This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 40 - 26 Peaches
Inside Yalong Cave at that time, lanterns were strung up and colorful decorations adorned the walls, and all the female soldiers were beaming with joy, chatting and laughing.
"Is there some kind of great celebration?" Lin Fang asked with a smile to a female soldier inside the cave.
"Guests do not know, but our masters, the Great Golden Horned King and The Silver Horned King, are coming to visit the young master," said the female soldier with a face full of smiles. In the Demon Clan, strength is revered, and powerful Demon Kings like The Golden Horned King and The Silver Horned King are seen as ideal figures in the eyes of many female demons.
Lin Fang looked outside but did not see the two Demon Kings, so they must not have arrived yet. He was actually quite curious about these two monsters.
For an apprentice of the Grand Supreme Elderly Lord of the Heavenly Court to willingly acknowledge a Fox Demon as a mother indeed seemed an utterly irrational affair.
While Lin Fang was contemplating this, a commotion broke out outside. The female soldier he was conversing with got excited and said, "It looks like the masters have arrived!"
Without further discussion with Lin Fang, she ran out cheerfully.
Lin Fang shook his head with a smile. He could guess the thoughts of the female soldier. As a female demon, she naturally liked to attach herself to the strong, and the Golden Horn and Silver Horn were certainly strong. They commanded many little demons, and to marry them would truly be a leap up to Phoenix status.
However, Lin Fang considered whether it would be a crime for these female demons to think this way, given that the two gentlemen were apprentices.
Suddenly, he saw a group of female demons escorting two strong men with ferocious appearances and characteristic Golden Horns and Silver Horns on their head. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
As soon as they entered the Cave Mansion, the two men knelt before the Old Fox and kowtowed, saying, "Children pay respect to mother, we hope you are well."
"Very well, get up, I’ll have someone prepare food and drink for you," replied Old Fox with a smile, quickly ordering the feast to be prepared.
The family of three slowly entered the depths of the cave, followed by a crowd of Little Monsters belonging to Lotus Cave.
These Little Monsters were clearly familiar with Yalong Cave, and in no time they were chatting with others.
"Which land are you from, Monster, and why do you look so unfamiliar?" a particularly astonished little monster with a short stature asked.
Lin Fang turned around and noticed a small creature with the head of a wild cat.
"I’m a guest in this cave mansion, and which land’s monster are you?"
"I am called Bashan Tiger, a commander under the Great Golden Horned King," declared Bashan Tiger haughtily.
Lin Fang gave him a once-over and found it impossible to associate him with a tiger.
Seeing Lin Fang’s expression, Bashan Tiger immediately took offense and said, "What’s the matter? You don’t think this commander looks imposing, or like a tiger?"
Lin Fang pursed his lips, wanting to tell the overconfident Little Monster that he looked more like a cat than a tiger.
However, Bashan Tiger interpreted Lin Fang’s expression as one of fear, so he patted Lin Fang’s side and said, "I quite like the look of you. How about it, do you want to follow me? You do resemble one of my brothers quite a bit."
"Oh! May I ask what your brother’s name is?" Lin Fang responded, suspecting the Little Monster’s answer would be quite amusing.
"My brother’s name is Yi Hailong. Impressive, isn’t it?"
Bashan Tiger was a cat, Yi Hailong was a snake – yes, that made sense.
As they chatted, the voices of Golden Horn and Silver Horn could be heard from inside: "May I know which one of you is Lin Fang, who escorted my nephew here?"
Lin Fang quickly went out and respectfully greeted them, "Little demon Lin Fang at your service."
The Golden Horn and Silver Horn, seeing Lin Fang’s demeanor and noting the peaceful aura that was not typical of ordinary monsters – and particularly the quality about him that resembled the Grand Old Masters of Tushita Palace – took a few more points of interest in him.
"Indeed extraordinary. No wonder you could safely escort my little nephew through mountains and rivers to this place. Would you mind telling us about your encounters along the way?" The Great Golden Horned King said with admiration slowly.
Lin Fang naturally did not refuse and began narrating the journey, describing their adventures concisely and with a storyteller’s flair. Soon, he caught the interest of all the surrounding demons; naturally, he kept some details to himself.
"You say you’ve met the Scripture Seeker?" The Great Golden Horned King’s face lit up with excitement.
Lin Fang nodded with a smile, aware that he had piqued the interest of the two Demon Kings.
"Haha, dear brother, truly fortune favors us! I’ve been wondering where to find news of the Scripture Seeker, and now the information has come to us," he chuckled.
But Old Fox was confused and asked the Great Golden Horned King, "My son, what’s so special about this Scripture Seeker that you are so excited?"
"Mother does not know, I heard that this seeker of scriptures is a person of ten lifetimes of practice of cultivation, and eating his flesh would grant immortality," the Great Golden Horned King revealed, making the eyes of the surrounding monsters blaze with fierce flames.
Immortality, the ultimate goal tirelessly pursued by all beings, could be achieved by merely eating a piece of Tang Monk’s meat, so how could these monsters not feel their hearts aflame?
"However, there are many Demon Kings along the way; I fear that the Scripture Seeker’s mortal flesh might not reach this place before being consumed by others."
"Tang Monk’s meat is not so easily consumed. The monkey following him is no ordinary character. He’s none other than Sun Wukong, who caused havoc in Heaven five hundred years ago. Back then, even a hundred thousand Heavenly Soldiers could not subdue him. With his protection, ordinary monsters wouldn’t even approach him."
"This Sun Wukong is so formidable, my son, don’t act rashly," warned Old Fox, starting to sound hesitant. She wanted to eat Tang Monk’s meat as well, but she didn’t want to provoke such a formidable figure.
