The Viltrumite Across the Worlds
Chapter 172: Kayle, You B****
"Who is... this?"
Garen felt like the powerfully built war god looked vaguely familiar, like he had seen him somewhere before.
"Well, if it isn’t Garen. It’s only been a few days, and you’ve already gotten this pathetic? Remember that night when your powers first awakened, when you were muttering to yourself in the police car about chasing ten campus beauties?"
The golden war god glanced at Garen floating in the air, the corner of his mouth lifting as he teased him.
"Y, you’re that hero who beat the hell out of Darius?!"
Only then did Garen recognize the man radiating holy golden light from head to toe. It was the very same man who had helped him that night.
That was the night Garen got punched senseless by Darius and awakened his dark plane with help from Leona, who was out in space at the time. It was also the night this man had helped him beat Darius half to death.
Garen had always wanted to find a chance to thank him in person. But the man had vanished without a trace. Based on the fact that he could manhandle Darius, who was also a super-gene carrier, he should have been a super-gene carrier too, yet he had never shown up to train with them at all. That had left Garen thoroughly confused.
Of course, during training Garen had also asked the higher-ups about Jovian, but they had all kept their mouths shut. That only made him more curious and gave rise to all kinds of speculation.
What Garen had not expected was that he would meet that chivalrous hero who had stepped in to help him on the side of the road in a setting like this.
"My savior! One of us!"
Garen got so excited he immediately moved in for a hug.
"Right..."
"Hold it. Stop getting emotional on your own for a second."
Jovian raised a brow when he saw Garen throw his arms open and rush toward him, and casually held up his right hand.
Buzz!
In an instant, Garen was frozen in midair by an invisible force.
"Savior, I..."
Garen tried to say something.
"Shut it first."
But Jovian had already predicted that Garen was about to start rambling and used telekinesis to block his mouth.
"Who is that guy? Damn, he’s flashy as hell, even brighter than that Kayle woman sitting on the throne. Is he seriously trying to out-glow the angels?"
Xin Zhao raised a brow as he looked at Jovian in the sky, holy light pouring off him nonstop like he had turned special effects all the way up.
"Wait, he does look kind of familiar..."
"Oh, now I remember who that is. He’s the one who beat the crap out of me that night."
Darius suddenly realized who Jovian was. He would never forget what it felt like that night to be pinned down and get his face ground into the dirt by Jovian.
"So it’s Jovian?"
After hearing Darius speak, Caitlyn finally recognized the golden war god too. He was the very same Jovian she had personally arrested and thrown in jail, the same man who had later saved her out on the highway.
"Oh..."
Katarina remembered who he was too. She narrowed her eyes slightly. Jovian had told her they would meet again at the base, but he had never shown up, and that had left her feeling like she had been played. Seeing him now, she really did want to ask him why he had stood her up, but this obviously was not the time. So she decided she would talk to him properly after this whole angel incident was over. After all, Katarina had her pride too.
"Who is that? Seriously, who is that guy? Is he really that big a deal?"
While everyone else was tense and on guard, only Leona bounced around like some clueless rich girl, constantly asking Katarina and the others who Jovian was and why he apparently had enough clout to earn praise from Kayle, the Queen of the Gods, who always looked down on everyone and did not even take her, the chief god of the Lieyang civilization and one of the three great god-making projects, seriously.
"Boss, don’t underestimate that guy!"
"The day I first awakened, he beat the brakes off me!"
"I’ve been around for over thirty years, I was a known tough guy in my neighborhood."
"And he still pinned me to the ground and had me seeing stars for half the night."
Darius kept shaking his head, his face full of respect for Jovian’s strength. All in all, that night had left a psychological scar on him, the kind of deep impression he would never erase.
"He’s that strong?"
Leona blinked her big, expressive eyes, and her opinion of the shining golden Jovian rose another level.
She knew exactly how powerful Darius, the Noxian War God, was. If it came down to brute force, even if she and Garen teamed up, they might not be able to overpower him. And yet someone like that had been pinned to the ground and beaten by Jovian. That made Jovian’s strength...
Leona found the thought kind of terrifying.
At the same time, Leona became certain of one thing, Jovian was absolutely a chief god. The only mystery was which god-making civilization in the known universe had produced him. But judging by the way he carried himself, the civilization behind him was probably no weaker than the Lieyang civilization, and based on Kayle’s reaction, it might even be stronger, though that was almost impossible to imagine.
"So you’re Jovian?"
"Heh, quite an entrance. Look how badly you scared the kids, every last one of them rattled out of their minds."
Sacred Kayle sat on her radiant throne, her slightly arrogant eyes sweeping over Jovian from head to toe.
"Have we met?"
Jovian raised a brow when he heard Kayle’s tone, as though she already knew him well.
"Heh..."
After hearing Jovian’s question, Kayle merely smiled softly and said nothing.
"Heh..."
