This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 537 - 448: Moving Forward
It was just unfortunate that their status was low, and to the Heavenly Court, they were dispensable.
"Should we report this matter?" the Earth God hesitated.
After all, such a big event was impossible to hide, but he was also worried that people from the Heavenly Court might come to investigate.
"Report it, it is a chaotic time right now, do you believe our report will go unnoticed once submitted?" the Mountain God confidently stated.
He knew too well the way the Heavenly Court operated, such minor matters would hardly catch the attention of those high and mighty Immortals.
Their report would most likely end up amongst a pile of useless documents, ignored by all.
The Earth God glanced at the Mountain God, knowing that this Mountain God had stayed in the Heavenly Court before having any divine duty and had a relative working there, making him very familiar with the workings of the Heavenly Court.
"Then let’s go back and prepare the report to be submitted," the Earth God decided.
"Yes, once the report is submitted, I doubt anyone will remember us. We should be able to survive here by keeping a low profile, but I am worried about the Demon Clan coming back for a reckoning," said the Mountain God, not without worry.
The Earth God fell silent instantly. The two of them had disrupted the leylines causing several peaks to almost be destroyed. This place was the homeland of the monsters, and when they returned, they did not know how they would be retaliated against.
"Alas, we are helpless. Now that we have our divine duties here, we cannot leave. After all, it’s the same outcome no matter what, so why worry so much? At least for now, they haven’t returned."
The two looked at each other and sighed involuntarily before returning to their temples.
Meanwhile, Lin Fang and Mr. Mo saw the Heavenly Court Camp. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"It seems the Heavenly Court no longer cares about this place," Lin Fang concluded.
In the camp, groups of Heavenly Soldiers and Generals were seen gathered in pairs and trios, some were chatting, others were drinking, and some were even gambling—none were training.
This lax military discipline made Lin Fang exclaim in amazement; he wondered how such an army had dominated the Three Realms — perhaps only by their immortal abilities.
Mr. Mo examined carefully and noticed that only Heavenly Soldiers and Generals were left inside the camp; none of the Star Lords of the Heavenly Court were to be seen.
He couldn’t help but smile and say, "It seems that the Jade Emperor’s advancement has had a great impact, at least it has unsettled these Star Lords of the Heavenly Court."
"Why, aren’t they officials of the Heavenly Court? It should be good for them if the Jade Emperor advances further."
"Not necessarily, the Heavenly Court was initially formed by uniting under the powerful force of the Three Pure Ones, with numerous factions internally. Although nominally all under the Jade Emperor’s rule, in practice, they all have their own agendas and do not concern each other."
"The Star Lords constitute a significant faction; despite their relatively close relationship with the Jade Emperor due to the Great Formation of the Entire Sky, they also have their own demands."
"What are those demands?" Lin Fang was very curious.
"These Star Lords hope that the Path of the Stars will shine across the vast world, even seeking to anchor people’s destinies with the stars."
Lin Fang thought for a moment and then exclaimed, "What great ambition!"
To anchor everyone’s destiny with the stars was yet another way to dominate all living beings. If each star could govern fate, the beliefs of all living beings would immediately shift.
In such a world, seeing a person’s future was to see if they were favored by the stars, and even those who held superior statuses were often dubbed as incarnations of celestial constellations.
This was another form of dominion over all living beings, no different from that of the Heavenly Emperor.
"Yes, these people have lived through countless years, and the obsession to pursue the Dao has long been deeply engraved in their souls. Thus, when they heard that the Jade Emperor had taken this step, an invisible rift had already appeared," Mr. Mo sighed.
He couldn’t help but lament that the Jade Emperor, being the most intelligent in the Three Realms, still trapped himself in a situation where he was against the world, perhaps from the moment he chose that path, this outcome was destined.
At this point, Lin Fang couldn’t help but laugh schadenfreude, as he could imagine what the Heavenly Court would look like now.
The atmosphere must be very eerie.
The two of them stood not far from the Heavenly Court Camp and peeked for a while before turning toward the hinterlands of Luzhou in the North, moving as quietly as they had come. The people of the Heavenly Court were still engrossed in their activities, completely unaware.
Lin Fang even thought that if the Demon Clan launched an attack on the Heavenly Court at this moment, it likely would result in a disastrous defeat for them.
But in the end, he gave up this tempting thought. At this critical moment, it was better not to provoke the Heavenly Court, or else it might give the Jade Emperor a chance to divert attention.
Anyway, considering the current situation, it wouldn’t be long before the Heavenly Court withdrew their troops. The Valley of Ten Thousand Demons Mountain Range had already lost its strategic significance, long-distance supplies were not easy, and the Heavenly Court was bound to face a tumultuous autumn, no longer able to maintain their force here.
Walking out of the mountain range, the view suddenly opened up, revealing a vast plain, and on the plain, the fortifications once built by the Demon Clan looked like fierce beasts sprawled on the earth, exposing their cold fangs.
Even without reaching the Demon Clan’s position, Lin Fang and Mr. Mo still keenly felt the lethal and deadly aura lingering around.
This was the legacy of a brutal war that might take a long time to return to normal.
Mr. Mo looked at all this and sighed deeply; it had not been easy for this race to persist until today.
By a whisker, a mere whisker, the Demon Clan had almost been doomed for eternity, henceforth synonymous with evil slaughter, and the very word "civilization" would have forever departed from them.
Luckily, everything was saved, and the flame of civilization was ignited once again; this time, the Demon Clan surely had a bright and promising future.
The two did not use mana, but instead measured the earth with their feet, like ordinary mortals.
The land here showed a crimson color, the result of blood seeping into the soil, and the faint smell of blood was still discernible to the nose.
Due to the pervasive killing intent and lethal aura, no vegetation grew here, everything succumbed to death.
The corpses of the fallen Demon Clan had long been cleared and buried, but the remaining traces were still clearly visible, allowing one to glimpse just how cruel the war had been.
Death had become the main theme of this land.
Lin Fang couldn’t help frowning; at this rate, this land might become unarable and uninhabitable.
For the people of the Heavenly Court, what this place turned into was of no concern to them, but the people of the Demon Clan still had to live on this land in the future.
"Do you have a solution?" Mr. Mo asked curiously.
