The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 165: Drumline Again
"Let’s go."
Jovian grabbed Yan by the hand and headed out of Angel Capital Group Tower.
"Where are you taking me?"
Feeling the warmth of Jovian’s palm, Yan’s face flushed slightly. Her heart started pounding fast as her mind ran wild.
"I’m taking you to get changed."
"You’re not seriously planning to live on Earth dressed like that, are you? That plain dress looks like it came straight out of ancient Greece."
"I’m telling you, it’s outdated, sweetheart."
Jovian turned his head and gave Yan’s holy outfit a quick once-over. The dress was old-fashioned, while the crystal heels were bizarrely trendy. Whoever came up with that combination was a real genius.
Still, even if the outfit was dated, it somehow worked on Yan. With her looks and figure, she could make almost anything look good. If anything, it gave her a unique kind of charm.
"An Angel’s style never goes out of fashion."
"And no matter how you look at me, I have absolutely nothing to do with the word stupid."
After hearing Jovian’s comment, Yan’s brows drew together again.
"Hahaha..."
"You wandered onto Earth all by yourself, then I took you down without breaking a sweat, and you still want to say that’s not stupid?"
Jovian laughed loudly and pulled Yan through the boardroom doors.
"You..."
Yan felt completely stifled after hearing that. If she still had her divine power, someone like Jovian who dared insult Angels would have been reduced to ash by a single judgment strike.
"This..."
The female chairwoman of Angel Capital Group, who had been waiting outside the door the whole time, stared wide-eyed at Yan being dragged out by Jovian.
"What are you staring at?"
"Don’t tell me you still haven’t figured out what just happened."
"Hopeless."
Jovian looked at the chairwoman waiting outside and mocked her without hesitation.
"This..." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
The chairwoman felt anger rising in her chest, but with Yan standing right there, she did not dare show it.
"It’s exactly what it looks like. This Angel here has already agreed to become my guardian Angel."
"And not just that. That old broad Kayle has already agreed to bring the whole Angel civilization over to be my guardian Angels too."
"Huh. So that means your Angel Capital Group belongs to me now, doesn’t it?"
"Go get your faith, this beautiful Angel here, a few good outfits so she can catch up with modern style."
Jovian held Yan with one hand and stroked his chin with the other, his mind racing through the logic.
First, Yan was Kayle’s left wing. If anything happened to Kayle, Yan would step in to lead Angel civilization. That meant Yan’s will was basically Kayle’s will. If Yan had been brought over to be his guardian Angel, then Kayle and, by extension, all Angel civilization had effectively become his guardian Angels too. And since the chairwoman worshiped Angels, that was basically the same as worshiping him. And since Angel Capital Group belonged to the chairwoman, then this massively influential company was now basically his personal wallet.
Perfect.
"I see. My apologies. I had no idea you were someone favored by the Angels themselves."
The moment Jovian said that, the chairwoman seemed to achieve enlightenment. She bowed slightly to him and expressed her respect.
"That’s bullshit..."
Yan was so furious her chest rose and fell. If Jovian wanted to mouth off using her, that was one thing. What made it worse was that he had dragged Sacred Kayle into it too, as if the Queen of the Gods of the known universe meant absolutely nothing to him.
"See? Didn’t you hear your Angel cursing at you?"
"So hurry up and get her some good clothes."
Jovian took advantage of Yan’s anger and immediately turned it into another excuse to scold the chairwoman.
"Please calm down, Angel, I’ll go right away..."
The chairwoman instantly panicked.
"Don’t listen to his nonsense!"
Yan’s frown deepened.
"Why are you still standing there? Your faith is already getting mad."
Jovian kept stirring the pot like this was all a comedy show put on for his personal amusement.
"Yes, of course, right away..."
The chairwoman nodded again and again. In her eyes, every word and movement from Yan had already turned into the kind of thing a girlfriend says when she is completely in love and means the exact opposite of what she says.
The key point was that it was all reverse psychology.
When a girl in love says, "Oh, it’s too expensive, don’t buy it," what she really means is, I want it. I really want it. I want it so badly.
The chairwoman had lived long enough to understand these things. Once she figured it out, she did not hesitate and hurried off to find clothes for Yan.
"You people on Earth really do have complicated emotions..."