Jovian saw that Kayle clearly knew something but was not going to say it. Fine then. If you won’t say it, neither will I. You can "heh," and I can "heh" right back.
...
Garen looked from Jovian to Sacred Kayle and back again. So this was what gods were like. Got it, got it. When in doubt, start with a smug little laugh. No matter what happens, never lose the aura battle.
"I came to Earth for three things!"
"First, to see whether you’re worthy of an angel."
"Second, to see what the Galaxy Power actually looks like."
"And last, while I’m here, to wipe out Morgana, the greatest evil in the known universe."
Kayle sat upon her throne, looking at Jovian, her lips parting as she spoke in a calm voice.
"I see..."
Jovian nodded lightly, then took Yan by the hand and flew right up in front of Kayle.
"Jovian..."
Yan panicked instantly when she saw him do something that rude.
"Insolence!"
Before Kayle could speak, the guardian angels at her side moved first.
Each of them drew a flaming sword and took position in front of Kayle.
"Yan, this is the chosen man you were supposed to teach?"
"If you don’t know how to teach him, then hand him over. Big sister will teach him properly for you!"
Among the guardian angels, one of them, a beautiful angel with a hint of sharpness in her eyes and long golden hair tied back in a neat, efficient ponytail, pointed her flaming sword at Yan and spoke in a slightly provocative tone.
"Heh, all you ever do is run your mouth. No wonder you’re older than me and still single. Want me to help you out and teach you a little from experience?"
"Honestly... this idiot might be a decent match. He’s one of our angelic technological masterpieces too. As the Galaxy Power, the future chief god of the whole galaxy, his status is just about enough for you. Sure, he’s a little dumb, but if he weren’t dumb, how else could he possibly match someone as sharp-tongued as you?"
Yan first glanced at Garen, who was still being held in the air by Jovian, then turned to the ponytailed angel and hit her with a full barrage of mocking sarcasm.
"You..."
The ponytailed angel’s face turned bright red, but she could not get a single word out. When it came to arguments, she had never once gotten the better of Yan.
"Queen Kayle!"
"Jovian may not understand the rules, but from what I’ve seen over the past few days, his nature isn’t bad. I ask that you show him mercy."
Yan dropped to one knee before Kayle and spoke with complete respect.
"You’ve only been gone a few days, and he’s already won you over? You’re already speaking up for your chosen man now?"
Kayle looked at the nervousness in Yan’s expression, and rare amusement flickered in her eyes.
"Uh..."
"Your Majesty, that isn’t what I meant..."
A blush rose across Yan’s face, and she kept waving her hands in front of herself, trying to say she had not been won over the way Kayle was implying.
"That’s enough..."
Kayle shook her head when she saw Yan blushing like that. It seemed her Left Wing Guard still needed more experience.
"Uh..."
The moment Kayle signaled her, Yan instantly pulled herself together. Angels were all very good at controlling their expressions.
"You all stand down too."
Kayle continued issuing orders to the guardian angels.
"Queen Kayle, this man is dangerous."
The ponytailed angel turned and looked at Kayle as she spoke.
"Have I fallen so low that I need protection from the lot of you now?"
The corner of Kayle’s mouth lifted slightly as she threw the question back at them, and in that moment her overbearing presence shook everyone there to their core.
"Uh..."
"Of course not!"
"You are the most powerful being in this universe."
Hearing that, the ponytailed angel immediately put away her flaming sword and dropped to one knee.
"Then what are you waiting for? Stand aside."
Kayle did not even look at the kneeling angel. She simply continued giving her orders in an utterly calm voice.
"As you command..."
The guardian angels, including the ponytailed one, did not dare say another word. One by one they withdrew from in front of Kayle and returned to the positions they were meant to hold.
"Now then, let’s talk about you."
After seeing the angels disperse, Kayle leaned forward ever so slightly toward Jovian and spoke calmly.
"Talk about me?"
Jovian, who had very intentionally cranked his own visual effects to the max, lifted a brow slightly at Kayle’s words. He had no idea what there was about him that Kayle wanted to discuss. Unless, of course, she had somehow found out about his plan to marry the entire angel civilization.
"You’re very powerful..."
Kayle looked him over from top to bottom. Then a flash of white light passed through her eyes as if she intended to read his information.
And what she saw was the giant middle finger planted inside Jovian’s dark plane, along with the timeless message, What are you looking at? Looking won’t help.
"Queen Kayle..."
The second Yan saw Kayle react like that, she knew exactly what Kayle must have seen, and she was already preparing to explain before Kayle got angry.
"Heh..."
But to Yan’s surprise, Kayle only smiled.
"Is there anything you want?"
Kayle crossed her long, straight, elegant legs. Her left arm rested casually across the white thigh on top, while her right elbow lightly pressed against her left forearm, her right hand supporting the flawless side of her face like the final polished touch on a masterwork painting.
Her eyes were full of interest in Jovian, and inside, she was eagerly waiting to hear how he would answer.
