Chapter 38: Polly’s background

’’First, let me introduce myself. Jack Fairchild.’’ Jack smiled.

Vyral nodded.

’’Vyral Carlson.’’

Jack raised a brow in surprise.

’’Carlson? That sounds familiar. Are you related to old man Polly Carlson?’’

Vyral offered no answer.

Jack shrugged.

’’Polly was once an employee of SIS Corporation. But after he accidentally spilled a cup of coffee on my pants. I used my influence to get him fired. Do you think that was too much?’’

He chuckled, struggling to hide his smile.

’’I should’ve killed him instead of expelling him from the City. As soon as he came back with that trash, he committed another crime. Well, quite ironic.’’

Vyral blinked several times before replying. His voice was perfectly calm, yet there was a sharpness behind it, as if it could kill someone.

’’If you’re trying to piss me off, then congratulations.’’

Jack grinned before transforming into his werewolf form. He became much taller, his back hunching backward. His tongue grew longer, wiggling in amusement as if eager to savor every bite of the goblin’s flesh.

Meanwhile, the goblin was nothing more than a slender shorty, looking completely out of place against the powerful, feral monster standing before him.

Vyral fell into a defensive stance, carefully studying the werewolf’s every movement to find the best possible response. Yet, Jack was simply too fast.

Just half a second later, Jack vanished from his spot and reappeared in front of Vyral. He smirked before driving a brutal kick into Vyral’s stomach, sending him skidding across the ground like a ragged doll.

Everyone in the stands began to chatter among themselves. Most of them looked bored and disappointed. They never thought the battle would turn out to be this boring.

’Weak.’’ Jack spat in disdain.

Yet, his expression quickly shifted from contempt to surprise when Vyral got back up as if nothing had happened. Vyral’s stance remained firm, and there wasn’t the slightest grimace of pain on his face, as though Jack’s blow had been nothing more than a light caress on the cheek.

Vyral frowned. He had thought he could catch Jack’s kick in time, but no – he had barely perceived the kick coming. Indeed, Jack’s speed was simply too fast, even surpassing his expectations. He quickly opened the evolution and upgrade lists for [Heightened Senses] and [Swordmaster’s Sense].

Jack continued unleashing a series of kicks at Vyral, yet this time, Vyral could track them, unlike before.

He used his arms to block the relentless blows. Even so, his eyes remained sharp as he calmly studied Jack.

Jack clenched his jaw in irritation at Vyral’s resilience, especially when he heard the discussions from the stands.

People were beginning to doubt him.

’’Maybe a corporation brat isn’t as strong as we thought. He’s just like us. He’s trash too.’’

Gerald, standing among the audience, roared with laughter.

Veins bulged across Jack’s forehead as he began to pressure Vyral even harder with a taekwondo style that was a variation from a parallel world. Combined with his claws, he easily left numerous bleeding cuts across Vyral’s arms.

In his final movement, he cast wind magic around his legs, coating them in razor-sharp wind blades.

’’I’ll cut your arms off, you little shit.’’

Immediately, he swung a sneaky backward kick, releasing a wind blade that struck Vyral’s arms.

Vyral roared in pure agony as both arms were nearly severed, hanging only by the remaining flesh at the stumps while blood poured onto the ground. Yet beneath those painful roars was a hint of amusement, even madness.

’’A-Are you crazy?’’ Jack grimaced at the sight of Vyral’s creepy expression. To him, Vyral was nothing but a psychopath who seemed to enjoy pain.

Vyral gasped for breath as a wicked smile spread across his pale face.

’’So, this is my limit... You can cut steel, but can you do the same to Adamantium?’’

’’I choose you.’’

A series of new basic evolutions appeared.

Vyral chuckled as he looked at his fully restored arms.

Jack widened his eyes in disbelief. He even blinked several times, pressing his eyelids together to make sure what he had just seen was real.

He groaned in irritation.

’’You have high-tier healing magic?’’

He used to know the level of regeneration Vyral had. That kind of magic only existed among the cleric healers of the cathedral. It was a rare class, usually found only in ancient races like elves, angels, etc. But he never thought a goblin could use it.

’’What an absurdity... unless... you’re an exception like the master of the Phoenix Guild?’’

Vyral smirked.

’Magic? I’ll show you what real magic is.’’

Without hesitation, Vyral used 70% of his mana.

[Mana]: 90% → 20%
