Chapter 37: 37. The strange Kaileon

Jeny had just sent a magic bird to deliver a message to the crown prince. She would continue to send messages every day. Jeny’s task was to find out about Kaileon and report on Angeline’s condition to the crown prince.

Just last night, Jeny was at that place—the pavilion behind the Duke’s castle—and she discovered many shocking things there.

First, Angeline had made a full recovery, and she learned the reason why Angeline had been so sickly and physically weak all this time. It turned out that it was all the doing of Princess Anabelle, with Akelos’s help.

It wasn’t that Jeny and the crown prince didn’t know about it—they did—but they hadn’t yet found solid evidence. However, Kaileon, who had just met Angeline, had already sensed something odd about the medicine Angeline took every day.

Upon learning this, Jeny asked the crown prince to investigate the medicine.

Second, Jeny was extremely surprised to learn from Angeline that Kaileon had actually awakened his powers, one of which was healing magic. But that wasn’t Kaileon’s only power—he had many more.

Third, and most importantly... life in the pavilion was incredibly prosperous. Everything was available there, because Kaileon could get anything at prices lower than market rates.

For example, the cute cleaning cat robot that the crown prince had been eyeing all this time—it turned out Kaileon had one too. Kaileon even said that if Jeny wanted to buy one, she could just buy it from him for twenty large gold coins. That was double the price Kaileon usually charged, but to Jeny, it was still an incredibly low price.

Not only that, but Kaileon could also get beautiful clothes made of soft, comfortable, and cool fabric at equally low prices.

Kaileon himself owned a large store where he sold all of these items, and this morning, Jeny and Angeline were going to follow Kaileon to visit the store.

There was a special event that day: Kaileon was going to demonstrate how to cook using the utensils, ingredients, and spices he sold to the locals there.

One fact that astonished Jeny was that it turned out Kaileon was the one who taught the maids at the pavilion how to cook.

Oh, there were certainly plenty of surprises for Jeny, even though she had only just arrived there.

One thing Jeny knew for sure was that she couldn’t let her guard down. She had to keep a close eye on Kaileon, because everything she’d heard about him through rumors—and the reality she was seeing with her own eyes—was too different. Even the reality before her eyes felt completely unreal—too incredible to be true.

But on the other hand, Jeny began to understand why the Duchess disliked Kaileon and often spread strange rumors about him.

"So magic to fertilize the soil really exists, huh? Is that why these vegetables are so lush?"

Jeny peered out the window; she saw Kaileon with Lily and Jean. At that moment, Jean was demonstrating how he planted the crops.

Kaileon looked enthusiastic as he watched Jean use his magic to fertilize the soil.

"Actually, the soil here is already fertile; I’m just loosening it up a bit. It’s very easy as long as you have earth element magic," said Jean.

"Oh, is that how it’s done, Jean?"

"Wow! You’re a quick learner, young master!"

Lily and Jean were surprised that Kaileon could perfectly mimic what Jean had just done. So was Jeny, who was peeking through her bedroom window.

"Young Master Kaileon—how can he be that amazing? But why are the rumors about him so terrible?" muttered Jeny, confused by what she was experiencing there.

Up until now, the rumors about Kaileon had been terrible. They said he was ugly, stupid, couldn’t read or write, was rude, and had bad manners.

But the reality was completely different.

Jeny stepped out of her room and headed to the kitchen to help prepare breakfast.

However, all the food was already ready; in fact, Peoni, along with Jo and several other maids, were already baking cakes.

Peoni, seeing Jeny arrive, immediately turned to her and greeted her.

"Good morning, head maid! We’re almost done cooking; we’ll be eating together soon."

Jeny furrowed her brow. "Do you mean the young master and the princess will eat first, and then we’ll eat together?" Jeny asked.

Peoni was confused by this, then she replied.

"No, we’ve always eaten together. It’s just not in the same place—the young master and the princess eat in the main dining hall, while the rest of us eat in the kitchen. We also eat the same food."

