Transmigrated as the Villain: I Will Destroy Fate - Chapter 32: Preparations [1]
The alarm rang.
Ronan silenced it before the second chime rang, getting up with a tired groan.
For a brief moment, he didn’t do anything, staring at the wall in front of him.
Things were going to change.
He had forced several pieces to start moving, and the future as he knew it would be completely different.
Ronan sighed and pushed those thoughts to the side, automatically shifting into his usual routine.
Arriving at the B class homeroom, Ronan took his usual seat in the north-west side of the classroom. And as usual, Kazuma Momozono came and sat beside him.
"Ronan," he greeted with a nod.
Ronan nodded back.
Usually, it ended there, but Kazuma continued.
"Today is the elective fair."
"I am aware."
"Let’s go see it together."
"What?"
Ronan looked at him like he’d lost his mind. Yeah, he was going to go see it, but why was the person he knew least about in this school asking to go with him?
"I do not have any friends to go with," Kazuma explained. "I was told that the most efficient way to look normal is to go with a friend."
"So why are you asking me?"
"Because we are friends?"
Kazuma said it like he was telling him the sky was blue.
"When did that happen?" Ronan asked with a deadpan.
"What do you mean?" Kazuma asked, tilting his head. "Not only have we sat next to each other for two weeks straight, but we also had a prior encounter in the examination."
"You came and sat by me, not the other way around."
"I don’t believe the details are relevant."
Ronan stared at him like he’d lost his mind.
"Okay, fine, we can go together," Ronan said.
He planned on going anyway, so having Kazuma come with him wouldn’t hurt. And if Kazuma insisted on becoming his "friend," Ronan could take the chance to learn a little about him as well.
"Are you guys talking about the elective fair?"
Ronan and Kazuma both turned to the source of the voice.
"Elara Lockhart. Greetings."
"Um... greetings to you too." Elara looked weirded out by his formal greeting. "I’m also going... so I guess I’ll tag along."
She looked nervous while asking that, as if she expected them to shoo her away.
What type of event is this?
"You just don’t want to be seen alone," Ronan teased.
"What? No!"
"’Look at Elara, all alone. Does she even have any friends?’" Ronan mocked, imitating a random student. "’She can’t control her mana, and she can’t make friends. What can she do?"
"You bastard," Elara growled. "Do you think you’re any better? I’m saving you the embarrassment too."
"No need," Ronan smirked, and he wrapped his arm around Kazuma. "I have my best friend, Kazuma, here. How could I be lonely?"
"Best... friend?" Kazuma muttered under his breath.
Elara shot daggers at him, but it was interrupted by the sound of the teacher walking in.
"Take your seats," Vera said.
Ronan observed Vera. She was rude, biased, and had little patience. Students of the B class often asked how she even got hired as a professor.
From what he remembered, she wasn’t always like that. But that was before she started accepting blood from demons, making her worst traits come out.
Right now, no one knew, but she would only be a problem after the inter-class war.
Or maybe she won’t be a problem at all, he mused.
Ronan planned on using the inter-class war to greatly raise his strength. Right now, he was still at the mid stage of rank 1.
Many of the students in the freshman year were at rank 2 already, with Luca being secretly at rank 3, but hiding his power.
Aura was also at rank 3 currently, if we took into account her demonic energy.
Absolute powerhouses, Ronan thought. Most people didn’t reach rank 4 even after graduating the Academy, finding that rank 3 upper stage is their peak.
Positioning himself well and getting strong allies wasn’t enough. Soon, when that event happened, and the war broke out, powerful allies wouldn’t keep him alive.
The class ended quicker than usual, likely due to the elective fair that was happening.
When class ended, Elara came up to him and Kazuma. "Are you two ready?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Wow," Ronan said. "And here I thought I scared you away by showing you how unwanted you were."
"Shut up."
"Personally, I don’t mind Elara coming with us," Kazuma offered.
"Thank you, Kuzuma."
"My name is Kazuma, not Kuzuma."
"Yeah, yeah, same thing," Elara said, rolling her eyes. "What electives are you two planning to join?"
"I’m not sure," Ronan said. "Perhaps the Origami Club?"
"The Origami Club?" Elara put a hand over her mouth and tried (poorly) hiding her laughter. "Oh no, the heir of the big bad Ashbourne family is creasing paper in his free time. How devious."
"I plan on joining the weapons club," Kazuma said. "I am quite interested in seeing what weapons you people use. How about you, Elara Lockhart?"
You people? Was he talking about non-assassins? He was obviously socially awkward, so he wasn’t allowed to meet people his age growing up.
"I’m glad you asked," Elara grinned. "I will be joining the Archery club."
"Hmmm, you want to learn the bow?"
"Correction, I already know the bow."
"So you just want an ego boost."
Elara frowned. "Are you ever in a good mood?"
"I’m in a great mood."
The hall was massive, and thousands of freshman students were gathered. They were talking amongst each other and looking at the different stands for the different electives.
"Let’s go check that one out!" Elara yelled, pointing. The stand read Cooking Club.
"Maybe I should join this one," I muttered.
"What, Ashbourne? Don’t know how to cook?" Elara teased.
"I do. Just not well."
"I doubt you need a whole club for that," Elara said, nodding to herself in self-satisfaction. "I could just teach you."
Ronan paused. What was she implying?
He hadn’t read this about her, but after observing her for a few weeks, Ronan had come to a harrowing realization about the girl named Elara Lockhart in front of him.
"Elara..."
"Uh... yes?" Elara asked, caught off guard by his sudden serious tone.
"You didn’t have many friends growing up, did you?"
Elara’s expression cracked, and she turned red. "W-what? Of course I did, what are you talking about?"
Ronan put on an expression of false pity and grabbed her shoulder like she was a brother. "Don’t worry, Kazuma and I will be your friends."
"H-huh? I don’t need your pity, I have plenty of-" She paused. "Speaking of Kazuma, where is he?"
Kazuma was nowhere to be seen.
Ronan shrugged. "Maybe he went to check out that weapons club. Anyway, I have to go check out a club I’m interested in, so I’ll see you later, Elara."
"I’ll come with-" she stopped herself. "I-I mean, yeah, I can come with you if you like. You said we were friends after all, and I don’t want you to look like a loner."
Ronan sighed but didn’t argue.
The two of them silently walked through the crowd until Ronan finally saw what he was looking for.
Runic Arts Club.
However, there was only one person at the stand. She had long, blonde hair, and it looked like she was the reason no one was approaching. Everyone around her was giving her space.
"Isn’t that Princess Seraphina?" Elara muttered. "I didn’t know she was into runic arts."
"I didn’t either," Ronan lied. "Well, that’s the club I wanted to look at. Come on."
"What?" Elara asked. "Wait, Ronan, if you’re interested in that club, at least wait until the princess leaves."
But Ronan ignored her, walking towards the princess.
A choked gasp came from behind him.
"Ronan, wait."
