Chapter 360: Chapter 360: Calm After the Storm

Once Fang Zuxin explained everything to Ren Xuejuan, Ren Xuejuan was utterly shocked.

"Could there be a mistake? Brother, you mean I am Cheng Yijin?" Ren Xuejuan’s face was full of disbelief. Though she was not familiar with the Cheng Family’s situation before, she had heard of them after entering Jing University, and such a family seemed beyond the reach of ordinary people.

"I’ve seen the report, it’s not wrong, or they wouldn’t have specially requested to see me." Fang Zuxin affirmed. Since the Cheng Family had acted, the result could only be true.

"Do you want to meet them?" Fang Zuxin asked. "They are eager to see you and feel guilty. I heard they secretly came to see you a few days ago when your dorm mates were dining at the state-run restaurant. But they dared not suddenly appear to recognize you, fearing you might be frightened."

...

When Ren Xuejuan returned to school, Yi Roujing clearly sensed her different mood.

"What happened? You were so cheerful after going out with your brother last time, why are you so downcast today?" Yi Roujing asked with concern, suspecting that Ren Xuejuan might have learned the truth.

"Nothing much." Ren Xuejuan twisted her fingers, but seeing the concern in Yi Roujing’s eyes made her want to share, "It’s just that my parents found me."

"Your in-laws? Or your biological parents?"

"My biological parents." Ren Xuejuan replied, her cheeks slightly reddening, with an unaware hint of joy, "Turns out they didn’t abandon me."

Yi Roujing’s eyes flickered with a smile, "What parents would abandon their child?"

"They’ve found me now and wish to acknowledge me. I feel a bit apprehensive." Ren Xuejuan confessed, "After all, I’ve never met them, I don’t know what they’re like, or if they’ll like me."

Yi Roujing smiled, "Parents who love their children, their own child, no matter what, they will always like them. You don’t need to be a certain way for them to wholeheartedly love you; the blood bond is a truly magical thing."

"Their desire to recognize you, to be close to you, indicates their affection."

"Really?" Ren Xuejuan’s eyes glistened with tears.

"Of course." Yi Roujing nodded confidently, and Ren Xuejuan’s face bloomed with a smile like a flower.

Sir Deng risked his reputation to maintain the Deng Family’s rights to stay in Jing City, even using the family children as leverage for arranged marriages. Deng Yiyi was young, beautiful, and smart, making her Sir Deng’s first choice, and he arranged her with Zheng Zhongyong from the Jing City’s Zheng Family.

Deng Yiyi cried, resisted, even went as far as seeking Cheng Yimo for help, but nothing changed the fact of her engagement to Zheng Zhongyong.

The Zheng Family is a powerful family, a match everyone desires, but no one would choose Zheng Zhongyong as he suffered an injury in childhood, not only crippling one leg but also bearing half-body burns, making him unsightly and harsh by nature.

Regardless of the Deng Family’s transformation, Yi Roujing was uninterested; now that she was free from the Cheng Family and Deng Family’s entanglements, her life was much more peaceful, focusing all her energy on her child and family in her spare time.

With May Day approaching, Yi Roujing took Baozi to Beiluo Lane. Xu Ancheng was busy, working overtime even on May Day, so today was just the two of them visiting.

"Sister-in-law, could you help me deliver this to Anguo? These two little ones have just woken up, so I can’t leave the house."

Yi Roujing had just sat down when Feng Lishu came out of the kitchen with a lunchbox. The waste recycling station where Ding Weihuo worked sent many good things today, so Ding Weihuo and Li Hongying headed over early, leaving only Feng Lishu at home.

Feng Lishu now felt a bit regretful; Li Hongying had hesitated earlier this morning, fearing Feng Lishu couldn’t handle the children alone, but Feng Lishu wanted Li Hongying, who’s always hard-working, to take a break, encouraging her to go out with Ding Weihuo.

Seizing the opportunity while the children were asleep, she cooked in the kitchen, planning to send the food to Ding Anguo later. Due to his excellent grades, Ding Anguo had been favored by a professor and joined a research project, which kept him busy. Feng Lishu thought of delivering him home-cooked meals to make him happy. Now, she had to trouble Yi Roujing.

"I..." Yi Roujing wanted to offer to watch the children, letting Feng Lishu go, but knowing her own capabilities, Feng Lishu also understood this, wanting Yi Roujing to do something easier.

"Lishu, thank you for your hard work." Yi Roujing said sincerely.

Feng Lishu laughed, "Sister-in-law, you’re working hard too. Baozi, you must protect Mom well."

Baozi nodded, eagerly taking the mesh bag from Feng Lishu’s hand, which contained two lunchboxes, "Second Aunt, don’t worry, I exercise with Dad every day. I’ll protect Mom well."

Feng Lishu felt a warmth in her heart, squatting down to rub Baozi’s face, "Sister-in-law, Brother is so good at training the children, I almost want my two youngest ones to follow Baozi for training in the future."

"When Dumplings and Tuanyuan grow a bit more, I’ll train them." Baozi said, taking on the responsibility, "After all, I’m the big brother."

Feng Lishu laughed heartily at Baozi’s earnest serious face.

The courtyard echoed with crying from the two little ones.

"You’d better get busy, I’m heading out first." Yi Roujing quickly urged Feng Lishu.

"Hmm, Sister-in-law, take your time. The two little ones are just hungry, I’ll feed them." Feng Lishu closed the door and returned to the courtyard.

"Mama’s coming." Feeding two at a time was something Feng Lishu managed quite well, knowing that Li Hongying taught well; the two children stopped crying once they ate rice, waiting patiently in turn, one mouthful at a time.

Yi Roujing held Baozi’s hand, carrying a mesh bag, heading for the Department Store, buying malt extract, milk candy, pastries, biscuits, and the like, getting two sets of each before heading to the bus stop.

"Mom, why can’t I help you carry things?" Baozi asked, eyes filled with confusion as he watched Yi Roujing lug a fully packed mesh bag.

"Because Baozi is still too young; if you carry too much, it won’t be good for you." Yi Roujing explained patiently, "Once you’re older, you can help Mom carry a reasonable amount of things."

"Will I not grow tall?" Baozi mumbled.

"With your genes, you won’t be short. Look at your dad’s height, and me. But we still need to be careful."

When the bus arrived, the two boarded, found seats, and bought tickets to the Qing University bus stop.

"Wow, young one, is your dad at Qing University?" The ticket lady asked with a smile upon seeing Baozi’s cuteness and sensibility.

"My dad is at Jing University." Baozi replied truthfully, "We’re going to see my second uncle and uncle-in-law."

At this point, it wasn’t just the ticket lady, but nearly everyone on the bus turned their heads, complimenting a whole family of scholars and intellectuals with various praises.