"Has the young master been letting you eat the same food as him all this time?" asked one of the royal maids.

Peoni nodded, "Of course. Even when the young master wants to teach us a recipe, he’ll cook for us while teaching us. I really love learning to cook from the young master because he’s so creative and always comes up with new ways to cook. Oh, by the way, I’m also going to watch the young master demonstrate how to cook in front of the store. You guys can come along and learn too—it’s so much fun watching the young master cook; he’s really amazing!"

At first, Jeny and the other royal maids thought Peoni was just exaggerating about Kaileon. They figured Peoni’s cooking was delicious simply because she was so talented.

But they quickly agreed with Peoni as soon as they saw how Kaileon cooked and taught the local residents.

It was midday.

The supermarket employees, Raka and Arga, had set up a large tent to shelter everyone from the scorching heat.

Kaileon used the same method as during the hunt—recording with a magic recorder and broadcasting it live on a large screen so that all the residents could see clearly.

The event successfully drew a crowd; everyone was eager to watch.

Kai simply taught them how to stir-fry meat and vegetables together, using simple seasonings. The seasonings Kai used were just coarsely chopped red onions and garlic, a little ground pepper, oyster sauce, and mushroom broth powder. He intentionally kept the dish as simple as possible so the residents could follow along.

Once the dish was ready, Kai asked all his maids to hand out samples to the crowd in small paper containers.

Meanwhile, store employees like Daisy and Arga were ready to sell a package of cooking ingredients for just five small bronze coins. Each package came complete with vegetables, meat, and seasonings.

Residents who saw the low price didn’t just buy one package—they bought two or three.

As a result, all the prepared packages sold out in less than an hour.

The royal maids were amazed by the way Kaileon sold his products.

Those who ran out could still buy the same ingredients—even if not in a package—for just one small bronze coin more.

The nobles who had deliberately stopped by to watch were also amazed by what they saw. So there was a marketing trick like that.

Before lunchtime, some of the products in the supermarket had already sold out. So, Kai asked the staff to close the store until lunchtime was over.

During the break, Kai cooked a meal for them using the remaining ingredients. Though called "leftovers," they were actually still fit for sale. It’s just that Kai couldn’t serve them subpar ingredients.

With all those ingredients, Kai made curry served with rice. Of course, Kai didn’t cook alone—Daisy and Peoni insisted on helping him.

While having lunch together on the second floor, Kai also discussed the supermarket’s progress.

Rose mentioned that their store was bustling with customers every day, and many nobles were even coming in. Yesterday, when Jessica and her friends visited, they reserved the second floor and spent a lot of money on pastries and drinks.

After Rose, Raka reported that some commoner adventurers were willing to collaborate after learning that their pay would be much higher than what they’d earn at the guild. So these adventurers would go hunting for meat to resell. Raka had also taught them all how to properly butcher their game to ensure the meat remained high-quality. Adventurers who didn’t know how were required to bring in their game while it was still alive.

"Good work, Raka. This way, we can reduce the number of unemployed adventurers, and we also get meat without having to hunt directly. Well then, let’s wrap up our discussion here. Since all of you have done such a great job, I’m proud of you," said Kaileon.

Jeny, who kept watching Kaileon, was growing increasingly surprised. It turned out Kaileon could be a good leader. He was even thinking about the fate of the adventurers who couldn’t find work.

The woman thought nothing could surprise her anymore—until Kai spoke again.

"After this, I’m going to visit the orphanage, since I’m now in charge of it, and Jean and Woni will work there to take over supervising it for me. I think Jean and Woni are already there. If you guys want to go back to the pavilion, I—"

"I’m coming too, Kaileon! You said the orphanage is being renovated, right?" Angeline replied enthusiastically.

"That’s right. Alright, if you’re coming, what about the other maids?" Kai asked.

"I’m coming too," Jeny replied confidently.

She wanted to know if Kaileon was really in charge of the orphanage.
