This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 350 - 288 Brothers
Liu Ming strolled through the Heavenly Forge Bureau with great interest. He discovered that this place was indeed the gathering ground for the finest craftsmen of the Three Realms. Each craftsman he saw possessed unique and unmatched skills, which left him in awe.
The hint of pride in his heart also quietly faded away. Only now did he truly comprehend the vastness of the world.
"Fortunately, I still have the attic!" he silently recited to himself.
Soon after, he came across a small courtyard with green tiles and blue bricks that looked very pleasant, yet its style was significantly different from the surroundings, causing him to become immediately curious.
"It seems to be someone’s residence, how odd," he thought.
Liu Ming mumbled to himself as he slowly walked towards the small courtyard.
"Stop!" A commanding voice rang out, and only then did Liu Ming notice that there were heavenly soldiers guarding the entrance to the small courtyard.
"Where are you from, wandering around here aimlessly?"
"Dear Generals, I have just taken part in the grand examination and I was browsing around this area after finishing my test. I walked here without realizing it. If I have offended in any way, I ask for your forgiveness," Liu Ming quickly replied, the many years spent living in the Mortal World having granted him the capacity to deal with such situations.
"So, you’re a candidate. This is Mr. Mo’s residence. No outsiders are allowed to enter. If there’s nothing else, please leave immediately," the two heavenly soldiers expelled him.
"Leaving right away, leaving right away!" Liu Ming quickly responded, his body retreating continuously, but his curiosity bid him to steal another glance into the courtyard. It was his first time hearing of Mr. Mo. He wondered what kind of person would require heavenly soldiers to guard the gate, especially since even the main gate of the Heavenly Forge Bureau was unguarded.
As time passed, Liu Ming’s one-day tour of the Heavenly Court came to an end, and all the candidates were gathered at the Gate of the Southern Heavens.
The elder looked at them and said, "Congratulations to all of you for completing the exam. In seven days, those who have passed will be notified by someone. At that point, you will have another seven days to prepare before you join the Heavenly Court. Now, you may go back."
The crowd looked at each other, confused. They had come here in a daze and were just as bewildered about leaving. Although each of them possessed cultivation levels, the thought of flying up to the Nine Heavens was nothing more than a fanciful dream.
At that moment, a tremendous force suddenly overtook them, and they couldn’t help but fall downwards involuntarily. Many couldn’t help but let out pitiful cries at such an unexpected turn of events.
Although Liu Ming did not shout in despair, his heart raced. Falling from such a height, with his abilities, he feared he would turn into a mess of flesh.
"No, this is like a dream!" he suddenly realized, drawing from his numerous experiences. His soul was having an out-of-body experience.
Indeed, as he hit the ground, he felt a dizzy spell, and upon opening his eyes, he found himself still lying on the desk, everything as normal as usual.
"Haha, life is but a dream!" Liu Ming laughed heartily as he stretched, then looked up to the evening sky. A round red sun was slowly setting, staining the clouds at the horizon a beautiful red. Occasionally, a flock of wild geese flew across the sky. Liu Ming quietly appreciated this scene from the Mortal World, fearing that he might not have many more opportunities to see such sights in the future. He sighed softly.
The rules of the Heavenly Court were strict, and having joined the Heavenly Court himself, he started as a minor immortal. In the future, he feared he wouldn’t have the chance to return and wander the Mortal World. Now that he thought about it, the majestic and sacred Heavenly Court seemed like a cage.
"Alas!" A deep sigh echoed in this small room.
That night, a knock on the door woke Liu Ming. When he opened it, he found his good friend standing there, holding a jug of wine.
"Haha, you must have finished your exams today. Here I am, right away, with some fine wine to see you," he said, making himself at home by sitting down at the table and placing the fine wine and dishes he brought on it.
"Brother, you’ve gone through too much trouble!" Liu Ming sighed upon seeing the table full of wine and food, knowing his brother, despite having acquired a Divine Position by chance, was a minor deity with meager living conditions. To produce such a spread obviously took some effort.
"What’s the fuss about trouble or no trouble? You’ve just finished your exams, and we must celebrate. Oh, and I haven’t asked you how you did on the exams. Are you confident? Tell me in detail how they test you."
Liu Ming was silent for a moment, which made the man think he hadn’t done well, so he quickly consoled, "If you didn’t pass, it’s not the end of the world. The Heavenly Court isn’t as great as it seems. I heard even the daughter of the Jade Emperor ran away from there."
Seeing this, Liu Ming simply smiled and said, "Who said I didn’t pass?"
"You passed? Aren’t they yet to announce the results?" the burly man asked, surprised and delighted.
"I finished answering the questions quickly, and the presiding examiner assured me I would definitely be selected."
"Haha, my brother will be an immortal of the Heavenly Court! I can finally boast about it when I’m out and about. Wait a minute, if you passed, why do you look so worried?"
"Big brother, just as you said, the Heavenly Court is not all that great. With its strict rules, I’m afraid I’ll never have the chance to come to the Mortal World again."
The burly man fell silent. He understood the meaning behind Liu Ming’s words—their worlds would be separated, and the days of drinking and sharing meals like today would become a distant dream.
"Alas! But after all, it is the Heavenly Court, definitely better than where we are. If you have a good future ahead, I am also happy. As for me, don’t worry about it. Who knows, in a few years I might become a powerful deity and join you in the Heavenly Court. Then, we brothers can be reunited," said the burly man, forcing a smile.
However, his words were filled with reluctance. Yes, once his brother ascended to the Heavenly Court, the days to come would be lonely without someone to talk to.
"Alright, enough of that. Let’s drink, let’s drink. Now you tell me what the Heavenly Court is like. I’m very curious," urged the burly man, pulling Liu Ming into a smile.
Seeing this, a slight smile appeared on Liu Ming’s face. His brother had always looked after him and even now didn’t want him to be too sorrowful. He shook off his gloom and began to let loose with his brother.
As the cups and conversations intermingled, Liu Ming laughed and shared his experiences of the Heavenly Court. His brother was overjoyed hearing tales of the Gate of the Southern Heavens, the Lingxiao Treasured Palace, and the Heavenly Forge Bureau. The grand visage of the Heavenly Court seemed to slowly appear before his eyes, bringing a sense of unprecedented satisfaction to the divine spirit.
After the last cup of wine, the burly man collapsed on the table.
As a divine spirit, he wouldn’t get drunk if he didn’t want to, especially with the wine of the Mortal World. But that day, the burly man deliberately sought drunkenness and quickly passed out.
Looking at his inebriated brother, Liu Ming sighed deeply, but he was resolute in his mind to find a Divine Way Cultivation Technique in the mysterious attic for his brother.
