Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 388: Qi Wenting
"By the way, Wang Qiushuang said that Li Xipei’s people took Niuniu. How is Niuniu? Is she alright?" Yi Roujing’s gaze moved from the operating room to Xu Ancheng’s face.
"Niuniu is fine, just scared. I took her to Mom’s place; there’s no need to worry with Mom there." Xu Ancheng got up and sat beside Yi Roujing, pulling her into his embrace.
"This time it was my fault. I didn’t arrange things well and misjudged people." Xu Ancheng was very remorseful. His mistake almost cost Yi Roujing her life, and now even Wang Qiushuang’s fate was uncertain.
"I made mistakes too," Yi Roujing reflected. "I was too self-centered, using my skills as a crutch and making myself and Wang Qiushuang bait. In the end, I’m fine, but Wang Qiushuang she..."
"She will be fine," Xu Ancheng interjected. "After the disaster comes good fortune. Once she recovers, we as a couple will properly thank her."
Yi Roujing nodded.
The red light of the operating room finally went out at nine in the evening. Yi Roujing got up immediately, and Xu Ancheng followed her closely.
"Dean Zhou, how is she?" Xu Ancheng asked.
"The surgery was very successful." Dean Zhou removed his mask, a smile on his face. "The patient herself is also very strong, she pulled through."
"Once the anesthesia wears off, she should wake up. After that, just take good care of her, and she’ll be fine. She’s young and can recover."
"Thank you, Dean Zhou." Xu Ancheng clasped Dean Zhou’s hands.
Yi Roujing stood by, finally at ease, and thanked him repeatedly.
When the nurse wheeled Wang Qiushuang out, Yi Roujing stepped forward to follow.
A private room was arranged, booked under Xu Zongyin’s name, and a special caregiver was hired to take care of Wang Qiushuang.
As Yi Roujing calmed down, she felt noticeably hungry, just as Mrs. Kang arrived with a thermos container.
"I’ve made soup and dumplings. Eat a little; I’ll watch over her here. Rest assured, I’ll take good care of this benefactor," Mrs. Kang said, aware of the situation and knowing she had shielded Yi Roujing from a bullet, making her a benefactor to the Xu Family.
"I’m good at taking care of patients, especially with meals. What’s in this thermos is for our benefactor," Mrs. Kang added.
"Thank you, Mrs. Kang. We’ll head out then." Xu Ancheng took the thermos in one hand and held Yi Roujing’s hand with the other, and they left the ward.
"I want to stay and watch her wake up before going back," Yi Roujing said.
"Alright, let’s eat first, then go home. You can pack some necessities for Wang Qiushuang for her hospital stay, and then we can come back to the hospital."
Yi Roujing agreed with Xu Ancheng’s suggestion, "You’re right."
They sat at a stone table and chairs downstairs from the hospital ward and started eating dumplings. Mrs. Kang had made a lot, and Yi Roujing, having been hungry for a while, ate eight in one go.
"Eat slowly," Xu Ancheng gently cautioned, "have more when we get home later."
Uncle Cao had been waiting at the hospital and hurried to help when he saw them coming.
"Is everything alright now?" Uncle Cao asked, still shaken.
"Everything is alright now," Xu Ancheng reassured him.
When Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing arrived at the Ding Family’s courtyard in Beiluo Lane, the lights were bright, and everyone rose as they entered.
"Thank goodness everything’s fine," Li Hongying held Yi Roujing tightly, patting her back gently.
"Mom," Yi Roujing’s eyes reddened.
"Ancheng, let’s talk inside," Xu Zongyin called Xu Ancheng.
"Dad, I want to listen too," Yi Roujing said firmly.
"Alright," Xu Zongyin agreed without hesitation, knowing that a daughter-in-law of the Xu Family should have this courage.
"You all talk slowly; I’ll make you something to eat," Li Hongying said.
Xu Zongyin, Xu Ancheng, and Yi Roujing went to the study in the west wing, where one room was for Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing, and the other for Ding Anmin and his wife. The remaining room was a study.
"What’s going on with Qi Wenting?" Xu Zongyin asked Xu Ancheng.
"Qi Wenting voluntarily transferred to the East Province to investigate that organization, seeking revenge for those who harmed his younger brother," Xu Ancheng began.
"The specifics of his investigation are unknown, but the result is that he joined the organization and became the new leader."
"I only found out about this now," Xu Ancheng regretted, "though Qi Wenting hated the organization that corrupted his brother, he actually hated me more."
"If it weren’t for me back then, his brother wouldn’t have died, and he wouldn’t have been forced by the Chang Family to leave Jing City, with his career stagnating."
"Li Xipei was released from the East Province by him and brought to Jing City for leverage."
"Of course, Li Xipei volunteered. Part of the plan was a personal vendetta against me, and another part was targeting the Chang Family. However, nothing significant was achieved, though Qi Wenting escaped."
"He managed to become the head of the organization and had long prepared an exit route. Through this event, he hit three targets: damaged the Chang Family, took revenge on me, and used us to wipe out almost all the organization members, then fled to Hong Kong with the organization’s wealth, likely already abroad now."
"Was there an insider? How did he know about your operations?" Xu Zongyin frowned.
"Your arrangements this time were well-executed, even anticipating weapons, ensuring none of our people were sacrificed. Even if you didn’t know it was Qi Wenting behind it, it didn’t prevent arrests."
"There was a traitor in the Chang Family," Xu Ancheng explained. "Chang Xiuming was involved in this operation. He’s a soft person, though aware that he shouldn’t discuss work at home, he’s easily tricked, and it was his elder brother who manipulated him."
"I recall the eldest of the Chang Family is also a policeman, and an illegitimate child," Xu Zongyin frowned, "so this thing got entangled with the Chang Family’s internal matters?"
"Yes," Xu Ancheng nodded.
"Chang Xiuguang is the eldest son of the Chang Family but born out of wedlock, and his mother died in childbirth without leaving him an identity. Though nurtured, he always lacked the confidence compared to his younger siblings. Qi Wenting manipulated him into becoming a pawn."
"Understood, I’ll wrap this up; don’t get involved anymore," Xu Zongyin advised and got up to leave the study first.
"Zongyin, have a bowl of noodles before you go; I’ve made a portion for you too," Li Hongying warmly invited.
Xu Zongyin couldn’t refuse and knew of Li Hongying’s culinary skills, so he had a bowl of fresh fish ball noodles.
This was a new dish by Li Hongying, very fresh without the muddy taste of river fish.
After eating, Yi Roujing realized the taste came from the broth, with flavors of dried seafood.
After finishing the noodles, Li Hongying handed over some items she had prepared while the three were talking, "When Qiushuang is discharged, have her stay here; Mom will take care of her recovery. Xingchen’s due soon too, so I’ll cook for both of them."
"Thank you, Mom," Yi Roujing nodded and, after checking on the sleeping Niuniu, left with Xu Ancheng to return to the hospital.
