Unrivaled Soldier in the City
Chapter 545: Mu Wan’s Identity
"With your swordsmanship, I couldn’t have defeated you in three minutes, let alone five. You’ve passed," Lin Zhan said with a smile. "Also, welcome to Dragon Front. You’re one of us now."
With Lin Zhan’s strength, it was easy for him to gauge Lin Kuang’s true abilities. The fact that he couldn’t defeat Lin Kuang within three minutes was more than enough proof.
Hearing Lin Zhan’s words, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement. "Am I a member of Dragon Front now?"
"Correct, but for now, you’re just a provisional member," Lin Zhan said with a smile. "Every member of Dragon Front must complete one mission solo before they are officially inducted. You are no exception. You need to complete a mission, which will also serve as our test for you."
Lin Kuang was momentarily stunned, but he quickly nodded. "Okay, no problem. What’s the mission?"
"The mission is neither simple nor difficult. One of our agents is currently in Tokyo, working undercover as a spy. Her identity is on the verge of being exposed. The Island Country has grown suspicious, so your mission is to bring her home safely," Lin Zhan explained, looking at Lin Kuang.
"Oh? Is it that simple?" Lin Kuang asked, a little puzzled.
"It’s not quite that simple," Lin Zhan replied with a smile. "If you can make it back safely, that alone will prove you’re strong enough."
"Okay," Lin Kuang nodded. "I’ll take the mission. When do I start?"
"Immediately, if possible. The matter is quite urgent," Lin Zhan said.
"Alright, I’ll leave now," Lin Kuang said quickly.
"Good. Come with me. I’ll get you the file and arrange your transport to Tokyo," Lin Zhan instructed.
Lin Kuang nodded, and the three of them left the room. Lin Zhan led Lin Guodong and Lin Kuang to the file room, where he found a folder and handed it to Lin Kuang. "This contains our agent’s profile and her address. Take a look."
Lin Kuang took the folder and opened it. The first thing that caught his eye was a photograph of a young woman. The moment he saw it, he felt as if he’d been struck by lightning, frozen to the spot.
This person... she’s so familiar. No, not just familiar—incredibly familiar!
She was his childhood sweetheart, Mu Wan. His first love, the same woman who had supposedly died in the explosion at the military base in America!
A while ago, Lin Kuang had learned that Mu Wan wasn’t dead and was in Tokyo. But he never imagined that she was a member of Dragon Front, let alone that she was working undercover there. This was something he had never anticipated.
Seeing Lin Kuang’s shocked expression, Lin Zhan and Lin Guodong exchanged a subtle, knowing smile. Lin Zhan had deliberately arranged this mission to bring Lin Kuang and Mu Wan together. Mu Wan had faked her death to go undercover in Tokyo. As a member of Dragon Front, her movements were classified, especially for an undercover assignment. Such things could never be disclosed. Neither the Lin Family’s old master nor Lin Guodong had revealed the truth, as it was top-secret information.
Thus, Lin Kuang had been kept in the dark, which had become the root of the conflict with his family. Now that he was a member of Dragon Front, he naturally had the clearance to know about Mu Wan’s situation. Moreover, Mu Wan was now in real danger, making it the perfect time to send Lin Kuang to her. It was only natural that Lin Zhan would give him this file.
After the initial shock wore off, Lin Kuang took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down.
"Whew... I understand now," he said.
He finally understood why his grandfather and father had remained silent when he’d asked about Mu Wan’s fate. It was because she had joined Dragon Front! Lin Kuang knew full well that such matters were classified and couldn’t be disclosed, not even to one’s own family. The same rules would apply to him; on a mission, he could reveal nothing to his loved ones. At last, full understanding dawned, and his resentment toward his grandfather and father melted away, replaced by a profound sense of guilt.
"Alright, read the file," Lin Zhan said, breaking the silence.
Lin Kuang quickly nodded and began to carefully go through the documents. The file clearly stated that Mu Wan had assumed the identity of "Sherry Sakura" and had been working undercover inside the Island Country’s military, gathering intelligence. Now, she was under suspicion, and the Island Country’s military was investigating her. If any more time passed, her cover would undoubtedly be blown. If Mu Wan was exposed, the consequences would be more terrifying than death. After all, death can be a release, but a fate worse than death is the cruelest form of torture.
"Captain, I need to get to Tokyo. Now," Lin Kuang said, his voice grave as he looked at Lin Zhan.
"Alright, go. I’ll arrange a plane for you," Lin Zhan said. "But remember, do not expose your identity. If you are exposed, your only option is death, and you must never betray your country! Once you two have escaped, we have a contact in the Island Country who will meet you. They will arrange your trip back home. Here is their information."
With that, Lin Zhan handed another file to Lin Kuang.
Taking the file, Lin Kuang quickly memorized the address and contact information. "Captain, I’ve memorized it," he said.
"Good. Then leave now," Lin Zhan said, leading Lin Kuang and Lin Guodong out.
Exiting the underground Dragon Front facility, the three of them returned to the surface.
"Call this number when you get to the airport," Lin Zhan said, handing Lin Kuang a slip of paper. "He will arrange everything."
Lin Kuang took the note, glanced at it once, and then used his True Qi to instantly pulverize it into dust.
"Captain, General, I’ll take my leave," Lin Kuang said, looking at Lin Zhan and Lin Guodong.
"Go," Lin Zhan said earnestly, meeting his gaze. "I wish you a successful mission!"
"Yes, sir! I guarantee the mission’s completion!" Lin Kuang shouted, saluting sharply.
"Go," Lin Zhan repeated.
Lin Kuang nodded, then turned, got in his car, and drove away. Leaving the military district, Lin Kuang sped toward the airport. Now that he knew Mu Wan’s situation, he felt a desperate urge to fly to her side immediately. The feeling was indescribable.
Upon arriving at Yanjing Airport, Lin Kuang parked his car and dialed the number. A moment later, someone answered. "Colonel Lin, hello."
"I’ve arrived," Lin Kuang said flatly.
"Understood. Please wait a moment. I’m coming to get you," the man said before hanging up.
No more than five minutes later, a middle-aged man in a janitor’s uniform approached him. He didn’t speak, only giving Lin Kuang a meaningful glance.
Lin Kuang said nothing in return, simply following the man into the airport.
