The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands
Chapter 270: No, It’s Your Father
Loras, carrying Drake, returned to the shore of the Triangle Sea as fast as he could.
When he burst into the tent with Drake, Evangeline was in the middle of nurturing the top-grade spiritual stones.
She heard the commotion and her eyes snapped open. Her pupils contracted as she saw the slender figure slumped over Loras’s back. "Drake?"
Loras placed him on the bed and took a few shallow breaths. He frowned and told Evangeline what had happened beneath the Triangle Sea, his voice grave. "I’m worried Thorne is going to stir up trouble down in the Triangle Abyss. There are enough Swarm Beastmen to completely overwhelm us."
If the Swarm Beastmen came out in full force, none of the Beastmen temporarily camped here would be able to escape.
Evangeline sat by the bed and fed Drake a potion to clear the poison. She carefully cleaned his wounds, cutting away the rotting flesh and applying a medicinal powder. Only after she had tended to everything did she say calmly, "I’m taking Genesis to the Triangle Abyss."
Loras looked worried. He gripped Evangeline’s wrist. "Will The Everwake...?"
That violent male who hated Evangeline to the bone... no one knew if he would show any regard for their past. Besides, the Swarm prided themselves on procreation. Since he had already decided to form a Contract with another female, why would he care about Genesis?
As long as The Everwake needed them, as long as he wanted them, he could have countless cubs. That was the way of the Swarm.
"Whether he does or not, he is still one of my Beast Husbands, and Genesis should meet his father. If he refuses to acknowledge him, so be it. I won’t force it. But things need a proper conclusion." Evangeline’s expression was placid.
’The Everwake never had any feelings for the original owner of this body, only killing intent. Their one-night stand was nothing more than a moment of passion. The fact that he was willing to leave Swarm guards to protect me afterward, instead of taking the chance to kill me, was already a sign of him softening.’
’The fact that I was able to conceive Genesis also means that the knot of resentment in The Everwake’s heart has loosened considerably.’
’I believe that as soon as Genesis appears before him, all the hatred in his heart will vanish completely.’
’So, as far as winning over The Everwake goes, I consider my mission a success. Since he wants to form a Contract with another female, I’ll naturally let him. As for Genesis, we’ll see who he wants to be with. I may not be a good mother, but I will respect my child’s wishes.’
Loras looked at Evangeline’s expression and knew her mind was made up. He nodded gently. "Alright. I’ll go with you."
Evangeline didn’t refuse. She gave Danton a few simple instructions, asking him to look after Drake and take care of Bunny. Then, holding Genesis, she set off for the Triangle Abyss with Loras.
The little one was wrapped in a furry cloak, his small hands clasped tightly around Evangeline’s slender neck. His perfectly sculpted face pressed affectionately against her cheek as he whispered, "Mother, where are we going? I already promised Sister we would go look for conches together today. Genesis wants to find the prettiest conch for Mother. Can we go back soon?"
The little one’s soft, sweet words could melt anyone’s heart.
Loras watched from the side, his violet eyes filled with tenderness.
Evangeline’s long lashes fluttered. "Mother is taking Genesis to find his father," she said softly. "Are you happy, Genesis?"
"Father?" Genesis tilted his head in confusion, then looked at Loras. "Is he a father like Father Loras, Father Thorne, and Father Danton? Genesis knows they are all Mother’s males!"
The little one spoke with conviction, his pretty face full of seriousness.
Evangeline’s lips curved. "No, he’s *your* father."
Genesis froze, his small body stiffening in Evangeline’s arms.
He suddenly looked up, his rainbow-colored eyes gazing nervously at Evangeline. "Like how Father Caden Albright is Sister’s father?" he whispered. "My own father? The one... the one who looks like me?"
Hearing this novel way of putting it, Evangeline couldn’t help but chuckle. "That’s right, Genesis. The father who looks just like you."
But the little one couldn’t smile. He bit his lip and suddenly hugged Evangeline’s neck tighter, his voice dropping low. "But... but Father Thorne said my father didn’t want me and Mother. Why are we going to find him?"
His voice was muffled and held the faint trace of a sob.
Genesis had always known that he didn’t look like any of Mother’s males. From the moment he was born, he was a cub without a father. Even though the other fathers were very good to him, he never dared to say that sometimes, he was really envious of Sister.
Sister’s father would take her into the woods, turn into a big fox, and teach her how to hunt. He would carry her to pick the sweetest fruits and would gently coax her to sleep. But he was not like her; he only had Mother.
But Mother belonged to many people, not just to him.
As Genesis thought about it, hot tears welled up in his eyes and fell onto Evangeline’s neck.
Her steps faltered slightly. Just as Loras was about to take Genesis from her, he heard the female’s gentle voice. "Then, Genesis, tell Mother, do you want to see your father? Do you want to live with him?"
Hearing this, Genesis hugged Evangeline’s neck even tighter. "If I have a father, does that mean Mother won’t want me anymore? No, no! Genesis only wants Mother! I don’t want anyone else! I don’t want a father—"
The little one was very sensitive. Perhaps sensing the implication of parting in Evangeline’s words, he began to cry his heart out.
Evangeline held Genesis quietly, letting him sob and cry.
Loras watched from the side, a bitter feeling in his heart.
After a while, Genesis cried himself out and gradually calmed down, though his small body still trembled with hitches.
Evangeline continued walking as she held him. "Mother will never abandon you, Genesis," she said softly. "But everyone should know where they come from. You have a clan. I’m taking you to meet your father. When the time comes, if you haven’t changed your mind, then Mother will take you away, and no one can stop us. How does that sound?"
Listening to his mother’s voice, Genesis nodded silently. The rainbow-colored butterfly markings on his cheek shimmered faintly.
’He really wanted to ask, "Can’t Genesis have both a mother and a father at the same time? Like Sister with her younger brother and sister?" But he didn’t dare ask. The small child already vaguely understood that this was a question he shouldn’t voice.’
With someone leading the way, their progress was naturally much faster.
「By dawn the next day」, Evangeline and Loras arrived at the cliff wall where the Goldeagle Clan had made their camp.
However, the place was completely empty. If not for a few golden feathers left in the caves, one would have thought no Goldeagle Beastman had ever been there.
"What happened?" Loras’s brows were tightly knit. After searching the area, he found no one.
Evangeline lifted her chin slightly. Loras nodded, then found the roots of some plants growing near the cliff wall and questioned them about what had happened since he left.
When he learned what he wanted to know, Loras’s expression turned grim. He snatched his hand back and said in a low, heavy voice, "Julian had the heavily injured Beastmen leave the Triangle Abyss. He went to the Hive with Thorne."
Today was the day The Everwake and Hecate were to form their Contract and become partners.
