This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 411 - 269: Aftermath
No one had expected that the war would end with a bitter victory for the Heavenly Court.
After all, the sight of the mighty Heavenly Army sailing towards Luzhou in the North was still vivid in everyone’s mind, yet such an invincible army met their current situation at the onset of the war.
This only made people more curious about the course of the war.
As grand as the war was, some details simply couldn’t be kept secret, and before long, those with keen interest in the Three Realms obtained detailed intelligence.
"Wars can be fought like this?" one person questioned in disbelief.
In this war, the Heavenly Court was not at fault for any mishap, nor did it fail to demonstrate its combat prowess, yet the Demon Clan on the other side exhibited a highly peculiar way of fighting.
Their tactics were completely different from the past, seemingly centering around cannons for both offense and defense, making them the key to the war.
The Demon Clan’s slippery tactics were a revelation to all.
"Such methods seem to have an astonishing effect against an army, with their flexible maneuvers for harassment and interception. The moment the situation turns adverse, they retreat immediately, never engaging in prolonged combat. They hit the Heavenly Court’s cumbersome forces right where it hurts."
"That’s also because they have cannons. As long as they time it right, they can inflict immense damage in the shortest time. Otherwise, such tactics would not be effective."
People were in heated discussion, and they suddenly realized that in future conflicts, whoever controlled cannon fire would command the initiative in war.
"Wars of the future are likely to change significantly!"
"We have to find a way to get our hands on those cannons."
This had become a common understanding among many in the Three Realms. Everyone was no fool; they had simply been constrained by the era and hadn’t thought of this before. Now that someone had started it, these bright minds could certainly comprehend the subtleties involved.
"Easier said than done. These cannons are highly confidential to the Heavenly Court. The Heavenly Forge Bureau is now like entering a dragon’s den and tiger’s den combined. We’ve sent out countless scouts, but it’s like throwing stones into the sea—no news at all, getting the design of the cannons is too difficult."
Meanwhile, the Buddhas on Mount Ling also heard the news.
"Amitabha Buddha, such formidable cannons. It seems that our Buddhist Sect also needs these divine weapons," a Buddha murmured softly.
"Unfortunately, the Heavenly Court keeps it a closely guarded secret. We cannot even gather information, and now with Demon King Mara on the prowl, we simply cannot spare any effort."
The crowd turned their eyes towards Maitreya, who was seated on the Lotus Platform. The Buddha opened his eyes slightly and said, "Venerable Guanyin has personally witnessed the great battle in the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons, I wonder what insights she has."
Guanyin smiled and said, "Everyone only thinks of the Heavenly Court, could it be you’ve forgotten about the Demon Clan of Luzhou in the North?"
Only then did people remember that the Demon Clan also seemed to have sufficient cannons.
"Aren’t the Demon Clan’s cannons taken from the Heavenly Court’s Treasure Ship?" a Buddha asked, puzzled.
This was the common belief among the people of the Three Realms at the time, for the Demon Clan had always been considered ignorant; no one believed they could replicate the Heavenly Court’s cannons through the Treasure Ship.
Guanyin slightly shook her head and said, "You are all venerable Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, yet your vision is clouded by worldly bias. The Demon Clan stole only a few Treasure Ships, but the cannons revealed in this war far exceed that number. Hence, there is only one possibility: the Demon Clan has mastered the method of casting cannons."
"Regrettably, no one knows where the Demon Clan is manufacturing the cannons. I have also surveyed Luzhou in the North but failed to locate their foundry." Guanyin said with a faint sigh.
After all, the Heavenly Court is heavily guarded, and the newly revived Demon Court is far easier to infiltrate than the Heavenly Court.
"It seems we can only trouble Venerable Guanyin to make a trip to the Demon Court, to see if it is possible to buy back the cannons," Maitreya said softly.
"I shall adhere to the decree!" Guanyin nodded gently in response.
Far away in the Demon Court, Feng Jiu was of course unaware that someone had set their sights on her, and with the victorious news from the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons, the entire Demon Court erupted in excitement.
For so many years, Luzhou in the North seemed like the Heavenly Court’s backyard, where they could come and go as they pleased. Countless monsters died at the hands of the patrolling Celestial River Navy.
The Demon Clan seemed forever unable to escape the shadow of the Heavenly Court. Even though, during this period, many monsters stood up to resist the rule of the Heavenly Court, invariably, they all died on this path.
So much so that later on, monsters would pale at the mention of the Heavenly Court, completely losing their will to resist, with some monsters even colluding with the Heavenly Court, helping these so-called immortals persecute their fellow Demon Clan members in Luzhou in the North.
However, the battle at the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons had allowed the Demon Clan to hold their heads high and proclaimed to the Three Realms that the once-powerful Demon Clan had returned.
This battle greatly boosted the morale of the Demon Clan people to resist the invaders, and shattered the Heavenly Court’s attempt to quickly annihilate the Demon Clan.
Since the news reached the Demon Capital, all the monsters spontaneously took to the streets, singing and dancing, to celebrate this joyous moment.
A radiant smile spread across Feng Jiu’s face as she stood atop the newly built Imperial Palace of the Demon Court, overlooking the entire Demon Capital City, and said with a smile, "It has been a long time since I’ve seen the people of the Demon Clan this happy."
Behind her, the high-ranking officials of the Demon Court followed, with the Demon Master also expressing his sentiment, "The battle in the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons reversed our decline, allowing our Demon Clan to regain confidence. This battle is of great significance, and the Great Saint who moves mountains has made an immense contribution."
"I dare not claim this credit for myself, it is all thanks to Mr. Lin’s teachings. In terms of the use and understanding of cannons, there is no one in the Three Realms who can surpass Mr. Lin," the Shituo King said repeatedly, waving his hands, attributing the victory entirely to Lin Fang.
"It’s a pity that Lin Fang is not here; otherwise, hearing your words, he would certainly be overjoyed," Feng Jiu said in high spirits.
"I truly admire Mr. Lin wholeheartedly. He seemed to predict the future, anticipating all the Heavenly Court’s moves. I simply followed his teachings and obtained this great victory," the Shituo King said, full of admiration for Lin Fang.
"By the way, does this tactic have a name?"
"Master seems to call it ’guerrilla warfare’," said the Shituo King softly.
"What an apt name for ’guerrilla warfare’, capturing the essence of this strategy. To confront a behemoth like the Heavenly Court, a head-on confrontation is not the way," praised the Demon Master, clapping his hands.
The guerrilla warfare tactics that Lin Fang taught the Demon Kings had also enlightened the Demon Master, as if opening a new realm, giving him the feeling that this was how one could fight wars.
This was a first in his countless years of life.
"However, we will next face the full onslaught of the Heavenly Court, and the situation is still very severe. We must not be the slightest bit negligent; otherwise, our desire to revive the Demon Clan may be shattered," the Demon Master said gravely.
