Venerable Demon Chef
Chapter 271 - 268: Kill Until the Culprit Is Handed Over
"How arrogant!"
Zhongli’s words truly enraged the four ancestors.
If at first they had only wanted to capture Zhongli and hand him over to Mo Qi, now, killing intent had taken root in their hearts.
"Since you’re so eager to die, we’ll be happy to grant you your wish!" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
As their voices fell, a murderous aura spread up from below.
A powerful fluctuation of Energy erupted from the bottom of the canyon, far surpassing the Void Realm, and instantly locked onto Zhongli.
Zhongli was unfazed. He showed no trace of fear and instead burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! A Half-Immortal Level ultimate weapon? Did you think the Wolf Fang Sect was the only one who had one?"
A jade-green longsword appeared in his hand. With a slight tremble of the blade, the Energy that had locked onto him was forcibly repelled.
Clearly, this sword was no lower in level than the Wolf Fang Sect’s ultimate weapon.
The four ancestors were shocked at first, but then they all sneered.
"Zhongli, you junior! On your own, how many times can you possibly activate an ultimate weapon?"
Half-Immortal Level power was not something that could be wielded casually.
Take the Wolf Fang Sect, for example. Even with the four ancestors working together, aided by the Black Wolf Inner Core, the strain of activating their ultimate weapon was still immense.
If Zhongli was alone, he could activate it once or twice at most before his True Essence and Sea of Consciousness both ran dry.
At that point, he would be completely immobilized without the Wolf Fang Sect even having to lift a finger.
"One time is all I’ll need," Zhongli said confidently, standing tall with his sword.
"Hmph. Don’t choke on your words, you ignorant junior. Now, die!"
The four ancestors formed a Hand Seal, simultaneously biting the tips of their tongues and spraying their Essence Blood onto it.
"Activate!" the four of them roared. The Hand Seal combined and flew into the canyon.
HUMMM!
The earth trembled violently as a terrifyingly tyrannical Energy erupted forth. It coalesced into a gigantic spear that descended like an unstoppable rainbow of light, carrying an aura that stung the skin as it thrust horizontally toward Zhongli.
Zhongli’s smile vanished, his expression becoming incredibly grave.
Confidence did not mean carelessness. Against Half-Immortal Level power, the slightest misstep would lead to utter annihilation.
He pressed the flat of the blade to the spot between his eyebrows and poured his Divine Sense into it.
CLANG!
The sword’s cry rang out like thunder as its jade-green color rapidly deepened.
A surging, boundless power rose steadily, like a monstrous cyan wave sweeping up the Power of Heaven and Earth.
"Extreme Martial Cyan Wave Slash!"
Zhongli gripped the sword with both hands, raised it high above his head, and let out a furious roar.
In an instant, the sword’s afterimage, sharp as lightning, transformed into a colossal blade thousands of feet long and slashed down at the spear.
TING!
The piercing, ear-splitting shriek lingered on and on.
This was a duel between the sharp sword and the long spear. The moment they met, the world seemed to fall into a dead silence.
Even space itself stopped fluctuating, as if the scene had frozen in place.
But in the next second, a berserk Energy erupted from the point of impact, spreading in all directions like a beast uncaged.
RUMBLE!
The Wolf Fang Sect’s headquarters, already in ruins, had another thick layer of its surface scraped away by this energy. What was once a range of majestic, beautiful mountains was now a low-lying swamp filled with murky groundwater.
Zhang Shao and the others, who had already retreated far away, were still caught off guard by the shockwave.
Everyone was swept into the air by the Energy and thrown dozens of miles before they finally fell back to the ground.
Although no one died, countless Low-Tier Disciples were gravely injured, with who knows how many broken bones.
The experts from the Wuji Sect who had followed Zhongli weren’t faring much better. Their faces were all pale; clearly, they had also suffered from the considerable shockwave.
CLANG!
Another deafening crash rang out.
In the midst of the clash, the sword’s power suddenly surged to a new level, batting the spear aside and slashing down viciously.
