Chapter 272: The Sealed Path

They stepped into the ancient structure, the air inside instantly shifting. It was cooler, heavier, carrying a faint scent of ozone and dust that hadn’t been disturbed in centuries. The walls were lined with faded carvings, strange geometric patterns interwoven with what looked like threads of fate twisting around serpentine figures.

Adam’s crimson eyes glowed faintly as he scanned the interior. "This place feels... alive."

Lilith ran her fingers along the wall, silver threads from her gown reacting to the carvings. "There’s residual mana here. It’s reacting to our presence."

Isolde stayed near the entrance, her blood aura subtly swirling. "This isn’t just ruins. It’s a monument... or a cage."

Ignis bounced on her heels, flames flickering excitedly along her shoulders. "Ooh, look at that! There’s glowing stuff on the floor!"

As they moved deeper into the main chamber, a low mechanical hum echoed through the stone. Without warning, the massive stone doors behind them slammed shut with a deafening thud. Dust rained from the ceiling.

They were sealed inside.

"What—?!" Isolde spun around, crimson blades already forming in her hands.

Adam immediately tested the door with his Telekinetic Command, but it didn’t budge. A faint barrier of golden threads shimmered across the surface. "Locked. And reinforced by some kind of ancient formation."

Ignis stared at the closed entrance for two full seconds before exploding.

"Those stupid eyeball rocks! What the hell?! They herded us in here like sheep to the slaughter! Do they want us to die?! Huh?! Is this their idea of a joke?! ’Oh look, fresh meat walked into the murder building, let’s trap them~’" She waved her arms wildly, flames bursting out in dramatic puffs. "I should’ve burned them all when I had the chance! Greedy rock bastards!"

Adam couldn’t help the small smirk that tugged at his lips. "Easy, Ignis. They probably didn’t build this place. They were just guarding it... or avoiding it."

Lilith chuckled softly, clearly amused. "How charming. Our little dragon is throwing a tantrum."

"I’m not throwing a tantrum! I’m being angry!" Ignis huffed, crossing her arms and puffing out her chest. "They tricked me! That’s a crime punishable by dragon fire!"

Isolde pinched the bridge of her nose. "Focus. We’re trapped."

Before anyone could reply, the floor of the chamber began to glow. Four separate pathways lit up, each leading into a dark corridor. Above each entrance, ancient runes shimmered into existence, forming glowing symbols:

>>>Path of Endurance<<<

>>>Path of Dominion<<<

>>>Path of Reflection<<<

>>>Path of Devouring<<<

A deep, genderless voice suddenly resonated throughout the chamber, ancient and echoing:

"Welcome, seekers of the Loom. Four trials await. Only by completing the paths may the Loom of Fate be awakened. One may walk alone... or all may walk together. Choose wisely. Failure invites eternity within these walls."

The voice faded, leaving only silence.

Adam narrowed his eyes, studying the four paths. "Trials... Just as I suspected. This place really is the Loom of Fate."

Lilith’s lips curved into a dangerous smile. "How exciting. It wants us to prove ourselves."

Isolde glanced at Adam, her expression serious. "What do you want to do? Split up... or stay together?"

Adam crossed his arms, his crimson eyes scanning each pathway one by one. Before he could speak, Ignis stepped forward dramatically, flames flickering wildly around her horns.

"Split up?! Are you kidding me?!" She pointed an accusing finger at the paths. "No way! Those creepy rock monsters already tricked us once. If we split up, they’re probably gonna pick us off one by one! I’m not letting Adam go anywhere without me!"

Lilith let out a soft, silky laugh, stepping closer to Adam until her shoulder brushed against his. Her silver threads gently coiled around his wrist in a possessive manner.

"How bold of you, Ignis," she purred. "But you’re not the only one who wants to stay close to him. Some of us prefer... more refined methods of protection." Her gaze slid toward Ignis with playful challenge, then softened as she looked at Adam. "Though I must admit, the idea of you wandering off alone doesn’t sit well with me either."

Adam raised an eyebrow, glancing down at the threads wrapped around his arm. "Lilith."

"What?" She smiled innocently, though her eyes gleamed with clear satisfaction. "I’m simply stating facts. We work better together."

Isolde stood a little apart from the group, her pale fingers fidgeting with the edge of her cloak.

"I... agree with staying together," she said. "This place feels far too dangerous to split our strength. Besides..." She hesitated, then added softly, "I’ve already led people into danger once before. I won’t make that mistake again by suggesting we separate."

Adam turned toward her, his expression softening just a fraction. He stepped closer and placed a hand on her shoulder, the touch surprisingly gentle despite his strength.

"Isolde, that wasn’t your fault so don’t think too much about it."

Isolde looked up at him, her crimson eyes meeting his.

"I know that... but it doesn’t stop the feeling." A small, hesitant smile touched her lips. "Thank you, Adam. For saying it anyway."

Ignis suddenly puffed her cheeks, marching over and inserting herself between them. "Hey! No fair! I want comforting shoulder touches too!" She grabbed Adam’s other arm and hugged it tightly, pressing her face against his shoulder with a dramatic sigh. "See? This is why we stay together. Group hugs are more efficient!"

Lilith’s eyes narrowed in amusement, though a hint of jealousy flickered through. "You really are like an overgrown puppy sometimes, Ignis."

"Better than being a scheming spider queen!" Ignis shot back cheerfully.

Adam let out a low chuckle, the sound rumbling in his chest. He didn’t shake either of them off. "Enough. We’re staying together. Splitting up in an unknown trial system is too risky, especially with Alice still needing us to find the Abyssal Bloom. We tackle each path as a group."

"Besides," he added with a faint smirk, "I’d rather keep all of you where I can see you. Less chance of anyone doing something reckless."

Ignis grinned widely. "That’s basically calling me out, isn’t it?"

"You said it, not me."

Lilith leaned in closer to Adam’s ear, whispering teasingly, "And what about when we’re alone later? Will you still want all of us in sight then?"

Adam’s tail flicked once in mild exasperation, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward.

Isolde cleared her throat, a faint blush coloring her pale cheeks as she looked away. "Can we focus on the deadly ancient trials first, please?"

Adam nodded toward the paths. "Path of Dominion looks like it fits our strengths best. We start there. Everyone ready?"