Even though Yan’s divine power had been sealed, her perception was still intact. She could sense the chairwoman’s tangled emotional fluctuations, and it left her genuinely impressed. Even after surveying so much of the universe, it was rare to find a species as psychologically complicated as humans.
"Human history is war, war, and more war. Death has followed your entire history. I suppose that’s why Karthus is interested in your species."
When Yan saw that Jovian had not answered, she kept talking.
"Heh..."
"You say that like the Angels’ history isn’t built on war too."
"The Heavenly Court era, the war between male Angels and female Angels. Then the female Angels won, and after that came the era of the Three Kings, and then the age of Sacred Kayle."
"So tell me, in the forty thousand years from the Heavenly Court era to now, have the Angels ever once put down their swords?"
"And if you haven’t, then why are you still talking about filling the world with justice and love?"
Jovian dismissed Yan’s words with obvious contempt.
"You..."
"But Kayle truly did bring justice and love to most of the known universe."
Yan would never allow anyone to question Sacred Kayle.
"Did Morgana get filled with love?"
"When you Angels finally finish dealing with Morgana, then come talk to me about your grand dream of filling the universe with love."
Jovian lifted a finger and gently pressed it against Yan’s lips.
Smack.
Yan’s pupils trembled. She slapped his hand away immediately.
"What about you? What ideals do you have?"
Yan looked at Jovian seriously and asked.
"Me?"
"I do whatever I want."
"Justice and evil?"
"In my eyes, there has never been any absolute justice or absolute evil. It’s all about the angle you’re standing at when you look at something."
"I’m not going to pretend I’m always right. A lot of what I do is outright monstrous."
"But I don’t care."
"As long as I’m enjoying myself, I don’t give a damn about the rest."
Jovian had never tried to paint himself as a good man. Good men got guns pointed at them. He was a bad man, and that was that.
"Your way of thinking is utterly depraved."
"I imagine you and Morgana would get along very well."
Yan gritted her teeth after hearing him.
"Morgana? No chance. Absolutely no chance."
The second Yan suggested he and Morgana might get along, Jovian laughed.
"I might actually be the person in this universe who gets along with Morgana the least. Most of what she says, I agree with. But there’s one thing I absolutely don’t."
Jovian shook his head. If he ever met Morgana, they would definitely fight. And right in front of her, he would kill every last one of her ugly Demons, one by one.
Yan raised a brow and looked him over from head to toe while considering his words.
"And what exactly is the one thing you don’t agree with?"
After thinking about it for a while and still not understanding him, Yan finally asked.
"Do you really need to ask? In this universe, there can only be one truly free person."
"That’s me, Jovian."
"As for everyone else..."
"Heh. Everyone else can go follow that justice order Kayle made up."
Jovian looked at Yan like she was an idiot.
"Why?"
Yan could not understand it. Jovian clearly looked down on the justice order, so why would he want everyone else to follow it?
"Hahahahaha..."
"Yan, you’re supposed to become a god someday."
"So how are you still this naive?"
"It’s exactly because everyone else follows the justice order that my depravity gets to be depravity."
"It’s because there’s a right side that I get to be the wrong side."
"If everybody in the universe followed a depraved order instead, then wouldn’t Kayle’s order become the wrong one?"
"In the beginning, there was never any idea in this world that was inherently wrong. The reason wrong became a word at all is because some ideas either violate natural law or threaten the interests of the majority."
Jovian laughed out loud. He found Yan’s innocence genuinely funny.
"You..."
After hearing him, Yan felt like her mind was twisting in knots. Something about what Jovian said felt like a sleight of hand, but she could not find the exact point where to argue back.
"The clothes are here!"
Just as Yan was about to keep going, the chairwoman came running back with the outfits.
"Put them on. We’re leaving, Yan."
Jovian looked at the clothes the chairwoman brought and spoke to Yan.
"Hmph."
Yan let out a cold snort, took the clothes, and walked back into the boardroom.
Click.
A few seconds later, she pushed the door back open and warned Jovian, "You’d better not peek."
"Heh. Ridiculous."
"I never peek."
Jovian crossed his arms with a righteous look on his face.
"You’d better not."
Yan shut the boardroom door again after saying that.
"I never peek. I look openly."
Jovian stared at the wooden door. He had always looked openly.
Five minutes later, Yan came out changed.
White thigh-highs. Shorts. An oversized hoodie. Blonde twin-tails.
