Chapter 257: My Isekai Life: Stepping through a magic door to have a Coffee date with a Goddess
"Wait... Bring me here? You didn’t bring me here, I-" Belladonna started to say through the pain, before the Goddess interrupted her.
"Stepped through a door? Yes, yes you did. But who do you think put that door there? A door that would not open, and that one had to willingly step through to get here? Although, not like I didn’t know you would try it.
The right line, something to peak your curiosity and remind you of something else. You have heard of the Illusion of choice, have you not?" The Goddess said with a giddy smile, as she leaned forwards in her chair and leaned on the table.
Cackling to herself, the Goddess-
"Okay, stop it! I can’t take it anymore!" The Goddess suddenly blurted out, before growling again and glaring at her surroundings, leaving Belladonna utterly confused.
"W-what? Did I do something wrong?" Belladonna stammered as she stared at the Goddess in a mixture of fear and confusion, especially as she just screamed and clutched at her head again.
"I’m not talking to you." The Goddess, who grumbled again and swept her eyes randomly over her surroundings, barked at Belladonna before pausing and whipping her head towards her.
"Actually, Yes I am! Listen, I know you are trying to be respectful, and that is sweet and understandable. But I told you my name, so that you would use it. So use it, because when you don’t and you think about me, He goes to the default.
Between the two of you, it’s just Goddess this and Goddess that echoing in my mind over and over, in two different voices. It’s irritating. So... What is my name?"
"S-sylvi?" Belladonna stuttered, feeling even more confused than when this all started.
"Good, Good." She replied with a sigh of relief, before standing up, the speed of which launched her chair across the room as she shouted to the sky in rage,
"You hear that?! Scribble that down! Sylvi! Sylvi Sylvi Sylvi!" She shouted, looking like she was utterly insane, which fitted her outfit of looking like a dirty homeless woman.
"What did you say about me!?" The crazy woman Sylvi screamed again, before huffing in annoyance and plopping down into her chair, which was perfectly underneath her despite being thrown from her tantrum.
"This is a hollow victory." Sylvi muttered, lifting a drink that did not previously exist to her lips and sipping at it sombrely.
"I... I have no idea what is going on." Belladonna muttered, as she gripped the table like her life depended on it. Just the ability to hold onto something solid was really doing a lot for her at the moment, even if there was the heavy possibility that somehow this solid thing was in fact not real and was somehow an illusion. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
But she chose not to think about that because it made her head hurt even more.
"If I tried to explain it to you, you’d simply go insane even faster, and I can’t deal with that today. You have the right idea though," Sylvi muttered, "Don’t think, just accept. The more you try to rationalise the more the thread will unravel, and you will never catch the end. That goes for all of us. Just accept it and don’t think about it.
Now... where was I?"
"The door..."
"Ah right, the door. Thank you." Sylvi said with a smile, as she leaned back again, seemingly having forgotten about what had her annoyed mere moments ago.
"You might have found my door, but that is not a hard feat. I have doors all over the place. I leave them wherever I wander, so I have a nice way to get back there. Some are hidden, some are obvious. Some are even normal doors that you use in everyday life. Hehe, I even put one on an outhouse and had someone come in here with their pants down."
She cackled to herself at her own devilry, however Belladonna was a bit too occupied with keeping her grip on reality, which was the name she was giving the table, to appreciate a good bit of potty humour. Literally.
Sylvi sighed and moved her head as if she was rolling her eyes before continuing,
"Anyways, finding them is easy. Using them is another case. They only work for those I actively want to come here, those who interest me. So even if you had stepped through that door, if I didn’t want to bring you here, you wouldn’t be here.
You would be sitting on that cave floor with a headache, instead you are sitting here basking in my glory... with a headache."
Belladonna winced at the mention of headaches, as it just made her mind throb even more, as thinking about it in this realm was not a good idea. When thoughts could make reality, thinking about how much pain you were in only made it more painful.
It was a vicious cycle.
"You... haven’t explained... why I’m here..." Belladonna grunted through her teeth, which she was gritting so tight that they were getting ready to shatter.
"Isn’t that part obvious?" Sylvi said with a mischievous smile, as she shifted forwards and leaned on the table, resting her hands in her head.
"You interest me. After all, you invoked my brother to discuss some very interesting things. He is terrible for secrets by the way. Never tell a man who can’t lie a secret, especially that man. But all those tales of alternate futures and mysteries, it annoyed him greatly and that did put a smile on my face." Sylvi chuckled wickedly, as her smile extended even wider.
"W-what? You... but we didn’t..." Belladonna stuttered, before Sylvi interrupted with a another laugh.
"Didn’t what? Say his name? Perhaps not, but you invoked truth, and that is what my brother is all about. Dear, we have been curious about the Graceless since you first arrived in this world.
Did you think that a new people could just sprout up, go against our natural order, gain incredible power at outstanding speeds, and the Gods wouldn’t notice?"
