The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 163: Is This Illegal?
On the Juxia, the aircraft carrier off Juxia City, one of America’s newest fighter jets slowly touched down.
A woman with long crimson hair and a full, alluring figure stepped out of the jet.
She removed her helmet, revealing a breathtaking face and a pair of eyes as sharp as drawn blades.
She was a beautiful flower, no question about it, but one with thorns, like a rose in full bloom.
That rose-like woman walked forward without pause and headed straight into the carrier’s control room.
Inside, a square-jawed middle-aged man with a buzz cut was looking up at an electronic screen. Playing on it was the footage of Jovian slapping around a street thug.
"I’m back..."
The beautiful woman walked to the man’s side and gave him a respectful salute.
"Mm."
The middle-aged man nodded first when he saw her.
"Welcome back..."
Then he handed the file in his hand to an aide, had the aide take it away, and pulled the thorny beauty over to stand beside him.
"What’s this?"
Standing at his side, the woman raised a brow as she watched the footage of Jovian backhanding the thug in red.
"You know the Light of the Sun?"
The middle-aged man looked at the thorny beauty and asked.
"I do. That alien."
She nodded. Of course she knew who Leona was.
"Two days ago, she detected a group of aliens beyond the galaxy, coming in hard. So she activated a batch of super soldiers here on Earth."
The middle-aged man began explaining what had happened.
"Super soldiers?"
The woman paused, then looked up at the screen again. She was already starting to guess part of it.
"Those aliens call themselves the Taotie. They serve the Styx Galaxy. They worship Karthus, which clashes with our beliefs. I suspect they have bad intentions toward Earth, so I’ve decided that you’ll be the one to gather these super soldiers and form a superhero squad that belongs to Earth, and to our country."
The man kept talking before the woman could think too far ahead.
"So the super soldier whose genes were activated is the one on the screen?"
"He did grow up pretty handsome, but he looks a little violent."
The woman tilted her chin slightly as she studied the Jovian on the screen who was slapping the thug around. Even with her very high standards, she had to admit the guy was ridiculously handsome. More than a super soldier, he looked like the lead in a big-budget action series, the kind of man with perfect features, bright energy, and a body that looked built for the camera.
"Uh, well..."
"The super soldier I’m talking about is the one getting slapped by that boy, and the other one standing next to him looking scared out of his mind..."
The middle-aged man said awkwardly.
"What the hell..."
"Earth’s supposed to rely on those two?"
The woman covered half her face at once. Never mind the terrified shut-in-looking guy, the one currently getting slapped around on the screen obviously looked like bad news. Was Earth really supposed to count on a loser and a thug for protection? At that point, she was starting to think Earth might already be doomed.
"Ahem..."
"That boy should also be a super soldier, and a very powerful one at that. Otherwise he couldn’t possibly suppress that thug in red."
The uniformed middle-aged man stared at the footage of the red-shirted thug being manhandled by Jovian and felt genuinely shocked. After all, that thug’s gene model was one of the three god-making projects, the Noxian War God.
That was a genetic engine that could truly create a god.
"You don’t know what his gene model is?"
The woman raised a brow after hearing that. It was the first time she had heard the man beside her speak so vaguely, like even he himself was unsure what gene model that handsome boy had. That was interesting. With that thought, her curiosity about the boy going wild on the screen grew just a little.
"Ahem. Anyway, I’m leaving them to you. If it’s you, I’m not worried."
The middle-aged man felt like he had lost face in front of his daughter, so he turned his head away and kept glancing upward, refusing to give the girl beside him, his own daughter, any chance to keep pressing the issue.
"Understood, all-knowing General Du Couteau."
The girl smiled when she saw his expression. He looked ridiculous enough that she deliberately put extra emphasis on all-knowing. Then she turned and strode out of the carrier’s control room with brisk, confident steps.
Leaving only the famous General Du Couteau standing there alone.
"Sigh..."
"Katarina really has grown up. She’s really grown up."
