The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 151: Everyone Loves Sanguinius
That still was not the end of it. The black presence turned into an endless maw, continuously devouring the blood-red waterfall before it and absorbing the pure power within to replenish itself.
It kept feeding until the scarlet being finally came charging after it with that massive battleaxe in hand. Only then did it abandon the infinite fountain of blood, grab the Grey Knight in one hand, and run toward the boundless reaches of the Warp.
"Don’t you ever come back!"
"And don’t let me see you again!"
"Otherwise, I’ll cut off your head myself!"
The scarlet being stared at the blood fountain that had been half eaten away, eyes wide. For a brief moment, the Lord of Blood, the Master of Skulls, suddenly understood that there was no point in continuing the chase. The thing he had been pursuing had no shame whatsoever. It feared him, dreaded him, and did not even dare face him head-on. A piece of trash like that was not worth wasting any more energy on.
"Finally stopped chasing me..."
Hearing the furious roar behind him, the black presence looked disdainful. Anybody could talk tough. So what? It didn’t do a damn thing.
"Dark god, put me down! You heretic, I will execute you in the Emperor’s name!"
The moment the black presence relaxed, the Grey Knight clenched in its hand began shouting in fury.
"Dark god?"
The black presence looked genuinely stunned. What nonsense was this? Him, a dark god? Could he possibly be one? He was the ruler of mankind, the glorious Emperor himself.
"Kid, have you lost your mind?"
The black presence tossed the Grey Knight to the ground and asked coldly.
"Dark god!!"
The Grey Knight’s eyes were full of hatred as he charged in and swung his blade at the black presence.
"Hm?!"
A trace of anger flashed through the black presence. He might have been mankind’s protector, but he was also mankind’s sovereign. How could he tolerate such provocation?
"Explain why you called me a dark god, or I’ll erase you right now."
With a casual wave of his hand, the black presence locked the Grey Knight in place.
"Urgh..."
The Grey Knight strained with all his might, trying to move, but in front of the black presence he was utterly powerless. The gap between them was a difference in dimension itself.
"If a dark god wants to kill me, then kill me! But the Emperor’s warriors will never surrender to heretics like you!"
The Grey Knight shouted at the top of his lungs, his gaze utterly resolute.
"Heretic my ass..."
The black presence seemed truly angry now. What enraged him was the fact that this was the first time anyone had ever called him a heretic. In the past, he had always been the one calling other people heretics.
Besides, the black presence had always thought of himself as mankind’s Emperor. He had never once imagined that anyone would call him the Fifth Chaos God.
Still burning with anger, the black presence reached out and pressed a hand toward the Grey Knight’s head.
"A child of the Emperor will never kneel!"
The Grey Knight roared, ready to prove his loyalty with the very last fragment of his will.
At the moment the black presence’s consciousness touched the Grey Knight’s, far away at the meeting point between the material universe and the Warp, a being that was dead yet could never die, alive yet could never truly live, stirred for once.
"Who are you?"
Inside an endless sacred palace, a figure draped in extravagant golden armor sat upon the Golden Throne, radiating boundless splendor. Holding a sword in hand, he pointed it toward the intruder who had entered his mental realm.
"Who am I? I’m merely one who came before."
The intruder sat upon a throne piled high with the bones of countless xenos, facing the man in golden armor from afar.
"You are already tainted."
The man seated upon the Golden Throne stared at the one on the throne of alien bones and spoke coldly.
"You’re not much better."
The one upon the throne of bones showed no anger at all. His expression remained perfectly calm, almost blank.
"Hmph..."
The man on the Golden Throne smiled, as if silently acknowledging the truth of those words.
To save humanity within this sea of chaos, one had to wield the power of chaos with a human body. Human flesh was frail by nature, and corruption was inevitable. But his soul had remained forever pure, forever unstained.
"Outsider, what is it you intend to do here?"
The being on the Golden Throne asked the one seated upon the xenos-bone throne why he had come to this world.
"Drive out the alien. Save mankind."
