By the time she made it home that night, Liwu had finished reading half of the novel. She had made dozens of notes which she intended to share with the rest of the team the following day. It was round 9:00 pm, when she pulled into the driveway. She expected calm and silence, but instead, a glass flew out of the window, smashing into the side mirror of her car.

She stepped on the brakes and stopped the car immediately. Setting her pace to a run, she dashed into the main house, to the living room.

It looked like a battlefield. Vases shattered, cushions torn, a lamp dangling from a cord like a hanged criminal. Glass all around. Marbles from a decorative glass vase had been spilled all over the floor. In the center of the destruction stood Manman, a woman Liwu had not seen in a while.

Restrained by the silence system, she was quiet, but her face was flushed, her eyes wild. Though her system stopped her speaking, it did not stop her from enacting violence on expensive vases, televisions, a painting and two maids who had scratch marks on their arms and necks.

Majesty was back, and the cat was watching the drama from a window sill, licking a bone, like a dog. Madam Xu, Mr. Shen, Weijun and Weifeng were standing frozen. Weifeng looked pale. Madam Xu had her hands on the pearls around her neck.

As usual, when Manman was in the midst of a tantrum, Weifeng was uselessly torn between affection and terror.

Liwu sighed. "Really? Do I have to do everything myself? Is everyone in this family useless? I leave for work and come back to a circus!"

Without hesitation, Liwu whipped out her unlucky handcuffs--the ones that made criminals confess all their crimes. She strode across the room, dodging a flying bronze, ancient candlestick. She kicked Manman to the ground, and snapped the cuffed onto her wrists with exquisite precision.

Manman struggling, screaming, but no sound came out of her mouth. She had already used up her one sentence for the day. Her request had been to visit Madam Xu.

Liwu looked at her brother-in-law. "Why are you two here?"

"I had the same question." Madam Xu said, frustrated.

Weifeng had moved to the Lotus quarters district with Manman, hoping she would calm down and become more sensible, but so far, it did not seem to be working. Barely an hour into the visit, she had started throwing a tantrum, smashing everything within sight without a care.

"This is my home, why can’t I visit?" Weifeng replied defensively. "What are you doing to my girlfriend?"

Manman suddenly sat up, and sunk her teeth into Liwu’s leg.

Liwu looked down and unleashed her baton. "Be a good dog, and let go. Your bite doesn’t even hurt. I felt more pain from the bite of a toddler. You are pathetic."

The family gasped.

Manman let go, and opened her mouth wide. Tears slid from her eyes, her legs flailed. She was like a toddler in the midst of a tantrum.

Weifeng rushed to his girlfriend, his sandals crushing bits of glass and scattered flowers. "Liwu, take these handcuffs off Manman right now."

Liwu ignored him. She touched her watch and dialed the precinct. "This is detective Tai Liwu, I am calling to report a domestic disturbance. One suspect restrained. Send a unit to pick her up."

Everyone gasped. Even Majesty.

Madam Xu rushed to Liwu and whispered, "Can you do that? She is kind of family."

Liwu yawned and responded casually. "This is my husband’s house. Everything she has smashed, I have a share. This is a crime, and I am handling it like one."

Manman thrashed and suddenly rose with Weifeng’s help. She lunged at Liwu, but Weifeng caught her in time. But, he was not quick enough to stop Liwu from kicking Manman away, sending both of them flying.

Servants and guards rushed to the two while Liwu did the most shocking thing of all: she sat down, opened a novel and began to read. "Someone get me tea, and nobody should clean up until the police is done with the crime scene."

Everyone stared at her in horror.

Weijun asked the question that was on all of their minds. "You are just going to...read?"

Liwu flipped a page. "What else should I do? The criminal is cuffed. The police are on their way. If I waste energy yelling, I will not have time to find more clues to this puzzling case Sleazy Han brought me."

Madam Xu wrung her hand. "But what will do if the press catches wind of this? The neighbors will notice police coming to the house of the mayor!"

Liwu smirked. "Let them. Better they gossip about her tantrum than your son’s billion yuan necklace. That scandal has not yet down down by the way. Miss silence over there is still refusing to give up the stupid necklace."

Weifeng marched over to her. "Uncuff her now."

Weijun pulled his brother back.

Manman, still restrained, managed to kick over another vase.

Liwu didn’t even glance up. "Break. Break everything, I will send the bill to your boyfriend. The less money he has for expensive necklaces, the better."

Manman threw herself on the floor. Weijun rushed to her side, because there was littered glass everywhere.

Liwu laughed. "You have lost your system given beauty, are you sure you can risk glass cutting your face?"

Manman froze.

The atmosphere thickened with tension. Weijun paced, muttering about how ’this was crazy’ and ’reputation.’ Madam Xu dabbed her forehead with a handkerchief, calculating the bill for all the vases that had been smashed. After Liwu moved out, she had replaced the fakes with genuine articles again. She had even added a pair which she recently acquired at an auction for 35 million yuan! Barely three days at home, and they were in pieces.

"Maybe my daughter-in-law is right to arrest her." she muttered under her breath. She could count up to 176 million yuan wasted on the floor. This included the painting which was valued at 90 million yuan.

Madam Xu groaned, eyes on the wasted landscape painting which had survived many dynasties and and a few robberies, before ending up in the possession of her family, only to end up ripped at the hands of a crazy woman!

This had to be the most expensive tantrum in history!