"What do I want..."
"What do I want to do? Now that’s a good question."
"I want the entire angel civilization. You willing to give it to me?"
Jovian made absolutely no effort to hide his tastes as he stated his desire outright.
"You..."
The guardian angels all drew their weapons again the moment they heard him say that.
"Don’t say things like that..."
Even Yan got a headache from how fearless he was. She had always assumed that when Jovian ran his mouth, he was just talking big, but now it was obvious she had underestimated him. Who even knew which angel he had been fantasizing about while holding her in bed?
"Hahaha..."
"How big do you think this angel civilization is?"
Kayle raised a hand toward the agitated guardian angels, signaling that it was fine.
"I don’t want the angel scum, I want all the rest!"
Jovian spread his arms wide, as if he wanted to gather every angel into his embrace, including Kayle herself.
"Including me?"
Kayle fixed him with a burning gaze.
"Of course."
Jovian did not even hesitate. He was not Team Kayle, or Team Morgana, or Team Yan, Leng, Zhui, or Hexi either. He was Team Female Angel, meaning all female angels.
Marry one female angel and you’re a chosen man. Marry two and you’re practically half divine. Fall in love with every angel you meet and that makes you angel scum. Marry every female angel in the entire Angel Nebula, and that makes you the Lord of Angels!
"Hahahaha..."
Kayle laughed loudly as she touched her cheek.
The guardian angels all stared in surprise. They rarely saw their queen laugh, and they had never seen her laugh like this.
After all, their queen was the Queen of the Gods, the standard by which countless gods in the known universe measured themselves, the spiritual guide of all angels, the great Sacred Kayle. She had to maintain a cold, untouchable image at all times. Even if she wanted to laugh, she could not do so casually. That was what it meant to be the ruler.
"Is that a no?"
Jovian looked at Kayle and raised a brow again. He felt like he had spent the whole day doing nothing but raising his eyebrows. At this rate one of them was going to end up permanently higher than the other.
"How dare you!"
"To show such disrespect to Queen Kayle!"
Leng’s eyes burned with anger. Her name might have meant cold, but in truth she was more fiery than anyone.
"All right..."
But before Leng could really flare up, a cold voice cut her off and snuffed her out instantly.
"Queen Kayle?!"
Leng knew that voice better than anyone. It had guided her for nearly ten thousand years. She would never mistake it. It was the voice of the angels’ queen, Sacred Kayle.
Leng could not understand it. She simply could not understand why the great queen of the angels would say such a thing.
"Leng."
When Leng turned and looked toward their sacred queen, Sacred Kayle, she saw that the wild laughter had vanished from Kayle’s face. In its place stood a great divine ruler, calm, majestic, wrapped in boundless holy authority.
"My queen, I overstepped..."
The instant Leng met those domineering eyes, it felt as though her soul had been seized. Cold sweat broke out across her forehead, and her body started trembling without her control.
"Others can’t, you can. Others may not, you may..."
Kayle calmly finished what she had been saying.
"What?!"
The guardian angels were completely shocked by Kayle’s words.
"Hm?!"
At the same time, so was Jovian, the one who had proposed something so absurd that Kayle should never have accepted it in the first place.
Jovian studied Kayle carefully. Something about her felt faintly off, though he could not put it into words. Still, he could sense it, as if the Kayle standing in front of him knew him far too well. And yet Jovian was certain of one thing, there was absolutely no way Kayle could read any of his information. His technology had already surpassed the entire universe.
"But there’s a condition."
As Kayle said that, her expression turned serious.
"My condition should be very simple for you. Completely destroy Morgana. Do that, and I’ll hand the angel civilization over to you. What do you say?"
Kayle looked at Jovian, her cold expression carrying a faint killing intent.
"This..." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Jovian suddenly felt like his brain was not keeping up. The conversation had turned way too fast.
"I see. So if I agree right here to destroy Morgana, I get all the female angels?"
After thinking about it for a moment, Jovian smiled.
"Of course."
Kayle answered immediately, without the slightest hesitation.
"Too bad. My answer is no. The thing I enjoy most in life is telling self-righteous people no."
Jovian laughed with obvious disdain. Why should he follow Kayle’s script? They were all his, every last one of them.
"Of course..."
Kayle did not look the least bit surprised by his answer.
"Heh, you really do..."
Jovian smiled, intrigued by how familiar Kayle seemed with the way he talked.
"Kayle, you bitch!"
Just as Jovian was about to say more, the sky suddenly darkened.
In the next second, a demon, or at least someone who could generously be called a demon, appeared beside Kayle and Jovian like a projection. Honestly, she looked less like a demon and more like a woman in full heavy-metal death-rock makeup, her face painted up like chaotic stage art.
"If you don’t kill me for one day, you feel sick, don’t you?"
"With a sister like you, I swear I’m cursed just knowing you. Ptui!"
The death-rock singer of a woman shouted angrily and raised her middle finger at Kayle.