General Du Couteau sighed and kept muttering to himself.
Meanwhile...
At the Juxia City precinct, a sedan rolled to a stop.
The resolute, red-haired beauty named Katarina stepped out, along with a young man in a black suit wearing sunglasses.
"Try talking to him first. If that doesn’t work, leave it to me."
The man in sunglasses turned slightly and gave Katarina a few instructions.
"Okay..."
Katarina nodded. She really was not good at dealing with people.
With just a few short lines, the two of them divided the work. The man in sunglasses would handle the talking, and Katarina would handle being stunning.
Bang.
The two of them pushed open the station doors and walked straight in, heading right toward the hopeless young man who was still talking to a police officer.
"If somebody really wanted to press this, you know you could be looking at years for what you did?"
At that moment, the kind-hearted officer was in the middle of lecturing the hopeless young man.
"Huh? It can’t be that serious, right?"
The young man’s face changed instantly.
"Can’t be that serious? Heh..."
The officer gave a faint smile, using nothing but his expression to make the point sink in.
"Uh..."
Just as the young man’s nerves were getting worse and worse, the man in black and Katarina walked up beside him.
"You are?"
Then, under the young man’s anxious stare, the two of them showed their credentials to the officer.
"Oh, there you are."
The moment the officer saw the words National Security, he immediately started gathering up his files. Since people from higher up had arrived, this was no longer his problem.
"Garen?"
Katarina looked at the hopeless young man and asked.
"Yes."
Garen nodded, not even knowing what he had done wrong, looking nervous as hell.
"Come with us."
Katarina’s face stayed cold as she gave the order.
"Okay!"
Garen did not even think about it. He had just seen even the police officer treating these two with full respect, so following suit had to be the safe move.
"Where are the others?"
Katarina nodded, then looked around. When she did not see Jovian anywhere, she raised a brow.
"Who?"
Seeing her expression, Garen’s heart skipped.
"The one who was fighting."
Katarina clarified.
"Over there!"
Garen pointed toward the red-shirted old thug sitting off to one side with bandages around his neck and a dislocated jaw.
"Not the one who got beaten. The one who did the beating."
Katarina shook her head at the sight of the thug in red.
"Oh, oh! The officers were worried that big guy had violent tendencies, so they put him in a little room by himself to reflect."
Only then did Garen understand who they were looking for, and he quickly explained.
"Take us there."
After hearing him out, Katarina gave only those two short words.
"Okay!"
Garen nodded and, relying on memory, led Katarina and the man in the black suit and dark sunglasses, who looked like he had stepped out of The Matrix, through the station.
The precinct was not big to begin with, and it only took a minute before Garen brought them to a small room.
"I think it’s this one."
He pointed at the door in front of them.
"Mm."
Katarina nodded, then pushed lightly on the door. It was apparently unlocked, and it opened right away.
The moment the room opened, they saw Jovian hugging a pillow and sleeping soundly.
"Heh..."
Looking at the sleeping Jovian, Katarina could not help laughing in disbelief. Other people came to the station to reflect. This guy had apparently come here to catch up on sleep.
"Wake up!"
Katarina called out.
"Mmm..."
Jovian lowered the pillow, stood up, and stretched lazily.
"Jovian..."
"That’s a weird name. An American with a name like that?"
Katarina pulled up Jovian’s information on her phone, raised a brow, and asked.
"What, is that illegal? There are people named all kinds of crazy things. You can’t tell me having an unusual name is against the law."
After stretching, Jovian ran a hand through his hair and shot the question right back at her.
"Well... no, that’s not illegal."
Caught off guard by that answer, Katarina suddenly found that everything she had planned to say no longer worked.
"What time is it now?"
Before she could say anything more, Jovian immediately threw out another question.
"Uh, let me check."
Hearing the question, Katarina instinctively looked at the time.
"It’s 9:15 Northstar time..."
After checking, she answered.
"Oh. Then it’s time for me to be released."
