Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 357: Commendation
The situation for the Cheng Family wasn’t easy. Compared to the Deng Family, the Cheng Family valued unity and worked collaboratively, so the relations among the families were good. Now suddenly knowing that Cheng Yijin isn’t a member of the Cheng Family, the kindness shown to her over the years was shattered by the truth, making everyone uncomfortable.
Ning Hong was particularly restless, tossing and turning while thinking about her biological daughter.
"Cheng Jinyong, tomorrow I must see my girl."
Ning Hong felt a tinge of resentment, but more so of self-blame. When she gave birth back then, she couldn’t be present, and even in such circumstances, how could her family let a child be switched without knowing? But she never doubted it all these years. Now that she knew the truth, her heart was racing, and by the next day, blisters had formed at the corner of her mouth.
At Jing University, the moment Yi Roujing entered the school gate, she heard everyone discussing Cheng Yijin and Deng Yiyi. Seeing that the letter of accusation on the bulletin board had not been torn down, she realized the Cheng Family had taken action.
"Don’t get into any conflicts with others today," Xu Ancheng advised, giving Yi Roujing’s head a gentle rub before letting her go.
As soon as Yi Roujing entered the classroom, she immediately felt a heated gaze upon her. Turning her head, she met the slightly flattering eyes of Zhang Mengdi. Yi Roujing slightly curled her lips, nodded toward her, and then went to sit down next to Ren Xuejuan and others.
"You made up with her?" Ren Xuejuan asked somewhat surprised.
"Not really, just that our relationship is a bit more harmonious than before," Yi Roujing replied truthfully.
At eight o’clock, the class bell rang, and today’s first class was anatomy. Professor Xue wasn’t the first to enter today. Vice Principal Hu came in first, followed by Director Li from the academic affairs department, Director Geng from the medical department, then Professor Xue and Counselor Li came in together.
Li Hongwei was holding a porcelain basin with quite a few things inside. Vice Principal Hu had both hands placed in front of him, and everyone noticed he was holding a rolled-up red silk.
"Today, Vice Principal Hu has personally come to our class to award a commendation to our classmate Yi Roujing for her willingness to help others and her brave actions," Li Hongwei, as the counselor, narrated with passion as he hosted the event.
Upon hearing her name, Yi Roujing felt the eyes in all directions focus on her. Most were with appreciation, some curious, a few tinged with jealousy, but Yi Roujing received it all.
As soon as Li Hongwei finished speaking, Vice Principal Hu unfurled the silk banner for all the students to see and then looked at Yi Roujing with a face full of affection.
"Would student Yi Roujing please come up to receive the silk banner and the award," Li Hongwei called out loudly, prompting Yi Roujing to stand up.
Knowing it would be a high-profile presentation, even if it was just in front of the whole class, Yi Roujing still felt a bit shy. She stepped forward and bowed to Vice Principal Hu and the others present.
Vice Principal Hu placed the silk banner into Yi Roujing’s hands. As for the reward, it was the porcelain basin held by Li Hongwei and the items inside, which included an envelope that Yi Roujing guessed contained money, along with a towel, a backpack, and a pen.
"Classmate Yi Roujing’s virtues deserve to be learned by all of us, let’s give her a round of applause."
"Clap clap clap —" The entire classroom was filled with vigorous applause, with some cheers mixed in.
"Our school places great importance on good students like Yi Roujing. The other day, we asked Director Li from the academic affairs department to call her in, hoping to commend her face-to-face. However, some students may have misunderstood, so today we’ve decided to award Yi Roujing in Professor Xue’s class," Vice Principal Hu explained with a smile.
"For students, the most important thing is their studies. We’ve already taken some of your time, so we’ll leave now. Please listen attentively to Professor Xue’s lecture." With smiles, Vice Principal Hu and Director Li left.
"Alright, let’s quiet down and start the class," Professor Xue said with a smile. "After class, the class representative, please come to my office."
"Yes," Yi Roujing immediately agreed.
So, after the anatomy class, Yi Roujing carried the porcelain basin and followed Professor Xue to the office of the medical department.
"I heard about your situation from Director Geng. You’ve been wronged," Professor Xue said with affection as he looked at Yi Roujing.
"Reasonable suspicion is reasonable. Anyway, it’s all over," Yi Roujing replied with a smile. Moreover, she had turned the situation around, so there wasn’t anything to feel wronged about.
"You’re very magnanimous," Professor Xue chuckled, "You missed the first class, go take the lecture notes I’ve prepared, I’ve marked the key points for you."
Once they reached the office, Professor Xue handed Yi Roujing a notebook, surprising her somewhat.
"In my lecture, my class representative was wronged, so as a teacher, I must compensate you," he said.
Yi Roujing’s porcelain basin now included a notebook, with an inscription and words of encouragement written by Professor Xue personally, noting the key points of the first class, giving it great significance.
Before the next class began, Yi Roujing returned the items to her dormitory. However, as she stepped outside, she saw Deng Yiyi waiting at the dorm entrance.
Their back was somewhat lonely, but when they turned around, their bloodshot eyes were harsh.
"Are you quite proud of yourself?" Deng Yiyi stared at Yi Roujing, her voice relatively calm.
"Proud of what?" Yi Roujing found it somewhat amusing.
"Ruining both mine and Cheng Yijin’s reputation, you not only preserved your own but also received a reward. Isn’t that enough to be proud of?"
"I have a clear conscience, what is there to be proud of," Yi Roujing rolled her eyes, "Those who do no wrong, fear no ghosts at their door."
Deng Yiyi’s eyes grew deeper, "The Xu Family sure knows how to play their cards, using the Cheng Family to suppress our Deng Family—is it born of ambition, or to stand up for you as their daughter-in-law?"
"Suppress?" Yi Roujing laughed outright, "You speak of suppression, haven’t you and Cheng Yijin always used the power of the Deng and Cheng Families to suppress me?"
"Originally I thought since you are girls, we should be more tolerant, but a cornered rabbit will bite when desperate, let alone a person. Now you feel what being reported feels like," Yi Roujing snorted.
"Why don’t you let your family solve it for you, I’m waiting, and from now on, I won’t put up with it either. If need be, I’ll leverage the Xu Family’s power as well."
"Do you really not know, or are you pretending not to?" Deng Yiyi mocked, "As if you don’t know about the Cheng Family’s matters, now you’re talking about girl conflicts with me."
"What about the Cheng Family?" Yi Roujing frowned, looking at Deng Yiyi with confusion and a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
Deng Yiyi suddenly laughed, "Whatever, whether you know or not doesn’t matter anymore, why say so much to you."
"But you are capable, no wonder Xu Ancheng fancies you, I’ve given up. From now on even if we meet on the road, let’s pretend not to know each other," Deng Yiyi said before turning to leave.
Yi Roujing raised an eyebrow, if that could really be done, nothing would be better.
