Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 400: Quarreling
Yi Roujing and her family of three returned to the room prepared by the Dai family. It was specially decorated, with careful attention given, and the bedding was obviously new. Baozi was already sleepy, so Yi Roujing helped him wash up and then let him sleep.
"Tomorrow I’ll go to East Province University to find Xiangxiang," Yi Roujing said, "You stay in the room, and I’ll first ask Zhenhua about the location of East Province University."
Yi Roujing stepped out of the room and, as soon as she reached the stairway, she heard voices downstairs.
"Dad, I’ve applied for an employee housing unit this year, and we should be getting it." Dai Zhenxiong and his wife, who had finished their conversation, were now downstairs talking to Dai Chunsheng.
"Are you sure you want to move out?" Dai Chunsheng asked with concern. Although he cherished Li Honghua the most, he treated all four of his children equally. He was a good husband and a good father, not because he claimed so, but because he earned recognition from his wife and children.
"Yes, Dad, don’t worry. Meiling and I will come back often, definitely visiting you on the weekends when we have no other plans," Dai Zhenxiong said with a smile.
Dai Chunsheng nodded at his words, "Okay, you can decide for yourselves at this age; you can take charge."
"Second Brother is going to move out?" Dai Zhenyong seemed interested. He had considered it before, but his wife Zhao Jingyuan had always stopped him, not wanting to move out. After all, he was a technician at the machinery factory, wanting to build good relationships with people there. Living on-site would surely offer more learning opportunities.
Dai Zhenyong had learned from the senior technicians at the factory largely due to Dai Chunsheng’s influence. Unlike his father, his disposition wasn’t suited for police school, so he was committed to excelling in what he could do. He aspired to advance further.
Senior technicians would share their knowledge only with apprentices. He had thought about this, but Zhao Jingyuan consistently disagreed, the root of her disagreement being pride. Her family had a strong foundation and power, so why should she apprentice to someone with unspecified status?
"Yes, if you can apply for a house, why not do it? It’s close to work, and on days off, you can visit Mom and Dad, making it easier for Mom. Preparing meals for such a large family is exhausting," Dai Zhenxiong understandably remarked.
"I’ll apply this year too," Dai Zhenyong decided.
"What are you applying for?" Zhao Jingyuan quickly retorted, but her voice was soft, especially since Dai Chunsheng was there; she dared not speak loudly, giving only an added eye roll.
"Apply for a house," Dai Zhenyong firmly replied, "Second Brother is right, if you can apply why not do it now? Later, when you want to apply, they might not grant it."
"If we don’t get it, we don’t get it; it’s not like we have nowhere to live," Zhao Jingyuan replied, "Besides, Mom can help with the kids’ commute to and from school; she’s feeling much better now."
Upon saying this, Zhao Jingyuan clearly felt Dai Chunsheng’s stern gaze, which scared her into silence.
"You’re a teacher, but you want Mom to handle your kids’ commute? What’s the point of being a teacher if you can’t take care of your own children, let alone educate others?" Dai Zhenhua couldn’t take it anymore and mocked.
"Dad got you into the school because you had two kids to care for; if you won’t take care of them, you shouldn’t be working," Dai Zhenhua didn’t pamper this eldest sister-in-law at all. What nonsense, always trying to gain from the family. Why should the Dai family spend money and effort?
"It was agreed that my mom wouldn’t look after the kids because it was too taxing, so we gave you extra monthly allowances. What, we should give money and effort?"
Zhao Jingyuan was rendered speechless by Dai Zhenhua, her face flushed with fury, "Well, isn’t it because Mom’s feeling better now, that’s why I said it, I..."
"What about your own mother, then? Your mother is in excellent health; let her take care of them. Don’t have her do it for free; give the allowances your family gave you to her, she’d surely be willing," Dai Zhenhua sneered at Zhao Jingyuan.
"Why does your mom usually scheme to gain from the Dai family, but not want to contribute?" Dai Zhenhua expressed displeasure, "Don’t think we don’t know about these things, we just find it beneath us to mention. Be smart, don’t go overboard."
"Dai Zhenyong, look at your sister-in-law, she’s not from the same flesh and blood..."
"Pa——" Dai Zhenyong directly slapped Zhao Jingyuan, his face looking equally unpleasant.
However, the most displeased expression belonged to Dai Chunsheng. He looked at the couple, Dai Zhenyong and Zhao Jingyuan, his eyes filled with displeasure. Zhao Jingyuan was already crying, but dared not do so loudly. She had grown overly conceited, how could she say such things in Dai Chunsheng’s presence...
"Zhenxiong is right; if there’s a house to apply for, it should be applied for, and you should move out," Dai Chunsheng directly made the decision, "If we’re unable to secure the house, I’ll assist you. Based on your years of service, it’s surely enough. This house will be applied for this year no matter what."
"Also, if you’re dissatisfied with how the Dai family handles things, you’re free not to like it. In the future, you can rely on yourselves. I won’t force you. Zhenyong, never chastise your wife in front of me again; resolve marital matters yourselves. Should you need my advice or decision, then come to me," Dai Chunsheng gave Dai Zhenyong a warning look.
"Men should not hit women, especially their own. If she’s wrong, there are many ways to correct her; don’t use this method."
"Dad, I won’t do it again," Dai Zhenyong admitted his fault.
"Remember my lessons clearly; all of you go back to your rooms. There are guests at home today, and you’ve crossed a line." Dai Chunsheng shook his head disappointingly and headed back to his room first.
Yi Roujing felt it wasn’t appropriate to go downstairs, so she just returned to her room.
Seeing Yi Roujing coming in, she directly shushed, Xu Ancheng looked puzzled. Upon hearing the footsteps coming up one after another, he raised an eyebrow.
"What happened downstairs?"
"There were a few arguments," Yi Roujing replied, "I’ll ask Zhenhua tomorrow morning."
Zhao Jingyuan, who had been slapped, punched Dai Zhenyong a few times upon returning to their room. Dai Zhenyong attempted to block her, "You want to hit me in front of the kids?"
Zhao Jingyuan didn’t care about the circumstances, but Dai Zhenyong couldn’t be oblivious, and he reluctantly bore a few blows.
"What do you mean, what does your dad mean? I married into the Dai family all these years and still can’t compare to that cheap stepmother."
Dai Zhenyong’s face darkened, "Are you blind, can’t you see how good my dad and mom’s relationship is? Or is your brain malfunctioning? Upon marrying into the Dai family, my mom is your mother-in-law. You dare speak like this in front of me; where’s your confidence coming from? I’m telling you, if you create discord with my mom, the person leaving the Dai family will only be you."
Zhao Jingyuan widened her eyes in disbelief, "What are you saying? I’ve given you two children."
