Chapter 76: THE CLOCK’S TICKING

Abigail

Finnegan shoved off me like I was acid, turning away from the door to hide his raging cock.

My entire body screamed in protest as I heard the sound of his zipper being yanked up just as the doctor strutted in.

"Sorry to keep you waiting- oh, you’re up already?"

My face burned as the doctor moved closer, placing a palm over my forehead, taking my temperature. I was off the bed in under a second, swatting his hand away from me with a nervous laugh.

God, I probably looked guilty as fuck. I had my hand down my boss’s pants thirty seconds ago.

"How are we feeling?" Dr Hale asked pleasantly.

Horny and incredibly stupid, right now. What happened to the whole plan of staying away from him?

"Much better," I said. "Thank you."

He snapped on a glove and reached for the blood pressure cuff. "Take a seat, miss. I’m not letting you leave this place unless I’m sure you’re fine,"

Wonderful, he was just as bossy as Wolfe. I glanced over Dr Hale’s shoulders at him. He stood at the window with his hands in his pockets and his back to the room.

The blood pressure cuff tightened around my arm, squeezing. I tried to focus more on the squeezing instead of the trails of Finnegan’s precum on my fingers.

"Slightly elevated," Dr. Hale noted, reading the numbers on the blood pressure machine.

"It’s just hospitals," My lips pulled in a shaky smile.

"Mm." He clicked his penlight and leaned in, flashing the light in my eyes.

"Okay, okay, this has gone on long enough," I groaned, rising off the bed quickly. "Seriously, Doc, I’m fine."

"Do not listen to her, Hale," He grumbled from where he stood, finally facing us. My eyes fell straight to his pants, and my cheeks burned even hotter.

"She is looking very flushed, too. She went rather quickly from being pale to blood cells flooding her skin." Dr. Hale straightened, making a note on his tablet. "I’d like to run a few tests. Rule out anything cardiac, given the duration of the fainting spell- "

"I’m fine." I smiled at him warmly. "Genuinely. I have a condition called being-in-a-hospital-. It’s very well documented; the only known treatment is leaving."

Dr. Hale gave a hearty laugh.

"The moment I’m out of this building, my blood pressure will drop, trust me," I strutted towards the chair where my bag and tablet lay discarded. "I promise to drink water and eat something green. Is Mr. Wolfe done with his checkup?"

Dr Hale arched a brow at Finnegan, who narrowed his green eyes at me, before tipping his head in a stiff nod. In five minutes, we were out of the god-forsaken place. Wolfe and I said nothing to each other as he sprinted ahead of me to the car while I trailed behind him. When I reached for the front passenger seat, he pressed his lips in a firm line and slid into the backseat.

The silence between us was so aggressively thick, I could almost taste it. Just like how close I had been to begging him to fuck me.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived at the drop off in his private dock. James killed the car engine, getting out to open the door to the backseat. My hand shot to the door, ready to open when he spoke.

"I’ll handle the seminar at Denver, Miss Kellerman," His voice was back to that cold monotone. "Go home and rest."

"I’m fine, sir- "

"It’s not a request. Get some rest. James, get her home," He stepped out. James slammed the door closed.

I sat in the back of the car and watched him cross toward the terminal, tall and gorgeous without even a single glance back. The man who had groaned my name against my throat was gone.

**

"Miss Kellerman, the boss would not be happy with this," James sighed as he pulled up before the building. "He said to drive home,"

"What the boss doesn’t know won’t kill him," I chuckled, winking at James. "I’m fine. He’s just being paranoid."

"The boss doesn’t get paranoid for no reason."

"Yeah, sure, sure," I waved at him, sliding out of the car. "I have to pick up my car anyway,"

That and I had to find a way to log in to Alicia’s computer. I had already asked Annette to dig up anything she could find about her. I had to know why she was after me and proof on her working for Carlton.

The car park was quiet. I was halfway across it, running through the Alicia problem in my head, when I saw them.

My least favorite blonde bitch was standing beside a black Mercedes, and my fish-lipped ex was leaning against the hood, his face scrunched up. Alicia’s hands flailed in the air. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but with the agitated looks on both their faces, they were arguing.

I stopped in my tracks. Interesting. Drake had gotten a gig as one of Wolfe’s models after Alicia got a job here. After.

Hadn’t he bragged that he had applied to be a model here because of me? Was he in on this whole thing with Alicia and Carlton Gayle?

"Abby!" Oh, shoot, the fly-witted fool had noticed me.

He was already crossing toward me, "Perfect timing, I need a meeting with Mr Wolfe."

"And I’d like a meeting with God. Funny how that works, asshole. We don’t always get what we want, do we?"

"I’m being serious," He hissed. "I just need five minutes with him, come on. Aren’t you like the one that manages his time and shit?"

"I don’t have to do anything for you, especially you of all people," I replied, tossing my hair over my shoulders while Alicia scooted closer.

"Really?" Drake hissed, grabbing my arm, his fingers digging into my skin.

"Get your hands off me- "

"Shhh, shhh," He hushed, pressing a finger to his lips. "Keep making a ruckus, and everyone knows exactly how you spend your weekends."

"You can’t seriously think you can blackmail me with that," I spat, hating the way my stomach dropped.

"And why not?" Alicia hissed, folding her arms as she came up beside Drake. "I can only imagine what the boss would do when he hears from two different people that his EA is a shameless slut,"

And I could only imagine what he would do to you when he finds out you’re a mole for Carlton freaking Gayle.

I wrenched my arm out of Drake’s grip. There was no use tipping Alicia off that I was on to her.

"Here’s what happens." The piece of shit next to her spat. "You fix me a meeting with Me Wolfe. whatever it takes and however you have to do it."

"Or what, Drake?"

Alicia stepped closer, dropping her voice. "Or we tell everyone your dirty little secret, bitch. Every detail."

"Go ahead," I shrugged. "I’ve been doing my duties excellently and for the interest of the Corporation. Who I fuck, or where I go outside office hours isn’t my Boss’ business. We both know he won’t fire me."

That stupid grin wormed it’s way back on her face. "Oh yes, he won’t fire you. Not at first at least. I only wonder what would happen when everyone starts to whisper, first our co workers, then his business partners, then the press, oh, it’s going to be a nightmare. Everyone knows, especially me as Head of PR, how much Finnegan Wolfe protects his reputation. He may not want to fire you..."

She paused, tsking, her head swaying from side to side. "But he could persuaded to."

"You have two days, Abby love," Drake hissed, swiping a hand through his hair like this was a flipping movie. "The clock is running."