The hoodie in particular was almost too big, hanging low enough to cover most of the shorts underneath and leaving all kinds of room for the imagination. As for the white thigh-highs, stopping just inches below the hem of the shorts and merging visually into Yan’s long straight legs, they were absolute eye magnets.
Jovian and Yan both turned to look at the chairwoman, who was breathing hard off to the side.
"Uh, I didn’t have time to go buy something new, so I grabbed a set from my granddaughter."
"But they’re all new. She hadn’t worn any of them yet. She buys too many clothes every time."
"I’ve told her over and over, but she never listens."
The chairwoman looked flustered as she explained herself in broken pieces.
"It’s fine. I actually like this style. I’ve never worn anything like it before."
Yan flicked one of her twin-tails and straightened her posture. Even dressed in something straight out of anime culture, she still carried herself with a queen’s presence.
"Not bad."
Jovian looked Yan up and down. In simple terms, when someone had the kind of natural gifts she did, they could wear anything.
"What exactly isn’t bad?"
After hearing Jovian, Yan seemed to forget the lesson she had just learned and started pushing again.
"Are you saying these perfect legs of mine aren’t bad?"
"Or this slim waist?"
"Or maybe this perfect curve of my hips?"
"So when you say not bad, what exactly are you looking at?"
Her eyes were openly challenging.
"Haha, you’re trying to provoke me?"
Jovian smiled. The smile looked pure as snow.
"Yan, have you ever heard of a marching drum?"
He walked right up to her and looked down at her from above.
"A marching drum?"
Jovian had already forced Yan back against the wall. With nowhere left to retreat, she leaned against it and a flash of white light passed through her eyes. In an instant, she pulled up a mountain of information.
"I know. One of Earth’s old folk drum traditions."
After figuring out what it was, Yan looked at Jovian and answered.
"Good. Then you know what I mean."
"What I mean is, you’d make a damn good marching drum."
Jovian smiled at her with a warm, kindly expression after hearing her answer.
"What?"
The moment Yan saw that gentle smile, a terrible feeling rose in her heart.
"Let’s go!"
Jovian hoisted Yan over his shoulder, smashed straight through the boardroom doors, and flew out through the enormous shattered window she had broken when she arrived.
Late that night...
Over Juxia City...
A police car rolled slowly down the road.
Inside the car, the beautiful young policewoman who had arrested Jovian and the others earlier still looked irritated.
"Darius is full of shit. Not one honest word out of his mouth. Superhero, my ass. Says he’s going to save the world? What a joke."
Sitting in the passenger seat, the young policewoman, Caitlyn, kept muttering under her breath.
"It’s okay, Caitlyn. I’ll protect you."
The older-looking male officer in the driver’s seat glanced at Caitlyn beside him and spoke up.
"Protect me? Do I look like I need your protection?"
Caitlyn’s expression sharpened. She had always been strong-willed. They were both cops. She did not need somebody else protecting her. Her job was to protect other people.
Boom!
Just as Caitlyn was speaking, a deafening explosion tore through the air by her ear.
The next second, a wave of heat hit them and flipped the car over.
"Cough, cough..."
What the hell just happened?
Caitlyn groggily opened her eyes. She kicked open the police car door with all her strength, crawled out, and looked toward the source of the blast.
What she saw left her frozen.
Hovering in front of her was a levitating board straight out of a science fiction movie, and on top of it stood an ugly alien holding some kind of bizarre weapon.
"This is..."
Caitlyn stared at the alien in shock, eyes wide.
Bang!
But just as Caitlyn noticed the alien, the alien noticed her too. A bullet ripped through the air and shot straight at her.
"No!"
Seeing the horrifying scene unfold in front of her, Caitlyn instinctively squeezed her eyes shut.
Her whole body went cold. She knew that if that bullet hit her, everything would be over.
And yet several seconds passed, and the impact she expected never came.
When she slowly opened her eyes again, she was completely stunned.
The handsome young man she had personally taken to the police station for fighting, and who had been released that very morning, was now standing in front of her, having taken the bullet for her without a scratch.
But that was not even the part that shocked her the most.
What shocked Caitlyn even more was that tied around the man’s waist was a blonde beauty with a completely dead look in her eyes.
"Just kill me already. Seven thousand years was more than enough. I’m too humiliated to keep living."
When Caitlyn listened closely, she could hear the blonde beauty mumbling to herself, which somehow made the whole scene even more unbelievable.
