Unrivaled Soldier in the City
Chapter 579: True Identity
"Really?" Mu Chengzhen asked in disbelief.
Lin Kuang smiled and nodded. "Of course it’s true. Why would I lie to you?"
"Great! I’ll go with my dad to the army tomorrow!" Mu Chengzhen declared excitedly.
"Yeah, go ahead," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
Mu Chengzhen nodded emphatically.
Just then, Mu Wan walked out from the doorway. She had changed into a light-blue long dress and was wearing a pair of crystal-like high-heeled sandals, looking quite elegant.
"Are you really my sister?" Mu Chengzhen asked, staring at the gentle and elegant woman before him in disbelief.
"Mu Chengzhen, get lost!" Mu Wan couldn’t help but shout, her face flushing red with anger.
At her words, Mu Chengzhen scurried away. Lin Kuang, meanwhile, took Mu Wan’s small hand, and the two of them walked outside.
Once in the car, Lin Kuang turned on the GPS and headed straight for West Lake. It was Hangcheng’s most famous landmark, after all. How could they visit the city and not see it?
"Lin Kuang, I’m afraid you’re in for some trouble," Mu Wan said, glancing at him with a helpless expression.
"What trouble? Are you talking about that Bai Longming?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile.
"Yes, him," Mu Wan confirmed.
"Oh? What’s his background?" Lin Kuang asked, clearly unconcerned about Bai Longming’s identity.
Seeing this, Mu Wan looked at Lin Kuang with a touch of frustration. This guy... he’s fearless in the face of anything. It’s exasperating. And yet, it was precisely this ’fierce’ personality of his that had attracted her.
"His father is the mayor of Hangcheng. Of course, that’s not the critical part for you; a mere city mayor can’t do anything to you. However, he also has a master, who is from an Ancient Martial Family. Those Bagua Steps he used were taught to him by his master, and his master is from the Dong Family of the Ancient Martial Realm. I’m not very clear on his exact status within the family."
Lin Kuang nodded along, but his expression grew solemn when she mentioned the Dong Family, an Ancient Martial Family. After all, every Ancient Martial Family represented a powerful force that not even he could ignore.
"An Ancient Martial Family, the Dong Family, hmm? Do you know how strong they are?" Lin Kuang asked, glancing at Mu Wan with a smile.
Mu Wan shook her head. "I’m not entirely sure, but they’re definitely not people you want to cross. No Ancient Martial Family should be underestimated."
"True," Lin Kuang said with a laugh. "But unless they’re one of the supremely powerful Ancient Martial Families, they’re not really a threat to me."
"You... can’t you be a little less arrogant?" Mu Wan said irritably, rolling her eyes at him.
"Is a little confidence not allowed?" he retorted. "Alright, don’t worry. I’ll check it out."
With that, Lin Kuang dialed Chen Feng from the Wumi Building. Lin Kuang and the Wumi Building were practically one entity now, so it was a simple matter to have them handle things. Chen Feng answered shortly, and Lin Kuang immediately asked about the Dong Family of the Ancient Martial Realm.
In the Wumi Building’s files, the information on Ancient Martial Families was updated daily, as these families were the greatest powers in their world. Chen Feng quickly relayed the details on the Dong Family to Lin Kuang.
"Oh, I see. The Dong Family’s strength is quite decent," Lin Kuang said with a smile, now having a clear picture of the situation.
"Mr. King of the Underworld, do you have a conflict with the Dong Family?" Chen Feng asked curiously.
"Yes. A disciple of a Dong Family member is named Bai Longming. I just taught him a lesson," Lin Kuang said with a smile, not bothering to hide anything.
"Bai Longming? You mean the Bai Longming from Hangcheng?" Chen Feng couldn’t help but ask.
Lin Kuang nodded. "Yes, that’s the one. Mr. Chen, are you very familiar with him?" he asked, a little surprised.
"I wouldn’t say I’m personally familiar with him, but our information on him is quite comprehensive. That’s because he isn’t actually a disciple of a Dong Family member!" Chen Feng said seriously.
Lin Kuang was taken aback. "Not a disciple? What do you mean?"
"Because Bai Longming is the illegitimate son of the Dong Family Head," Chen Feng explained, his tone extremely serious. "The only reason he’s in Hangcheng is because the Dong Family Head entrusted him to the care of the Bai Family here."
Lin Kuang was stunned. "What? He’s the Dong Family Head’s illegitimate son?" he asked in utter disbelief. This is absurd!
"That’s right. The Bai Family was willing to shelter Bai Longming because the Dong Family provides them with covert support. It is because of this relationship that the Bai Family adopted and raised him. Once Bai Longming came of age, he began training in martial arts under the Dong Family Head. This is an open secret among many families in the Ancient Martial Realm," Chen Feng continued from the other end of the line.
"Tsk tsk, how interesting. This world is truly a marvelous place," Lin Kuang said with a chuckle.
"Mr. King of the Underworld, while the Dong Family isn’t one of the most powerful in the Ancient Martial Realm, the Dong Family Head’s wife comes from a formidable background—the Nangong Family. As things stand, I wouldn’t recommend getting into a major conflict with the Dong Family. Of course, you won’t be in much danger from Bai Longming’s side. After all, he is the Family Head’s illegitimate son, and the head of the family would never dare tell his wife about him," Chen Feng added with a smile.
"Alright, I understand. Thank you, Mr. Chen."
"Mr. King of the Underworld, you’re being too polite. We’re family now," Chen Feng said respectfully.
"You’re right. Well, let’s leave it at that for now. We’ll talk again if something comes up. Oh, by the way, please keep an eye on things in East Sea for me. Let me know if anything happens," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"I will, Mr. King of the Underworld." With that, they ended the call.
"Wan’er, this is all quite interesting," Lin Kuang said with a smile, glancing at Mu Wan.
"Oh? What is it?" Mu Wan asked curiously.
Lin Kuang then recounted what Chen Feng had told him.
When Mu Wan learned Bai Longming’s true identity, she too was stunned, her beautiful eyes filled with disbelief. However, knowing the information came from the Wumi Building, she couldn’t dismiss it. She knew perfectly well what kind of organization the Wumi Building was—intelligence from them was never wrong.
"This... it really is hard to believe," Mu Wan murmured.
