The Substitute Ex-Wife: Seeking a Divorce
Chapter 72: Mentor’s Recommendation
On this side, Anita headed for her mentor’s office first after getting out of Owen’s car.
"I’m here, mentor." Anita walked to the door of her mentor’s office and found that the door was open, so she knocked and walked in.
"Anita, you’re here. Wait for me for a moment," the mentor said while glancing at Anita.
Seeing that her mentor was still busy, Anita found a spot to wait for him.
"Okay, Anita, come here." The mentor finally put down the thing in his hand and waved at Anita.
"Look at this experiment. I’m working on a new experiment with the school. I’ll cooperate with Columbia University. Are you interested in joining?" the mentor said to Anita.
"Mentor... I think I’m not experienced enough." Anita didn’t expect her mentor to want her to join this project. To be honest, she was really tempted. She had heard from several seniors in the same group last month.
However, when she heard that they had been rejected when they went to register for the selection, she gave up. After all, they had several years more experience than her. If they were not chosen, the possibility of her being chosen was even lower.
"Anita, to be honest, you’re really not very experienced. When I recommended you for the project, many professors said that, but do you know why I still recommended you?" The mentor said as he reached out and took off the glasses on his nose.
Anita quickly reached out and took her mentor’s glasses before putting them aside. Then, she asked, "Mentor, I don’t know why. Is it because I’m the only female student in your group?"
"No, it’s because you’re very intelligent and like me back then. Experience can be accumulated, but if you miss this research opportunity, it’ll be gone," the mentor said with a smile.
"But, mentor, do you really think I can do it? I’m not very confident," Anita said to her mentor.
"Anita, where did your drive to get me to be your mentor during the graduate entrance examination go? Don’t worry and just do it. I believe in you." The mentor stood up and patted Anita’s shoulder.
"Mentor... I..." Anita was still hesitating.
"I’ll go to class first. You can consider it yourself. Give me an answer when I get back." The mentor didn’t say anything else and picked up the book on the table and walked out.
As soon as the mentor left the office door, Anita sat on the stool. To be honest, she was conflicted too. She didn’t know what to choose. She wanted to join this project, but she was really afraid that she wouldn’t do well.
If she delayed the progress of the project, it would be embarrassing not only for herself, but for the mentor who had recommended her. The more she thought about it, the more conflicted she became. She took out her phone to call Owen and ask for his advice.
The phone rang a few times before it was picked up. "Hello, is this Miss Anita? I’m Bruce."
"Uh... Bruce, is Owen here?" Anita, surprised that it wasn’t Owen who picked up the phone, said.
"Are you looking for the CEO? He’s in a meeting with the project manager of Fang Yuan Technology. If you have anything to tell me, I’ll help you relay it later," Bruce said.
"I’m fine. Let’s talk about it after Owen’s meeting," Anita said and hung up.
After hanging up, Anita thought about many things. This matter was about her hobbies and studies, and it might even affect her future employment. At this time, she could only rely on herself.
Even if it was Owen who had just picked up the phone, he might have suggested she make the decision, because she would have to bear the consequences, whether good or bad.
Her mentor had returned with a desk after class. Seeing that Anita was still in a daze, he asked, "Anita, have you thought about it?"
"Mentor, you’re back." Anita came back to her senses and hurriedly stood up.
"Well, tell me the results," the mentor said sternly while looking at Anita.
Anita swallowed hard and finally said, "I’m willing to join you. I’m really grateful for this opportunity. I’ll definitely do my best."
"Yes, I believe you, but the process is very tough. And maybe this experiment won’t get any good results in the end. You have to be prepared to face these unknown results." The mentor didn’t smile when he saw that Anita had agreed but continued to speak sternly.
Anita had just thought of what her mentor said. "Mentor, don’t worry. The graduate entrance examination is so difficult. I’ll definitely persist in this experiment."
"Okay, that’s good. Go back. I’ll tell you the result in a few days," the mentor finally smiled and said.
