Urban's Fury: The War Dragon God
Chapter 1786: Ghost-faced Death Soldiers
Li Feng wiped the cold sweat off his forehead. He was truly afraid that the Purple Bamboo Marquis would be completely unyielding, which would be a disaster.
With these three months, Li Feng believed that when he returned again, as long as the Purple Bamboo Marquis didn’t go all out, he still had a chance to withstand one sword from the opponent.
Anyway, he’s already riddled with debts; he doesn’t worry too much about more. He may not be able to do it now, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be able to in three months. Taking a breath, Li Feng directly stepped back onto the Bamboo Forest Avenue and then headed south.
Just moments after Li Feng left, another group of people came tracking after him.
This group all wore masks and martial attire, their bodies emanating an undisguised murderous aura.
"Commander, there are signs of battle here, and we’ve found a few corpses nearby."
A subordinate with a ghost mask emerged from one side of the bamboo forest, reporting to the commander sitting on the steed.
"Commander, based on our intelligence, before us, the Dragon Tiger Sect from the Ninth Ring also sent a squad of a hundred riders heading south, and these corpses in the bamboo forest should be the work of the Dragon Tiger Sect’s minions."
"I want Li Feng. Are there any signs of him?"
"Not found yet, but we’ve detected a strong remnant sword intent in the air. It seems other than the Dragon Tiger Sect, someone else engaged as well. Judging by the battle signs, Li Feng likely wasn’t killed but escaped."
"The earlier fire in the bamboo forest was probably related to Li Feng as well."
"Then why aren’t you chasing him?"
This ghost-faced commander was somewhat anxious. Li Feng had played a trick called Golden Cicada Shells in Ancestor Dragon City, which, although not deceiving the keen ones, still left some people caught off guard.
The Dragon Tiger Sect reacted quickly because they believed they had the advantage of local resources, with their spies everywhere in the Ninth Ring, even in the Tongfu Inn.
As for Zeng Xingtian, it was because the Zeng Family had a deep grudge against Li Feng. Zeng Xingtian even had people secretly watching Li Feng’s whereabouts. When Li Feng went to the Tongfu Inn, he hardly concealed himself, so they reacted the fastest.
By the time other families eager to claim the Vermilion Bird Bloodline from Li Feng realized, it was already the second day after Li Feng left. So even though this group hurried as fast as they could, they were still half a step behind.
"Yes."
Suddenly, the group leaped onto their steeds, ready to follow the traces, but before they could set off, a figure emerged from the bamboo forest, blocking their path.
The ghost-faced commander frowned, looking at the person blocking the road. He pulled the reins, causing his mount to rear up as he looked down at the drunkard drinking with his head raised.
"Looking for death."
The ghost-faced commander ordered his mount to step forward on its front hooves towards the opponent. Whether the person was innocent wasn’t a concern; they were Death Soldiers destined to kill.
Dare block their way, they would be killed simply for that.
However, before the mount’s front hooves landed, a section of bamboo suddenly shot up from the ground like a spear, piercing through the rearing mount’s stomach. Sensing something amiss, the ghost-faced commander leaped back in a flash, avoiding the misfortune.
Looking back at his mount, it had been skewered like candied fruit.
"Who are you?"
The ghost-faced commander coldly looked at the unrestrained man, and the other ghost-faced soldiers dismounted, surrounding him.
"You’re chasing someone named Li Feng?"
"So what if we are? Do you also want to snatch the Vermilion Bird Bloodline from him?" The ghost-faced commander laughed coldly, "Do you know what you’re getting into by trying to compete with us?"
"Good. Then you can’t kill him. He still owes me a sword, so if you have to kill him, I’ll have to kill you all."
"Haha, kill us?" The ghost-faced commander laughed coldly. He was in the Golden Core Late Stage, and all his subordinates were at least in the Early Stage nearing completion.
This is not an ordinary team of Death Soldiers; in Ancestor Dragon City, forming such a strong team required a family with at least a thousand years of heritage.
"Just you?"
"Kill him; we don’t have time to waste here."
The ghost-faced commander put away his smile, showing a murderous intent, and ordered his men to eliminate the hindrance.
"Ha, that kid just burned my bamboo forest, and I had nowhere to vent my anger. Since you all bumped into me, you can only blame your bad luck."
With that, the man raised his hand, and instantly a purple bamboo surged up and turned into a bamboo sword.
With a light and casual wave of the sword, there was no imposing aura nor any earth-shattering changes.
Only a gust of wind blew by, rustling through the bamboo forest. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
"In the grand dream, who’s first to awaken? In this life, I know myself... "
The Purple Bamboo Marquis raised the bamboo wine in his hand, turned swiftly, and gracefully left. Meanwhile, a blood line appeared on the necks of the previously shouting ghost-faced Death Soldiers.
Li Feng had no idea that the Purple Bamboo Marquis had helped block another wave of pursuers behind him. He ran crazily for a hundred miles until he saw the end of the bamboo forest opening up wide before him.
But just then, suddenly a shadow rushed out from the side of the bamboo forest and headed straight for him.
Li Feng looked up and swept his gaze over the approaching figure, feeling relieved. The shadow pounced on him—it was Thunder Tiger, who had escaped first, and beside him, Ran Yue emerged from the forest. Seeing Li Feng was unscathed, she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
Li Feng pushed away Thunder Tiger, who was like a big cat, and looked at Ran Yue, "I told you to run; why are you still hiding here?"
Ran Yue pouted and said, "Hmm, I’ve run this far, I’m not dragging you down, I just wanted to see if you could make it out alive, and if not, I would at least come to collect your body."
"What about Zeng Xingtian, did you get rid of him?"
Ran Yue glanced behind her.
Li Feng got up and looked at Ran Yue, "Hmm, do you think if he was alive, I could have shaken him off?"
"Then how did you escape?"
Ran Yue looked at Li Feng again. She hadn’t held much hope that Li Feng would survive; if she’d waited here for a day and Li Feng hadn’t come, she’d go back to collect his body. As for her safety, Li Feng was the real target, and they wouldn’t wait around just to kill her.
"I killed him, so naturally, no one chased me anymore," Li Feng said.
"You killed Zeng Xingtian?"
Ran Yue’s almond-shaped eyes widened. Before she fled, she’d seen Zeng Xingtian practically dissect Li Feng with one sword. If Li Feng hadn’t had the Vermilion Bird Undying Body, he might have been dead right there.
Zeng Xingtian was in the Golden Core Late Stage.
Yet he was killed?
That’s a whole grand tier difference.
"Hmm, alright, let’s quickly go to the town ahead to find two mounts, then head to the Zeng family estate to meet up."
Li Feng didn’t fuss much with Ran Yue. Who knew if more pursuers were behind them? Leaving the Purple Bamboo Forest, the only town in scale to the south was Southern Bamboo Town.
After that, Li Feng had to go to the pre-arranged meeting point, also part of the Zeng family’s territory, in the estate outside Ancestor Dragon City, which had been given away as half of their family property.
This estate is located south of the Purple Bamboo Forest. Though not barren, it’s quite desolate, with few people living along the way. Despite the estate being large, the population barely reached two or three hundred households, with barely over a thousand residents.