The answer he received was only eight simple words.
And yet within those eight words lay an immense flood of information, which poured straight into the mind of the one upon the Golden Throne.
He saw a universe beyond anything he had known, a universe in which mankind had nearly completed its domination of the cosmos and was already sharpening its blades to march on other universes beyond.
Communication between transcendent beings really was that simple.
"..."
"I am a failure. I lost. I was betrayed by the son I trusted most."
"But if it were you... what would happen?"
After understanding the existence before him, the one seated upon the throne of alien bones, a being wreathed in black power that seemed capable of devouring all things, the golden figure felt both doubt and anticipation rise within him.
"Take my place."
"Let me see just how far you can go."
The golden figure knew he could neither live nor truly die. He was nothing more than a conscious skeleton. He had already seen through the future, the past, and everything in between. But precisely because he had seen all things, he felt genuine anticipation now. The being before him did not exist anywhere within the futures he had foreseen. In this moment, the golden figure wanted to see whether this Emperor of mankind from another universe, this descendant of his, could do better than he had, whether he could shatter fate itself.
Because the golden being understood clearly that the person before him was a variable capable of breaking all destiny and every cycle.
He was also the only variable that could free the golden figure from his puppet-like fate.
The moment the shining golden figure finished speaking, the entire golden palace collapsed with a thunderous crash.
The Emperor’s decisions had always been decisive beyond compare. Once he had resolved to let the one before him take his place, he did not hesitate for even a moment before giving him the last of his strength.
In the Warp, within the domain of Chaos.
The Grey Knight suddenly came back to himself, his expression enormously complicated as he looked at the black presence before him.
"How about this?"
The body of the black presence suddenly began to change. Under the Grey Knight’s gaze, it transformed into a handsome man clad in golden armor.
"I received a revelation from the Emperor. The revelation said that you will lead mankind onto a brand-new path of hope. You will become... the new Emperor."
The Grey Knight still could not quite believe that the black presence before him was actually a great human ruler from another universe, but divine revelation was divine revelation. There was nothing more for him to say.
"Whether it’s really a path of hope is hard to say, but at the very least, things can’t get much worse than they already are, right?"
Dressed now in golden armor, the young man seemed to be joking with the Grey Knight standing before him.
"That is true..."
The Grey Knight sighed helplessly. In a universe without any hope at all, things could hardly get any worse.
"Will you be leaving the Warp and going to the material world?"
The Grey Knight asked the man in golden armor, a man who looked so much like the Emperor they revered.
"Of course."
"But before that, I still have something to do."
The man in golden armor nodded lightly. Naturally, he intended to go to the material world, just not yet.
"What do you intend to do?"
The Grey Knight still had no idea what this man in golden armor was planning.
"My idiot ’sons,’ some missing, some hopelessly confused, it’s time to go find every last one of them."
A teasing look appeared on the face of the man in golden armor as he continued deeper into Chaos.
"..."
The Grey Knight watched the golden figure moving ahead, sighed, and followed after him.
Jovian walked through the Warp in golden armor, and everything happening now had gone far beyond his expectations. That included the Emperor flat-out checking out. Jovian had never imagined that after understanding his intentions, the Emperor would directly entrust this world’s humanity to him and show the joy of someone finally freed from fate. It was almost as though the Emperor had already seen something beyond the limits of this universe, and that was why he had made such a choice. The thought left Jovian feeling oddly complicated.
"You, great new Emperor, where exactly are you going?"
The Grey Knight stayed by Jovian’s side, still asking what he intended to do.
"To get laid!"
Jovian answered with complete ease.
"What?!"
The Grey Knight’s eyes went wide. He clearly had not expected that answer.
"Don’t be so surprised."
"Look, my date’s here."
Jovian shook his head at the inexperienced Grey Knight beside him. A man was supposed to keep his emotions off his face. Clearly, this Grey Knight still had a lot to learn.
"My date..."
The Grey Knight was just about to ask something else when the sky itself seemed to rumble, and an incomparably beautiful woman appeared before Jovian.
