Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone
Chapter 708 - 468: Undead Cavalry Formed, Breaking through Bronze, Death Protection!
Fang Zhou had come to the Chiguo Plain this time to capture an Undead Mount, and from the beginning, he had no intention of using brute force. Only a fool would resort to blindly fighting and charging in.
After situating his main forces behind a large skeletal mound, Fang Zhou cautiously scouted ahead with Sain and several of his most powerful Corpse Knight Guards. Spotting a lone zombie bear, Sain swung his Flesh Bone Hook, snagging it squarely before yanking with all his might. Then, to Fang Zhou’s surprise, the unexpected happened. Sain failed to drag the zombie bear over as easily as he usually did.
Among all the Undead Fang Zhou possessed, not counting Olaf, Sain was undoubtedly the strongest. However, this zombie bear, despite being caught off guard by the ambush and getting dragged for a short distance, quickly stabilized itself. It dug its feet in and began pulling back in the opposite direction. Enraged by this, Sain refused to be embarrassed in front of his master and immediately exerted his full strength. Under the immense tension from both sides, the Flesh Bone Hook groaned mournfully.
No, this can’t drag on for too long, Fang Zhou thought. Otherwise, the other zombie bears will surely notice what’s happening. If they were to swarm us, our only choice would be to flee. Being chased by these huge creatures is no easy task!
Acting immediately, Fang Zhou ordered the Corpse Knight Guards to rush in with him. Together, they all grabbed onto the Blood and Bone Chain and started pulling it toward their position. Although the zombie bear’s strength was immense, even a hero can’t fight a crowd. This was especially true since Fang Zhou’s own Power Attribute far exceeded Sain’s, and with the help of several other Corpse Knights, the zombie bear had no chance of escape even if its strength were doubled. Fang Zhou’s only concern was Sain’s chain. It appeared rusty and didn’t look sturdy at all. He was genuinely worried that such immense force might snap the Blood and Bone Chain in half. This was a problem, as his primary tactic for capturing Undead Mounts depended on this very chain.
Fortunately, the rusty-looking chain held up. Although it creaked and groaned as if it might break at any moment, not a single crack appeared from start to finish. With Fang Zhou and the others working together, the zombie bear was swiftly dragged over, no matter how unwilling it was.
As soon as the zombie bear was pulled behind the earthen wall, before it could even comprehend what had happened, Sain shot forward. With a powerful kick of his feet, he leaped onto the zombie bear’s back. Feeling a rider on its back, the zombie bear went into a frenzy and began to struggle violently. It rolled and bucked, trying desperately to throw Sain off.
Subduing a mount and subjugating an undead are not the same concept. To subjugate an undead, one must seize a sliver of its Soul Fire to control it. Subduing a mount, however, requires one to make the opponent yield through sheer strength. Fortunately, on the way there, Sain had thoroughly learned this technique from Fang Zhou’s own Corpse Knight Guards.
However, the zombie bear’s body was simply too broad, making it difficult for Sain to grip its torso tightly. Moreover, its strength was incomparable to that of an ordinary Skeleton Warhorse. Left with no other choice, Sain clung tightly to the great bear’s neck to secure his position, determined not to be thrown off. At the same time, he frantically channeled his Soul Fire to suppress the creature’s actions.
Fang Zhou had made it crystal clear: there were no second chances when taming an Undead Mount. If the taming process began and failed, that Undead Beast could never be made to submit to that knight. More importantly, once a knight began the taming process, no one else could interfere. The slightest outside help would result in immediate failure. Taming a mount had to succeed in one go. Failure was absolute; the knight would either be killed by the frenzied Undead Beast or be forced to find another target.
Under Sain’s mental pressure, the zombie bear’s movements noticeably slowed. But soon, it began struggling frantically again, though its struggles seemed weaker than before. After about ten minutes of this back-and-forth, the zombie bear’s movements gradually ceased.
At that moment, a soul fluctuation emanated from the zombie bear. Sain was overjoyed. According to his master, Fang Zhou, this indicated that the mount had acknowledged him as its master and had officially become his Undead Mount. The elation of success instantly washed away all his fatigue. He urged his new mount to stand, testing its ability to carry him at a run. The zombie bear immediately broke into a slow gallop, and Sain rode it for a while longer before finally stopping.
Watching from the side, Fang Zhou was very satisfied with Sain’s new mount. A Bronze Middle-Rank zombie bear’s top speed surpassed even that of a Skeleton Warhorse. As for its strength, it was powerful enough to rival Sain, the Corrupt Hatred, and was therefore by no means weak. After all, Sain himself possessed the terrifying strength to drag several Skeleton Warhorses over without any hindrance.
