Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 343: I’m Complimenting You
When Xu Ancheng and his family arrived, Ni Yanqing and his parents were at the door welcoming guests.
"Mr. Ni, Mrs. Ni, Yan Qing." Xu Ancheng greeted them with a smile, and Yi Roujing followed suit.
"Grandpa Ni, Grandma Ni, good day uncle." Baozi stood between Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing, and after his parents had greeted them, he respectfully followed suit.
He was wearing a blue thin jacket, a white turtleneck sweater inside, black cargo pants below, and a pair of small black leather shoes, making Baozi look adorably cute.
"Oh my, these clothes are really nice, the combination is great, and of course, the best part is this sweet little darling." Ni Yanqing’s mother, Yin Shuzhen, couldn’t take her eyes off Baozi after seeing him, and after he greeted her, she immediately squatted down and picked him up.
"What’s your name?"
"Xu Muyi, nickname Baozi." Baozi answered honestly with his little childish voice, who could resist that?
Yin Shuzhen came from a scholarly family and was usually very gentle and demure. Today, this action was already considered abrupt, but Baozi was truly the most handsome and cutest among the many children here, and he rekindled her maternal instincts, considering her age where she should have grandchildren to dote on but didn’t.
Yin Shuzhen glared at her son, "You better step up your game."
"Dad." Ni Yanqing turned to his father, Ni Qichao, instead of responding to his mother.
"How about we wait until the event is over to talk to him? What do you think?" Ni Qichao smiled and whispered to Yin Shuzhen.
"Alright." Yin Shuzhen shifted her attention back to Baozi, "How did you know to call me Grandma Ni?"
"Because Daddy called you Mrs. Ni." Baozi blinked and replied.
"Then why do you call him uncle?" Yin Shuzhen pointed at her son, Ni Yanqing, but didn’t turn her head, continuously watching Baozi.
"Because Daddy calls him brother." Baozi said matter-of-factly, "If Daddy calls him brother, I call him uncle; if Daddy calls someone by name, I call them uncle."
Yin Shuzhen was a bit surprised, "How are you so smart, did your grandpa teach you?"
"Mom taught me." Baozi replied honestly.
"No wonder Jing University Medical Department, they’re indeed smart." Yin Shuzhen looked at Yi Roujing with admiration.
"Grandma Ni will come back later, you all go in and find a place to sit first." Yin Shuzhen directly handed Baozi to her son, "You lead Ancheng and them inside, hold him tight, and get serious."
Ni Yanqing looked resignedly at the sky, holding Baozi as they went inside.
Once in Ni Yanqing’s arms, Baozi straightforwardly examined him.
"Not afraid of me anymore?" Ni Yanqing asked amusedly, giving Baozi a little bounce.
"I was never afraid." Baozi seriously replied, "I was just concerned back then."
Ni Yanqing raised an eyebrow, "At your age, you already know how to be concerned?"
"More or less."
"Ancheng, your son is really smart, no wonder my mom likes him so much." Ni Yanqing said with a smile.
"You don’t like me?" Baozi countered with a question.
Ni Yanqing’s smile deepened, "If I do like you, would you be my son?"
"No way." Baozi instantly rejected, "But liking and being a son are two different things."
Ni Yanqing was extremely surprised, "Ancheng, is your son really only three years old?"
"Can that be faked?" Xu Ancheng replied, "Baozi is just very curious and wants to understand everything, plus he loves learning, so he speaks a bit more maturely than his peers."
"Let me hold him," Xu Ancheng said.
"No, it’s not much of a walk, I can handle it." Ni Yanqing didn’t put him down, and continued teasing Baozi as they headed to the main hall for the family banquet.
By now, many people were already in the Ni family’s main hall. An elderly man in a red Tang suit sat at the head seat, his hair half-white but full of vitality; beside him sat an elderly woman in a similar Tang suit, though in her sixties, her gentle temperament clearly showed she was cultivated by an affluent family.
All the younger guests who entered first went to greet the elderly couple at the head seat. Xu Ancheng and his family were no exception, but with Ni Yanqing guiding them, those around them looked at them a little more inquisitively, many not recognizing Xu Ancheng’s family.
But there were those who did recognize them, "Ancheng, sis-in-law, Baozi." Jiang Bomeng directly approached to greet them, joining them in front of Old Sir Ni and Old Madam Ni.
"Old Sir Ni, Old Madam Ni." Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing greeted them in unison with respect.
"Great-grandpa Ni, great-grandma." Baozi bowed to them at ninety degrees in greeting.
"Ah, good, good." With Baozi there, both Old Sir Ni and Old Madam Ni’s expressions softened.
"Grandpa, grandma, I’m going back out now; mom just asked me to carry Baozi in." Ni Yanqing explained with a smile, as if Old Sir Ni and Old Madam Ni didn’t immediately understand, their smiles deepened a little.
"You can go out now, Boming is here, right?"
"Yes, yes, Baozi, what should you call me?" Baozi had just finished his greeting when Jiang Bomeng picked him up.
"Uncle Jiang." Baozi called out.
"Uncle Jiang will take you to have some snacks." Jiang Bomeng said, carrying Baozi and leading Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing to the area where the desserts were laid out; a group of young people were already sitting at a table.
There were quite a few familiar faces, Cheng Yimo and Cheng Yijin from the Cheng family, Deng Yiyi from the Deng family, as well as Hua Yiran and Shu Yujie.
"Ancheng, sis-in-law." Hua Yiran was the first to stand up and greet them.
"Wow, Roujing, is this your son? He’s so cute." Shu Yujie exclaimed seeing the chubby little Baozi, happily taking him from Jiang Bomeng’s arms and bringing him to the table, pointing at the things on it, "Tell auntie what you want to eat, I’ll get it for you."
"You sure have a knack for it, having a son on your first try." Cheng Yijin looked at Yi Roujing with a smile.
"Xu Ancheng, they’re complimenting you." Yi Roujing turned her head bluntly, still not forgetting to explain to Cheng Yijin, "You’re not in medicine, so you might not know this, but having a boy or a girl is determined by the father."
As soon as Yi Roujing finished her sentence, Cheng Yijin’s face stiffened.
"You’re new to medicine and know quite a bit." Deng Yiyi chuckled as she joined in.
"I was a nurse before studying medicine, so I do know quite a bit." Yi Roujing admitted directly.
"Huh?" Baozi looked from Cheng Yijin to Deng Yiyi, his face filled with confusion, "Mom, these aunts aren’t married, are they? Why do they talk so much about having sons?"
"What’s the reason? They’re just anxious." Shu Yujie burst out laughing, "Those two aunts are not young anymore, they’re your mom’s age, yet they’re not married, not to mention having kids."
"Shu Yujie, don’t act like you’re much younger." Cheng Yijin’s face darkened.
"Oh, but I’m not in a hurry, unlike some people who can’t stop talking about having kids with everyone they meet." Shu Yujie was amused, her laughter almost making Deng Yiyi’s smile drop off her face.
