Chapter 55: Training in a simulated dungeon 1

Trevor felt a cold bead of sweat roll down his spine.

He stepped further into the room, closing the distance between him and his mother, his mind racing through a dozen different excuses.

He kept trying to guess what exactly the complain was about but each time he tried the more confused he got.

"Where have you been getting all the money you’ve been spending, Trevor?" Mia asked. Her voice wasn’t just serious; it was heavy with authority.

It was the tone she used right before a massive scolding.

"Well... just some minor jobs I’ve been doing on the side," Trevor said slowly. He forced himself to maintain eye contact, knowing that looking away would be a silent confession.

After all his mom was one to play mind game of he should as much as slip up she would tell he was lieing

Mia’s gaze lingered on him for a beat too long—a silent, searching look that felt like she was trying to peel back the layers of his skull to find the truth.

The silence stretched, thick and uncomfortable, until she finally let out a long, weary sigh of relief.

"Well, your boss at the bread factory called me yesterday," Mia said, her eyes softening into a look of pure worry.

"She said you’ve been skipping your night shifts. I just hope everything is alright, Trevor."

Trevor took a sharp breath, his mouth opening to spin a new thread of the lie, but Mia cut him short with a wave of her hand.

"If you want to resign, you should meet her formally and do so. That’s the respectful way to handle people who helped us when things were hard," she said, a small, tired smile gracing her lips.

"I wanted to ask what exactly this new job of yours is, the one you claim is a minor job but is still pulling in so much money, but I see you’re already on your way out. I won’t stress you with questions now." mia said shooting him a smile.

Trevor exhaled, the tension leaving his shoulders in a rush. "I understand, Mom. I’ll go meet her tomorrow night to explain things and resign properly."

Mia nodded, showing she was done and he could get going. After a quick exchange of pleasantries, Trevor stepped out of the house, his mind swirling.

He had completely forgotten about the bread factory. The owner mrs roseline had been a lifeline for them during their darkest days, and he felt a genuine pang of guilt for ghosting her. He resolved to make it right tomorrow.

As he stepped onto the pavement, he noticed a sleek car with deep-tinted windows parked right in front of the house.

It looked out of place in their modest neighborhood. As Trevor approached, the window glided down with a mechanical hum, revealing a man in a sharp black suit and signature dark glasses.

"Excuse me, gentleman. Are you Trevor?"

the man asked. His voice was smooth, practiced, and dripping with the kind of professional polish that only came from serving the ultra-elite.

"Yes, I am. Is there something I can help you with?" Trevor asked, his guard up.

"I was sent to collect you by Miss Caroline,"

the man replied, his tone remaining perfectly neutral. "I wanted to know if you are ready so we may proceed."

"Yes, I’m ready," Trevor said, reaching for the door handle before the driver could even step out to open it.

He slid into the plush leather interior, the scent of expensive car wax and air conditioning washing over him.

As the car pulled away, Trevor decided to make use of the travel time. He leaned back into the seat and mentally accessed the System Space.

It was time to expand his deck. After witnessing the Tyrants yesterday, he knew he couldn’t rely on luck or charms anymore. He needed a weapon.

He navigated to the card section, and did his normal daily card draw he had never been able to use the cards in his libary again since after getting the third card for free the system now demanded system points to unlock them.

But to make a good decision Trevor wanted to atleast get the card for Today first

> [CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE UNLOCKED: THE WEREWOLF CARD]

> Type: Combat Card

>Attributes: Enhanced Senses (Hearing/Smell), Drastic Strength Increase during combat generally possess the ability of a werewolve during battle.

> Passive:Most powerful during the night. Can be used to alert Harem members of imminent danger.

> Cost to Unlock:30 System Points.

Trevor stared at the description. A combat card—exactly what he had been praying for.

The "Werewolf" abilities were essentially a cheat code for raw physical power. The only thing that gave him pause was the "most powerful at Night" modifier.

He didn’t want a card that was useless during the day, but the sheer utility of the enhanced senses and the danger alert for his harem was too good to pass up.

He glanced through his library one last time to ensure he wasn’t overlooking something better, but the other locked cards seemed far less relevant to his current needs.

With a mental tap, he confirmed the purchase.

> [CONGRATULATIONS ON UNLOCKING THE WEREWOLF CARD. YOUR LUST ESSENCE HAS INCREASED BY 650.]

>

The notification chimed in his mind.

He closed the system space just as the car slowed to a crawl.

Looking up, he realized they were already pulling into the car park of the Roseman mansion.

He stepped out of the car, adjusting his Gucci hoodie, feeling confident.

To his surprise, Caroline didn’t wait for him at the door. She came walking toward him from across the pavement, her smile radiant and full of a strange, high-octane energy.

Before he could even greet her, she threw her arms around him in a tight, breathless hug.

"I have so much planned for us today, Trevor! Let’s get going already!" her voice beamed.

Trevor blinked, caught off guard by her excitement.

The "old" Caroline, the one from school before the System changed his life, hardly spoke a word to anyone unless she had to.

Even the arrogant Levi was usually treated with cold indifference. But this Caroline? She was glowing, her energy so intense it was as if she were on a permanent high.
