Chapter 287: Sisters

Wiping out the rest of the Demons guarding the door was little more than child’s-play. A few swipes of her claws, a bat of her wings. It was pathetic how easy it was. She easily finished them off before her transformation wore off, which was good, because as soon as it did Belladonna nearly fell flat on her face.

Her new body cracked as her bones shattered inside of her, and started to pull themselves back together into the arrangement of something closer to a human skeleton. Her wings pulled themselves in, pressing tight against her back, as her teeth retreated back into her skull.

The skin-suit of Belladonna grew back, rapidly covering her monstrous self, and her armour sprouted from her skin in a reverse of its previous melting process until she was standing good as new in front of the colossal door like nothing ever happened. Her hair even had a glistening shine to it, despite having fallen out moments earlier.

Belladonna stumbled back a few steps, swaying heavily as she clutched at her head, which felt like it was filled with helium and was ready to float off of her shoulders. She blinked a few times, trying to rid herself of the feeling, before stumbling her way over to a nearby wall and leaning on it as she panted heavily.

Although she had done very little, and had been having quite an easy time of it all, Belladonna felt as if she had ran the length of a marathon with a leech in her arm, suckling away at her blood the entire time.

Her lungs burned, her legs were complete jelly, and her face was paler than it usually was. It was only when Saige rushed over and started to use his glowing hands on her, that she gradually started to regain her strength. However even with all of the healing, Belladonna returned to around 50% of her strength at max and the colour didn’t return to her face.

"That was pretty intense. Are you okay?" Lilith asked with a soft smile, putting a hand on Belladonna’s shoulder and keeping her upright as she still occasionally wobbled.

"Yeah... Yeah, I’m good. It was a hell of a rush, no wonder it’s got such a drop afterwards. Still... Better to know that now than when it would kill me. I can still fight, but I might need you to carry my slack for a bit until I recover."

"No worries! It might be only in law, but that’s what big sisters are for!" Lilith said with a laugh, before slapping her hand against Belladonna’s back hard enough for her back to pop in a few places.

She stumbled forwards, nearly losing her balance, before Lilith’s hands shot to her face in surprise and she let out a sharp gasp.

"Oh my god! I’m a big sister now... I didn’t even realise that. I’ve never been a big sister before! Well... I have a younger brother, but that doesn’t count. That’s totally not the same as having a younger sister, right?" She said excitedly, glancing down to Belladonna only to frown when there was no one there.

She whipped her head around in confusion, before letting her eyes drift to the ground, where Belladonna was laying face down in a pile of Volcanic dirt. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"Yeah, it’sh going to be great." She said into the dirt, her voice muffled by its warm embrace, as she gave a supportive thumbs up.

Moving through the large door and the twisting tunnel behind that door, led the party to the second floor of the dungeon.

It was rather similar to the first, in that it was filled with lava and demons to get in their way, with only a few key differences.

For one, there was more lava pools, which increased the heat they were experiencing. It was still nothing to worry about at the moment, as they still had their fire resistance potions brewed by Figg, but the increase in the ambient heat actually started to eat away at the efficiency of those potions.

If this was a true MMO, it would have been shown by a debuff that makes their potions drain roughly 10% faster. So, for example, a potion that lasted for 10 minutes would be reduced down to lasting for 9 minutes.

Not a big deal at the moment, but that effect would stack up the deeper they went, with every increase being an additional 10%. That meant that on the sixth floor, the deepest players had delved, their potions were working at 50% efficiency, meaning they were burning through them twice as fast.

Other than that, the population of the Demons slightly changed. Eye-Spies and Lizard-hybrids - Nicknamed Rexies - became just as frequent as each other, and you would always find them in every group. whilst the six armed demons - Nicknamed Roiders - took the Rexies place as the occasional ’elites’ within the group.

Although Belladonna had utterly annihalated the Roider the first time they had met one, they were surprisingly toughed when you were also not Roided out on an ancient and powerful transformation.

It resulted in Lilith taking over and having a few wrestling matches with them. However thanks to Vestra, their party did not struggle for lack of a tank, as she could simply create even more.

The Illusionary Lilith’s weren’t nearly as good as the original, and their skills and aura were rather lacklustre, however Vestra made up for that with numbers that confused their enemies long enough for them to take them out.

The strangest part of it was, that despite the massive amount of effort required to sustain the illusions, Vestra kept volunteering to create them, even on a few occasions that they weren’t totally necessary. However considering that she kept consulting her new storybook in between those fights, it was clear that it was for reasons more than ego.

Better yet, the more that she used them, the more that they became realistic. Not just in terms of matching Lilith’s aura levels, but also in their solidity. The enemies attacks would actually be blocked by the Illusions, and even enemies themselves found themselves bouncing off of them on occasion.

The Illusions were not perfect, there were still a few errors or instances of things ignoring them, which was especially clear with the more intelligent Rexies, however she was still growing.

However there was one thing that this floor had that the first did not, and that was the signs of loot. Not the loot that was collected from the dead, but loot that had been hidden within the dungeon, waiting for the right person to stumble across it.
