Chapter 1156 The Final Clash
In the midst of his battle against Gronex, Quillon had begun seeing the form of a blade technique unique to himself.
He had earned approval from his master Asher, but every true practitioner of the Sword Savant Style was expected to develop a secret technique of their own.
Fighting against one of the ultimate beings of the world, an ancient dragon, Quillon had gained an immense inspiration that would have taken thousands of lesser battles to reach.
The culmination of all of that had resulted in him reaching a new level of enlightenment in swordsmanship and envisioning an attack capable of bringing down a dragon.
It was still rough around the edges, and he was using it in combat for the first time. Still, Quillon felt that this was his best bet at winning.
Even exhausted and running on fumes, Gronex was still a powerful threat. Nothing short of his best was going to deal any serious damage.
Wrapping his blade with mana, wind and light, Quillon created a torrent around his sword and charged in.
He was falling from above as Gronex clad in full body magma armor was flying up towards him.
The distance between them shrunk quickly, and Quillon could soon feel the blazing intense heat on his skin
For just a moment he felt a hint of fear that he might not be able to win this exchange.
Yet, steeling and sharping his mind, he cast out every thought other than attacking. If he believed in himself and his swordsmanship, he was certain that his blade would see him through.
When the two of them finally clashed, the already destroyed ground below was riddled with more fissures, and the sky above seemed to split.
Immediately Quillon felt himself being pushed back as he tried to slice through the dense lava surrounding Gronex.
He had turned into a raging windstorm, but even then, he was lacking in the force necessary to clash with a giant dragon several levels higher than him head on.
’Aerial, give me everything! Even if it breaks me!’ Quillon screamed internally.
His recently evolved and powered up spirit companion had been keeping their merged powers at a level where it would not cause undue harm to Quillon’s body. But right now, he needed everything from her.
There was only a second of hesitation before Quillon felt more spiritual energy coursing through him.
The power of wind and light that came from Aerial burst out of him and he bolstered his attack with it.
Now Gronex was the one being pushed back by what looked like an enormous shinning tornado.
Their clash lasted for only a couple of seconds that felt like hours for both of them.
An explosion of force from their continued battle pushed them both back several hundred meters.
Gronex was the first to recover and flapped his wings heavily as he barreled back towards Quillon with his mouth wide open.
"Ahhhhh!"
Shouting, Quillon surrounded himself with more wind and flew down at the beast before him like a meteor.
Several times the two of them engaged each other only for their powers to repel each other.
However, each time Quillon lost more energy and it was clear that he was losing out in this battle of attrition.
That was fine though, as he had simply been waiting for the right moment.
’Now!’
When Gronex grew impatient and lunged to finish him before fully restoring his magma armor, Quillon righted himself and swung his sword.
From all of their previous times coming to blow, Gronex believed that he would crush through Quillon here and finally end the persistent swordsman.
Except, that would only hold true if Quillon’s strike this time was in line with what he had already displayed.
"Ten Greatest Techniques, Final Slash."
An unbelievable burst of power surged through Quillon’s sword as he used the last remaining ability of his Supreme Skill.
It was only useable once he had used the other nine techniques and it was a finishing move that granted one attack filled with everything the wielder had left.
The great ruler of the molten sea was caught off guard by the sudden surge of energy that his opponent displayed. He had thought that Quillon was on his last legs and had nothing left to give.
But Quillon wanted to make sure that his Final Slash landed a critical blow. Once he used it, his fight would be over. So, it had to bring this battle to an end.
"GAARRRRRRR!"
Gronex roared loudly and concentrated all of his power to meet Quillon’s strike since it was too late to dodge.
Only a second went by as they clashed for the last time.
The magma armor around Gronex popped like a bubble and Quillon’s Final Slash three hundred meters through the colossal Dragon’s body.
"Damn. I missed." Quillon cursed as he spit up a mouthful of blood and passed out.
He had been aiming to cut Gronex’s head in two, but the dragon’s last-ditch defense had thrown off the trajectory of Quillon’s attack.
Instead, he had ended up carving through the Lava Dragon’s and down his torso.
It was a horrid wound that left Gronex split in two with a flood of blood and organs falling out of his body. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Yet even this was not enough to immediately kill such a high-level dragon that was basically the embodiment of vitality.
The two of them soon crashed into the ground, though it was impossible to see where Quillon landed thanks to the gigantic dust cloud the impact of Gronex’s body had sent flying into the air.
From a distance, Marcus and Lyra watched and hoped that everything was over.
"Even after all that!"
Lyra yelled when she saw through the dust that Gronex was trying to put himself back together.
He was using earth magic to push his split body back together so that his regeneration could heal him.
"Lyra, go get Quillon. I’ll finish this." Marcus said, pulling himself up through sheer grit and determination.
Obviously, she thought that he was going to use his Soul Gluttony Supreme Skill to boost his powers at the cost of consuming his own soul. But Marcus assured her that was not what he planned to do.
"Don’t worry. I’ve got one last trick up my sleeves. It wouldn’t have worked before, but that dragon should be too weak to resist now." Marcus said as he made his scythe appear in his hands.