PFFT—
The four ancestors at the center of the Energy were struck as if by a massive blow. They coughed up mouthfuls of blood and plummeted to the ground like kites with their strings cut.
"You..."
The four of them wore expressions of unwillingness, but their injuries were too severe for them to speak.
Their heads lolled to the side, and they all fainted.
Zhongli was covered in a cold sweat, blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, and his legs grew so weak that he nearly collapsed.
Although he had gained a slight advantage in the exchange, winning by half a move, he had also paid a hefty price.
"I said one move would be enough, and so I did not use a second!"
The corners of Zhongli’s mouth lifted into a triumphant smile.
He grabbed a handful of restorative Elixirs from his Storage Space and shoved them all into his mouth.
He was a cautious man. Even when the battle was decided, he would never allow himself to remain in a weakened state.
Dozens of miles away, Zhang Shao was dumbfounded. He never imagined that Zhongli could actually fight four against one and defeat the ancestors.
’Doesn’t this mean that Zhongli alone has the power to take on the entire Wolf Fang Sect?’
He had always believed that among the Four Great Sects, even if the Wolf Fang Sect wasn’t number one, it would never lose to any of the others.
But reality had just slapped him hard across the face.
"The Nangong Family! It must be the Nangong Family!" Zhang Shao quickly understood the key to the matter.
Zhongli had said that the Wuji Sect worked for the Nangong Family.
So, naturally, the Nangong Family wouldn’t treat them poorly.
Therefore, rather than saying the Wolf Fang Sect had lost to the Wuji Sect, it was more accurate to say they had lost to the Nangong Family.
’It’s not an unjust defeat!’
"Kill them! Start with the disciples in the Refining Essence Stage! Qi Refining, Refining Divine Being, Purity, Vajra, Void Realm, Void—kill them all in that order!"
"Kill anyone who dares to flee, without mercy!"
"Keep killing until they hand over the culprit!"
At Zhongli’s command, the experts from the Wuji Sect who had come with him swarmed out and began a bloody massacre of the Wolf Fang Sect disciples.
"Ah! This has nothing to do with us!"
"Sect Leader, save me!"
"I don’t want to die! Don’t kill me!"
"You animals! I’ll fight you to the death!"
For a time, screams, cries of sorrow, weeping, pleas for mercy, and curses filled the air, blending into a tragic dirge.
It was truly a scene of utter devastation, with rivers of blood.
Seeing this, Zhang Shao could only sigh helplessly.
In the face of absolute power, he, the Sect Leader, was nothing. He could do nothing.
Handing over Mo Qi and the others was impossible.
If he could trade the blood and lives of the Wolf Fang Sect’s thousands of disciples for Qin Daye’s favor in the future, Zhang Shao wouldn’t even bat an eye.
He felt not a shred of pity.
"Stop!"
Just then, an angry roar echoed out.
Jin Quan appeared, leading a force of over a thousand men.
Although he was utterly disappointed with the Wolf Fang Sect and had been taking his own revenge these past few days, the ones he killed were all from Zhang Shao’s faction—people who deserved to die.
They were all vile characters who couldn’t tell right from wrong, who fawned on the powerful, and who had once tried to assassinate him.
He thought he no longer had any feelings for the Wolf Fang Sect, but when he saw countless innocent disciples being brutally slaughtered, he couldn’t stop himself from stepping forward.
It had nothing to do with right or wrong, or with taking a side. It was simply because of the righteousness in his heart, the uneroded conscience that was his instinct as a human being!
"Zhang Shao, you call yourself a Sect Leader?!"
Jin Quan’s eyes were bloodshot with rage as he roared his question.
"You just stand by and watch as your sect’s members are slaughtered?!"
Zhang Shao’s expression turned extremely ugly.
He no longer cared about the life or death of the Wolf Fang Sect, nor did he care what the disciples and Elders below thought of him.
He could ignore the ridicule and mockery of anyone else, but Jin Quan was the sole exception.