Jovian nodded and walked right up to Katarina and the others.
"Excuse me."
He glanced at Katarina and Garen, who were blocking the doorway, and raised a brow.
"Oh. Right..."
Katarina and Garen instinctively stepped aside.
"Mm."
Jovian walked straight out through the gap they had made.
Leaving Garen and Katarina standing there in stunned silence, while the man in sunglasses covered his face and sighed.
"He... he just left like that?"
Garen felt like his brain was no longer working.
"Of course not. Go after him!"
Only after Garen said that did Katarina realize Jovian had already walked off. Anxiety immediately flashed across her face.
"I’ll handle it this time."
The man in sunglasses stopped Katarina. He had decided that this round, he would be the one to negotiate with Jovian. Otherwise Katarina, being inexperienced at this, would just get led around by the nose again.
"Fine."
Katarina nodded with obvious frustration and humiliation.
"Mhm..."
With his hands in his pockets, Jovian hummed a tune and casually headed for the station exit.
"Behave yourself."
As he passed by the thug in red, he even stopped to offer that reminder.
"Y, yes, sir! Don’t worry, boss!"
The thug spoke unclearly, like he had a mouthful of mashed tofu.
"Mm."
Jovian understood him just fine. He waved once and walked out of the precinct, stepping into the sunlight.
"Hah..."
He stood there under the sun, looking perfectly at ease, counting silently in his head.
Five, four, three, two, one...
"Hey, brother, can I have a word?"
Just as Jovian silently counted down to one, the precinct door opened behind him and the man in black with the sunglasses stepped out.
"What, you need something again?"
Jovian turned around and looked at the man, his eyes carrying a half-amused smile.
"Uh..."
The man in sunglasses froze a little under that look. He was not sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt as though Jovian had seen straight through him.
"Y, yeah. There is something."
He answered Jovian’s question.
"What is it?"
Jovian did not give him any chance to ramble. He asked directly what he wanted.
"Uh..."
"Well, actually..."
The man in sunglasses started giving the speech he had prepared in advance.
"Fifteen words. Finish it."
Jovian cut him off and said it like an order.
"The nation needs you to join the super soldier program."
Asked like that, the man in sunglasses reflexively straightened his back and answered at once.
"Address."
Jovian asked for the location where the super soldiers were gathering.
"The address is..."
The man in sunglasses pulled out his phone and brought up the location.
"Good. See you in a few days."
Jovian took the man’s phone, casually slipped it into his own pocket, and walked off into the street.
"..."
The man in sunglasses stared at Jovian’s back and said nothing for a long time.
Bang.
Just as he stood there in silence, the door opened behind him and Katarina and Garen came out.
"Let that thug Darius stay in the station for a few more days and cool off. Once they grind down that temper of his, then we can bring him out..."
Katarina walked up to the man in sunglasses and explained why she had not brought the thug in red with her.
"..."
The man in sunglasses stayed silent, clearly distracted.
"Hm? Where’s Jovian?"
Katarina looked at him, puzzled.
"He left. He also took my phone with him."
The man in sunglasses spoke with dry lips. He swore this was the worst collapse of his professional career he had ever experienced.
"He left?"
"You just watched him walk away?"
Katarina’s eyes went wide. She genuinely had no idea what this man had even been doing.
"What was I supposed to do, stop him by force? In broad daylight, is National Security supposed to brawl with an ordinary civilian right in the street?"
The man in sunglasses sounded helpless. It was not like he could really use force.
"Well..."
Katarina was left at a loss by that answer.
"It’s fine. It’s not all bad. Jovian said he’ll report to the base on his own."
The man in sunglasses tried to comfort her.
"You call that not all bad?"
"Report to the base on his own? Our base is an aircraft carrier out at sea. How exactly is he supposed to get there?"
Katarina looked at the man in sunglasses like she could not believe what she was hearing.
"That, I have no idea about..."
The man in sunglasses shrugged. That was way outside his field of expertise.
