Tower of Origin: I Evolve All Rewards
Chapter 229: Market of Roads and Names
The gatekeeper laughed when Qin Yuheng refused.
It was a pleasant laugh, the kind merchants used when a customer rejected the first price.
"No? Good. Only fools accept the first offer."
The mission panel appeared.

[Warning]
What you buy may not be what you keep.
What you sell may not be what you lose.]
Qin Mo looked at Lin Xian’er.
"This is your fault."
She smiled brightly.
"This is beautiful."
"It is horrible."
"Both."
The market immediately attacked through offers.
A stall offered Qin Mo a self-completing formation brush in exchange for "minor future exhaustion."
Rejected.
A shadow vendor offered Qin Lian perfect invisibility in exchange for "being forgotten by those unnecessary."
Rejected.
A road seller offered Qin Yuchen an unbreakable defense route in exchange for "never leading."
Rejected.
A red-gold stall offered Qin Yuheng a map to the false sun in exchange for "one unused name."
Rejected without inspection.
Lin Xian’er handled bargain language with terrifying precision. She exposed clauses hidden in punctuation, silence, stall placement, and price order.
"Never buy from a stall whose shadow faces the customer," she said.
Qin Mo wrote that down.
They found stolen names hanging from lanterns. Some belonged to remnants who had traded names for safe passage and then became market servants.
Qin Yuheng used Nameless Self Mask and True Name Protection Seal to recover names without taking ownership.
Five names restored.
The market grew irritated.
Road debts were harder.
A road debt looked like a golden path contract. It allowed passage, then later demanded direction, loyalty, or memory. Qin Yuheng broke three using Debt-Free Exchange Seal, True Road Restoration Stone, and Lin Xian’er’s clean contract method.
Each broken road debt weakened the Gatekeeper Merchant.
At the center, the gatekeeper clapped.
"You are not a buyer. You are a regulator."
Lin Xian’er looked offended.
"That sounded insulting."
The gatekeeper smiled at her.
"You, however, are delightful."
Qin Mo whispered, "Do not flirt with gate merchants."
Lin Xian’er ignored him.
The final trial was exchange.
The gatekeeper offered three ways to open the gate:
Sell Qin Yuheng’s "key" name.
Buy passage with a future favor.
Outtrade the market by proving a clean exchange greater than all false bargains.
Qin Yuheng chose three.
The gatekeeper raised an eyebrow.
"What clean exchange do you offer?"
Qin Yuheng looked at the recovered name remnants, broken road debt holders, and freed market servants.
"Return what was stolen. Keep only what was freely paid."
The market shook.
Lin Xian’er smiled.
"That is a terrifyingly fair audit."
Qin Mo looked at her. "You enjoyed saying that."
The Gatekeeper Merchant transformed.
[Gatekeeper Merchant]
[Level Equivalent: 58]
[Type:
Road-name debt authority]
[Abilities:
- Bargain Binding
- Name Appraisal
- Future Favor Hook
- Road Debt Chain]
The battle was part combat, part negotiation.
Every strike created a counteroffer. Every defense required refusing hidden clauses. Lin Xian’er disrupted the bargain field. Qin Mo broke contract formations. Qin Lian cut name strings. Qin Yuchen protected recovered remnants.
Qin Yuheng used Chosen Road Banner Field but modified it through Debt-Free Exchange Seal: no one under the banner owed him for protection.
That principle shattered the Gatekeeper’s strongest hook.
The gatekeeper laughed as he lost.
"You would be a terrible merchant."
Lin Xian’er replied, "No. He would be an expensive one."
Qin Yuheng struck the merchant’s ledger core.
The false bargains burned.
The Seventh Gate opened.
[Gatekeeper Merchant defeated / outtraded.]
[True name preserved.]
[True road preserved.]
[Clean future preserved.]
[Seventh Gate cleared.]
The gatekeeper, now only an old market remnant, bowed.
"A clean exchange is rare," he said. "Do not waste it."
Then he vanished.
Floor 70 was complete.