"I never expected you’d accept my invitation."
The beautiful woman smiled at Jovian.
"Heh."
"When a woman as gorgeous as you invites me, how could I possibly refuse?"
Jovian only smiled back.
"Haha..."
"You really do know how to talk."
"Oh, and who is this? Interesting. He’s a hero too. I could reward my followers with him."
The beautiful woman smiled, enough to bring nations to ruin. Her finger lightly traced across Jovian’s chest as if teasing him, while she casually glanced at the Grey Knight beside him.
"Heh..."
After hearing her words, Jovian merely chuckled. He knew very well that this one had been eyeing Grey Knight for a while now. Too bad, because there was no way he was handing him over.
"You..."
The Grey Knight suppressed the anger boiling inside him. He knew perfectly well whose avatar this beautiful being was. He had every urge to seize his weapon and strike that "woman" down, but with Jovian standing there, he could not make a move.
"Don’t mind him. He has no sense of romance. We should just enjoy ourselves."
Jovian gently caressed the beautiful woman’s face, then waved a hand and raised a curtain of darkness around them.
"Wait farther off."
At the same time, Jovian’s voice sounded directly in the Grey Knight’s mind.
"Understood..."
The Grey Knight nodded and chose to obey the new Emperor’s command.
"Hahaha, you’re in such a hurry..."
At the same time, breathing and laughter began to drift out from within the dark curtain.
"Tch..."
The Grey Knight felt utterly miserable, and utterly helpless.
For the first time, he found himself wondering whether mankind was really going to be okay with an Emperor like this. The Imperium might actually be doomed.
"Hey, Knight, want to have some fun too? With the six of us~"
While the Grey Knight waited in grim silence, six beautiful women appeared around him like illusions, their impossibly gentle voices trying to corrupt his mind.
"..."
The Grey Knight remained silent. He closed his eyes and ignored the things around him. Some sights were better left unseen.
Boom!
Just as the Grey Knight kept enduring...
Enduring the urge to draw his blade and cut off the heads of every disgusting heretic around him, a massive explosion suddenly rang out.
The great new Emperor of mankind came sprinting into view, completely naked, his body radiating holy light, his huge dick swinging as he ran, one unconscious white-haired man slung over his shoulder.
And behind the new Emperor of mankind came a vast army of daemons of Slaanesh.
"Hm?!"
Even the Grey Knight rarely saw a host of Slaaneshi daemons on this scale. From that alone, he could tell exactly how furious Slaanesh was.
"Jovian, you actually stole my man?!"
The beautiful woman was gone. In his place stood a strikingly handsome man with immaculate features and long, elegant limbs, roaring furiously at the glowing naked figure ahead.
"Run!"
The great new Emperor of mankind was not a man who bothered with small details. He grabbed the dumbstruck Grey Knight and bolted deeper into the Warp.
"Great Em... Emperor!"
"May I ask who the man on your shoulder is?"
The Grey Knight looked at the man slung over the new Emperor’s shoulder. Something about that face felt strangely familiar.
"This?"
"This is Fulgrim, one of my idiot ’sons.’"
"Do you know the story of the Primarchs?"
Jovian glanced at the man he had knocked out with a single slap and then spoke to the Grey Knight at his side.
"Uh..."
With the vast store of knowledge in his mind, the Grey Knight instantly understood who the man on Jovian’s shoulder was.
"I understand. One of the great Emperor’s sons, one of the Primarchs."
"Is he... your favorite son?"
The Grey Knight nodded, though there were things he left unsaid. He knew that the man carried by the new Emperor was one of the sons who had once betrayed the Emperor. At first, he had intended to persuade the new Emperor to kill this disloyal son, but seeing how the new Emperor had snatched the Primarch away from a dark god, he could only swallow those words.
"No, he isn’t my favorite child."
"My favorite is Sanguinius."
Jovian shook his head. Sanguinius was still the one he liked best.
Everyone liked Sanguinius.
