The Triplets My Ex Never Knew About
Chapter 132: Estelle Lockwood Goes to Buy Couple’s Watches
It took Liam Sloan a couple of seconds to realize what he had just said, and his head started to spin.
"No, that’s not what I meant! Ha, Bro, just forget I said anything. Yeah, total nonsense."
To his surprise, Nathaniel looked at him intently, his voice hoarse. "This Ms. Seymour... does she really want a divorce?"
Liam Sloan didn’t understand why his brother was asking, but he was just relieved Nathaniel wasn’t dwelling on his earlier slip of the tongue.
"Of course she does. Her husband keeps saying he loves her, but as outsiders, we can’t see any love at all. Ms. Seymour is trying everything she can to get a divorce. Honestly, if it weren’t for the kids, she would’ve been long gone."
Nathaniel lowered his gaze, lost in thought.
After a long moment, he said in a raspy voice, "Help her. If the Draper family causes any trouble, tell them it was my idea."
The client, Ms. Seymour, had married into the Draper family—a prominent name in high society—which was why her divorce was so difficult. But with Nathaniel Sloan’s help, things would be different.
Liam Sloan fell silent.
’Wait, Bro, are you projecting?’
But he couldn’t say that out loud.
’Then again,’ he thought, ’Ms. Seymour’s situation isn’t exactly the same as my sister-in-law’s. Ms. Seymour’s husband genuinely fools around and sleeps with countless women, but my brother is completely devoted to his wife!’
Nathaniel seemed lost in his own world. As the study fell quiet, Liam Sloan cautiously broke the silence and changed the subject.
"By the way, Bro, how did you get that surveillance footage?"
Estelle Lockwood, who had been about to knock, heard this very question.
Nathaniel didn’t hide it from Liam. "I restored it. The surveillance footage was destroyed, but the underlying files were still there. It just took time to recover, which is why it was delayed by three days."
Liam went, "Oh, right. You do know how to do that sort of thing."
Estelle froze. ’Nathaniel restored it himself?’
’But Nathaniel told me someone gave it to him. He didn’t mention himself at all.’
’If Nathaniel went to all that trouble to restore the surveillance video, then maybe... what he said was true. He hadn’t been covering for Noelle Lockwood in this matter.’
Estelle recalled how she had given him the cold shoulder and stormed off after the press conference, and a blush of embarrassment crept onto her cheeks.
’It seems I misunderstood Nathaniel... So... what should I do now?’
"Sister-in-law?!" Liam heard a sound at the door and opened it, his eyes widening in surprise. "N-no, I mean, Miss Lockwood!"
Estelle got straight to the point. "That doll on Christian’s bed, where did you buy it?"
Nathaniel paused for two seconds. "Celestar Commercial Center."
"Oh." Having her answer, Estelle prepared to leave. But suddenly, Liam’s words replayed in her mind: ’Bro, so you were the one who restored the video!’
Estelle felt as if her feet were glued to the floor.
She remained silent for a long moment before clearing her throat, about to ask if Nathaniel needed anything she could pick up for him.
Before she could speak, she noticed Nathaniel’s wrist was bare.
Estelle’s mind raced. "Where’s your watch?"
The man lowered his gaze, his expression calm. "It broke."
Estelle’s eyes darted around as an idea popped into her head.
’Nathaniel’s watch is broken, so doesn’t that mean he needs a new one?’
’I can go to the mall and buy him a watch. That would be a good way to thank him!’
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, watching as Estelle’s expression shifted from hesitant and uncertain to a sudden, blooming smile. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
’What... just happened?’
’The one he usually wore was still in the closet. He had just grabbed a random one today, but Liam had pointed out it was part of a couple’s set.’
’Nathaniel then remembered that this particular watch had been sent over by Laura Jennings.’
’It wasn’t hard to guess whose watch it was meant to match.’
Even though he had only worn it once, Nathaniel didn’t want any further connection to Noelle Lockwood, so he’d had someone get rid of the watch.
True to her decisive nature, Estelle immediately headed out the door. Before Nathaniel could even react, Liam slammed his hand on the table. "Bro, this is great! This is a great sign!"
Nathaniel looked over. "What’s a great sign?"
"Did you see her smile just now? She smiled when she heard you got rid of the watch!"
Liam’s analysis was delivered with utmost confidence.
"She must have known it was a couple’s watch from Noelle Lockwood. When she found out you got rid of it, she was thrilled!"
"She just left, probably to buy you a watch. She might even buy a matching couple’s set!"
Liam declared with finality, "Bro, she’s totally into you!"
Nathaniel: "..."
Hearing ’she’s totally into you’ gave him a bad feeling.
’Besides, something about this feels... off. Is that really what happened?’
’But Liam’s logic... did seem to make a certain kind of sense.’
Liam decided to give his brother a push and made a call to someone at Celestar Center.
...
Estelle went straight to Celestar Commercial Center.
After buying the doll, she went to the men’s watch section, only to find that several of the more attractive models were out of stock.
The salesperson made a recommendation. "Miss, are you buying a watch for your significant other? In that case, you might want to look at this model. It’s a new couple’s set. The watch faces feature a ’sun, moon, mountains, and rivers’ design that’s very popular."
Estelle’s expression froze. ’A couple’s set?’
She shook her head. "I just need a single men’s watch."
"Ah, well..." The salesperson looked troubled.
A moment ago, their top manager had called and sent them a photo of Estelle.
He had instructed them that if this woman came in to buy a men’s watch, they were to insist that all individual men’s watches were sold out, and only the couple’s sets were available.
The salesperson said awkwardly, "Here’s the thing, Miss. We’re running a promotion on our couple’s watches right now. They’re the same price as a single men’s watch."
"A lot of people are buying the set—they gift the men’s watch and keep the women’s for themselves. As long as you don’t say anything, no one will know the difference."
For a moment, Estelle actually thought that made some sense.
She picked up the "Sun, Moon, Mountains, and Rivers" watch and looked at it for a moment, but still shook her head. "Never mind. It’s too obviously a matching set. I’ll pass."
The salesperson heard their manager’s desperate roar through their earpiece: "Sell it to her! Sell it to her! If Miss Lockwood buys it, you get a 200,000 bonus!"
The salesperson took a deep breath and smiled. "Miss, this watch actually has a hidden face. If you press right here..."
Estelle pressed her finger where indicated, and the face of the women’s watch instantly changed.
The salesperson smiled. "See? Now it doesn’t look like a couple’s watch at all. You can still gift the men’s watch as planned and keep the women’s for yourself, so nothing goes to waste."
"And not only is the couple’s set the price of a single men’s watch, but this ’Sun, Moon, Mountains, and Rivers’ model is also discounted by twenty... uh, no, eighty percent! Yes, eighty percent off."
A cold sweat broke out on the salesperson’s brow. ’Good lord, boss,’ they thought, ’how could you come up with this? A watch that originally costs tens of millions, first you cut the price in half, then you take another eighty percent off that? How is Miss Lockwood supposed to believe this is a legitimate deal?!’
However, Estelle simply raised an eyebrow and smiled faintly. "Let me have a listen to your earpiece."
