This Journey to the West is so terrifying
Chapter 81 - 66 The Small Town
"How do you feel?" Lin Fang asked with some concern. In the previous breakout battle, White Ape had slashed with several swords, tearing open the encirclement, but also exhausting his soul, plunging into unconsciousness. Lin Fang, with no other choice, had placed him beside the Shariputra, hoping to use the aura of this Buddhist treasure to nourish White Ape’s soul.
"I feel very good, I have realized that the way of the Sword Immortal is to seek life from death. Only swordsmen who have endured the tempering of life and death have a chance to climb to the peak of the Sword Immortals." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
White Ape turned his head, his eyes opened, and two beams of sword light shot out, dissipating only three inches away from his body. The air was filled with a terrifying Sword Intent, chilling to the bone.
"The soul of a Sword Immortal should be like sharpening a sword, constantly tempered in life and death!"
Lin Fang, upon hearing this, inwardly clicked his tongue. No wonder they say that Sword Immortals in the Three Realms have the supremacy in battle—this method of practice is way too abnormal. Who could stand it? Even if it was himself, Lin Fang thought about it and decided to forget it. It was simply masochistic.
"It seems like you’ve gained a lot this time!" Lin Fang couldn’t help but exclaim.
At this point, a long-absent smile appeared on White Ape’s stern face. He pointed at the Shariputra on the table and said, "The Buddhist sect really has some things. This Shariputra contains traces of cause and effect. While my soul was exhausted, it seems I sensed the hidden laws within the Shariputra. Given time, perhaps I could learn to sever cause-and-effect with my swordsmanship."
"Severing cause-and-effect, that’s pretty impressive!"
As is well known, cause-and-effect is invisible and intangible, yet it is related to everyone. It is rumored that the Primordial Heavenly Lord is the cause of all effects, but in terms of utilizing the way of cause-and-effect, the Buddhist Sect is foremost.
If White Ape really could comprehend such a sword technique, Lin Fang’s future would be much safer. After doing anything, first let White Ape slash with his sword, cutting off cause-and-effect. However, this style feels a bit strange.
Lin Fang rested in the Glazed Glass Tower for several days before he finally recovered his spirits, erasing the exhaustion caused by his desperate escape. As time passed, fewer and fewer Buddhist Soldiers roamed the forest. It seemed that Gālan and the others had decided he had left the area. It was time to go out and get some fresh air.
"Who wants to go out and play for a while?" Lin Fang asked with a smile.
But he saw that none of the little monsters replied, not even Bashan Tiger, who usually loved to roam around.
"That’s odd. Has the sun risen from the west? Not a single one of you wants to go out." Lin Fang was surprised. He took a careful look at them and realized that these guys indeed had no intention of going out.
"I want to practice seriously. If I encounter those guys from the Buddhist Sect again, I’ll make sure they’ll be searching the ground for their teeth!" Bashan Tiger waved his arms energetically as he spoke.
"Right, right, I want to practice too!" Yi Hailong nodded in agreement, finding it rare for these two to be unanimous.
Little Fox, however, seemed somewhat sullen. "I have to save Grandmother!"
Seeing this, Lin Fang sighed lightly. Well, it looked like he would be going alone again.
With a flash, he left the Glazed Glass Tower, appearing under a large tree. His sudden appearance startled a rabbit eating grass nearby, which then frantically tried to flee. In its panic, it ran headfirst into a tree and immediately fainted.
Lin Fang walked over, picked up the fainted rabbit, and examined it as he mused to himself, "What a plump rabbit, can this be considered ’waiting for a rabbit to hit upon a tree stump’?"
Laughing, he tossed the rabbit into the Glazed Glass Tower and headed north happily. Tonight, he could have an extra meal.
After traveling for a few days, Lin Fang noticed something amiss, only to see occasional flashes of light in the sky, which were individuals riding on various magical treasures.
They seemed to all have the same destination, and there was never a quiet moment over several days. Lin Fang’s curiosity was instantly piqued, and he hurriedly moved toward the direction where the lights were heading.
Within half a day’s effort, Lin Fang actually discovered a small town concealed by an array.
Just as he entered the array, the scene before him changed abruptly. The once dense forest vanished, replaced by the hustle and bustle of a small town.
"This is quite interesting!" Lin Fang’s interest was immediately piqued, and he walked into the town with a smile, looking around with great curiosity.
He quickly realized that everyone in this place possessed some level of cultivation, making it a market exclusive to cultivators.
The roadside shops were not selling ordinary items, but various rare materials and herbs, and even cultivation techniques. However, it seemed they did not accept worldly goods in exchange; they either bartered or used something called Spiritual Shells.
This object looked just like a shell but contained the mildest of mana within, capable of replenishing anyone’s mana, thus becoming a hard currency.
"Looks like I need to exchange some money to spend!" Lin Fang sighed to himself. It was difficult to get by without money, and he had just come upon this market exclusive to cultivators, with so many good things to buy by the roadside—it would be too much of a loss not to purchase anything.
Thus, he found someone to ask for directions and came to the front of a magnificent tall building.
This was a wooden pavilion, its fine grain and solid texture indicating that this was not ordinary wood. Above the door, two carvings of divine dragons in flight could be seen, with a plaque between their claws bordered in gold, bearing three big characters: Treasure Pavilion.
Lin Fang casually walked in, and a Shark Person with a good-looking face hurried over and asked warmly, "Sir, welcome to Treasure Pavilion. If there is anything you need, please feel free to ask me."
The Shark Person had a keen eye. The moment Lin Fang entered, she judged him to be a big client and therefore had planned to go all out, relying on him for her annual performance.
Lin Fang, however, exhibited a surprised expression and said, "Shark People? There are still traces of you on land? I’ve heard that you seek shelter under the Dragon Clan’s protection—who would dare to bully you?"
"The guest is very knowledgeable, even knowing such matters. To be honest, Treasure Pavilion was indeed established by the Dragon Clan, and we owe our standing to His Majesty the Dragon King’s patronage," replied the Shark Person upon hearing Lin Fang’s words, revealing a look of surprise. These were not small secrets in the Cultivation World, and no one of insufficient cultivation level could know them. Those who did know were either of noble birth or possessed great strength.
Lin Fang had learned of this news from Great Immortal Hu Li, and he had not expected to encounter it today.
"I was wondering, there were so many treasures with the Old Dragon King—it turns out this is why!" Lin Fang said with a laugh.
No wonder the treasures of the Dragon Palace seemed inexhaustible; they had such a goose laying golden eggs.
But the Shark Person was suddenly startled, as Lin Fang dared to refer to the Old Dragon King so casually—it seemed he was truly someone they couldn’t afford to provoke.
