Chapter 312: Hollow Mountains [ 1 ]

A few hours had passed since that debacle, and now, I simply stood there atop a small mountaintop, regretting my choices.

Then, I glanced over to Jenna, who, even after so many hours, had yet to wake up. The problem was that her wings began to sprout a few minutes ago, and by now, they were fully out.

It was a bit strange, especially since I tried to control it with my Telekinesis, but it was almost like our energies were polar opposites. I had never felt such a rejection before, which made this whole experience that much more strange.

But at the same time, I knew there was no other way. Vincent was an idiot for keeping her locked away, mistreating her for all her life... I felt sick to my stomach just thinking about that. I was glad that he was dead now.

Though explaining to her how he died was going to be a little... difficult.

Despite that, I quietly waited atop this mountain for a few more minutes, until finally, I felt her waking up.

"Ugh..."

She rubbed the back of her neck with a pained expression, then glanced at me.

"Where are we...?"

I shrugged. "Just look around. We’re on a mountain."

"I know that much. I’m asking, where are we on the continent now? Where is my father?"

"I knocked some sense into him and kidnapped you. You can thank me or hate me, I don’t really care much. All I want you to know is that from here on out, I’m going to try to train you and your powers," I said matter-of-factly.

She just stared at me for a moment, as if not believing a single word that had come out of my mouth. But the rude awakening that I wasn’t joking came soon after, causing a horrified expression to appear on her face.

"You knocked out my father?"

That’s what she’s worried about?

"I’m sure he’ll be fine. He’s a tough lad," I said.

But she didn’t feel the same.

"No, he’s not... He’s an idiot, I know that much. But he’s also someone who acts tough, but is weak."

In times like these, her naivety shined the most. But I listened to her and agreed with her somewhat, hopefully making her feel better. Once that was done and she was finished with her blabbering, she glanced past me, down the mountainous slope.

"We’re in the Elodrenia continent. Specifically, we’re at the northern end of it. If you look the other way, you’ll see the ocean. Swim across it, and you’ll reach the Skyward continent," I said.

"I’m not a little kid." She pouted, standing upright, then dusting herself off. "I have read history books. I know how the oceans work and which continents there are. I even tried to build a ship once, but my father tore it down and grounded me for a year."

A year?

Jeez...

"Also, you should stop treating me like a kid. I’m 16."

"That’s still a kid," I replied with a chuckle.

Right as she was about to start nagging me again, I raised a single finger, trying to quiet her down.

"The reason we’re here right now is because I believe if I were Clementine, I would travel to the most obvious location and then make my base there."

"Who’s Clementine?" she asked innocently.

"My soon-to-be wife." I glanced past her at the ocean, ignoring her smirk.

"This location is perfect for crossing, especially since along the way, there’s a location that would allow her to enter a tunnel and leave without a trace."

That tunnel was obviously the one leading to her parents. They lived not too far away from here, so it’s definitely the ideal spot. As for where she could be training? Well, it was obviously the mountain itself.

In the game, these mountains were an area I could never actually enter. At least, not until reaching the very end of the game. After all, this very area was where Kevin killed the last Demon King and got rid of all Demons.

...Or something.

But at the very least, in the end of the game, the actual name of the mountains was revealed: the Hollow Mountains.

And if the mountains themselves were hollow, then that could only mean there was a whole civilization living inside of them. My Mystic Eyes actually confirmed that.

After all, when I scanned the mountains, I couldn’t feel anything within them. If it was just all stone, then I would feel a blockage, but now, it was almost like there was an empty space.

Almost like someone enchanted the entire mountain range. How very strange, if not for the fact that I knew there was only one person alive who could do something like that.

Clementine.

"So these mountains, then? We’re going to just stay here?"

"We’ll go inside," I answered.

There evidently was no entrance. At least, not an entrance I could find with just my Mystic Eyes. Enchanting was way too overpowered when it came to defense and detection blocking.

But right as I thought that finding this would take a while, I spotted Jenna looking in one particular direction. She had been staring at an area near the ocean for a while now, and now that I glanced in that very same direction, I could spot something off about it.

There were a couple of trees there. It almost seemed normal, if not for the fact that one tree in particular was thicker than the others.

...Almost like someone made the entrance purposefully normal to avoid any sort of tracking. But could Clementine really have done that?

I guess, had I not glanced here and had my Mystic Eyes, I would never know. But now that I did, I decided to grab Jenna and, without a moment of hesitation, I turned us both into black lightning, reappearing in front of the slightly odd tree.

And now that I was so close to it, I could clearly tell this was the entrance.
