Chapter 14: Carrion Household
Half an hour later, Belva turned to Ray who was being carried by her mana.
"We have arrived." She informed him as they stood right outside the gate.
Within the gate stood two guards, who held an indifferent expression at their arrival.
However, the moment Belva approached the gates, the guards stared at them with a ferocious gaze.
"Put me down, Belva." Amidst the tension, Ray casually said.
Belva didn’t say a word and maneuvered her mana to put him down on the ground gently.
Once Ray landed on the ground, he walked slowly toward one of the guards.
When the guards remained motionless and kept their gazes on him, Ray snickered.
And with a raised hand, he gave them a resounding slap to the face.
SLAP!
"How dare you!" As soon as the slap landed, the other guard shouted in fury.
They were about to make a move, but were quickly suppressed by Belva.
"I don’t suggest you lay a hand on him." Belva ignored their expression and warned softly. "He’s the Lord’s adopted son, Raymond Carrion."
"Why bother introducing me?" Ray suddenly laughed and approached the immobilized guard.
Then, without another word, he gave the guard the same slap force.
In the blink of an eye, the two guards’ right cheeks were now bruised, leaving a dark red handprint.
They glanced at Ray in disbelief at his violent action just right outside the Marquis’ mansion.
"Still glaring?" Ray raised an eyebrow. He raised his hand up, seemingly ready to give them another slap.
The guards closed their eyes in silence. They didn’t dare to retaliate because of two factors.
One was Ray’s special identity, and the second was Belva’s presence.
Belva was able to suppress them to protect Ray. Therefore, even if they tried to resist, it would be a futile effort.
Moreover, they didn’t dare to actually harm Ray, lest they might anger the Marquis himself.
To infuriate the Marquis was no different than a death sentence.
Thankfully, their face was saved in time when a butler arrived at the scene.
"Young Master Raymond, the others are waiting anxiously for your arrival. Please head inside first." The butler dressed in a refined suit said in a mild tone.
"That’s Butler Alfred, the right-hand man for Marquis Robert," Belva whispered to Ray and subtly warned him not to behave rashly.
She didn’t stop him from hitting the guards because their status was insignificant.
However, Butler Alfred was different. Not even the Marquis’s children dared to slight him for no reason.
After all, what Alfred represented was not just butler status, but the Marquis’ words behind.
"So it’s Butler Alfred." Ray lowered his hand and turned to him. He flashed a warm smile and commented. "I was luckily chosen to be the adopted son of the Lord. If I let a few guards glare at me and do nothing, that would be an embarrassment and shame for the Carrion Household."
Butler Alfred bowed his head slightly in response. "When a guard fails to recognize their position, they are no different than wild dogs in the street."
The two guards flinched upon hearing the butler’s words.
"Wait, please spare—"
One of them tried to speak up, but it was already too late.
Butler Alfred casually waved his hand, and two bright crescent moons appeared.
Swoosh!
In a clean and fast sweep, the two guards’ heads rolled on the ground.
Their blood sprayed outward like a fountain of water.
Ray stood motionless on the spot. ’Fuck, I forgot this butler is one of those!’
Despite the outwardly refined-looking gentleman, this Alfred was actually a ruthless man. He would kill without batting an eyelid.
"Does that satisfy you, Young Master Raymond?" Alfred calmly patted his hand and inquired.
Belva was petrified and wondered if Ray was scared shitless. When she first witnessed the brutality of this place, she was also flabbergasted. It was hard for her to even make any movement, afraid of being the next victim.
And now that the same thing was happening to Ray.
’I should step in.’ She thought to herself.
Just when she was about to do so, Ray suddenly laughed wildly.
Besides laughing, he also began to clap loudly.
"Hahaha, amazing!" Ray clapped his hands repeatedly as he approached Butler Alfred. "I’m thoroughly satisfied with this result. The Carrion Household’s reputation can never be destroyed by others."
"That is correct." Alfred smiled amiably. He was pleased with Ray’s response and courage. Others would have long gone into shock if they witnessed this kind of scene without any warning.
Yet not only did Ray react without any changes, but he was even able to understand the reason behind his action.
Indeed, the two guards committed the sin by disrespecting the Carrion Household.
Marquis Robert personally handpicked Raymond as his adopted son. If anyone wanted to slight him, it could only be done by the Marquis or under the Marquis’ silent permission.
’The Lord’s decision is truly wise. Without this kind of demeanor, one shouldn’t even dream about setting foot inside the Carrion Household.’ Alfred secretly evaluated Ray to report to the Marquis later on.
"Please follow me, Young Master Raymond." Alfred turned around.
"You can just call me Ray," Ray said coolly and began following him.
"Yes, Young Master Ray."
While the trio began walking inside, the corpses of the guards were soon approached by some ferocious dogs. These dogs weren’t the average kind that you have as a household pet. Instead, they were demonic and exuded a murderous aura.
They quickly munched on their meal and didn’t even let any blood get away either.
Shortly after the dogs finished their meal, they promptly returned to their habitat.
In the meantime, two more guards arrived to take over the position.
Their faces didn’t even change slightly despite knowing their peers had been brutally killed.
"Those two sure were dumb enough." One of them commented.
"They’re new guards for a reason, unlike us." The other guard snickered.
The Carrion Household operated on a contribution and value basis. Those who couldn’t would be no different than waste.
The two guards’ deaths could only be blamed on themselves for not being clever enough.
