Warhammer Divine Throne
Chapter 991 - 433: Undead Alliance
PS: Here’s the second update for today! I’ve pushed myself to the limit to write another Chapter, where are your votes?
The interactions and negotiations between the undead are always filled with pain and deceit, as well as cunning. Normally, no Vampire Count or Undead Mage trusts anyone else; surviving and growing powerful amidst betrayal and lies is the survival rule of the undead.
Historically, betrayal and conspiracy between Undead Mages and Vampire Counts are as simple as eating or drinking. Every Undead Lord is an ambitious person, ready to abandon allies or break treaties at any moment. This group of untrustworthy people always keeps an eye on others’ weaknesses, figuring out ways to capture their allies’ power for themselves.
However, in the current situation, both the newly recovered Heinrich Kemler and the repeatedly unsuccessful Mathew Bade have keenly realized their need and reason to form an alliance.
Mathew Bade differs from his godfather Akhan; he is a powerful warrior rather than an excellent wizard. Although he does understand some vampire spells, the gap between him and Akhan is vast, like heaven and earth.
After multiple wars and several failed plots, Mathew Bade’s situation in Brittania has become extremely dire. If the Knightly Army attacks Musillon, the Duke of Musillon, who had most of his forces taken by Akhan, has no ability to leave the city and fight the Knightly Army in open battle and can only shut the gates and defend.
This path leads to slow death, and Mathew Bade knows he must seek change.
The Undead Grand Mage Heinrich Kemler, hiding within the Black Stone Stronghold, naturally becomes Mathew Bade’s ideal alliable target. Mathew Bade, of course, knows about Kemler’s grievances with the Duke of Winford’s Family and his multiple attacks on La-Mesnil Abbey.
The existence of the Staff of Nagash is no secret. It is not only Kemler’s goal but also Mathew Bade’s. It is one of several tasks Witch Demon King Akhan left for Mathew Bade. Akhan did not require Mathew Bade to retake the Staff of Nagash amidst a legion led by a Holy Grail Knight, only requiring that Mathew Bade ensures the Staff of Nagash is not taken by others.
This is Mathew Bade’s reason for extending an olive branch to Kemler; whether the Undead Grand Mage will respond, there’s no harm in trying.
As for Kemler, the Undead Grand Mage also has reasons to ally with Mathew Bade.
Ideally, from Kemler’s perspective, after regaining strength he should lay low, wait for the opportunity, secretly corrupt Brittania’s eastern border, build strength, wait for the Knight Kingdom to weaken, and complete revenge in one fell swoop by completely destroying La-Mesnil Abbey’s defenses to seize the Staff of Nagash.
Time is no issue for such an Undead Mage; his life is long enough, and he has ample time to plan. The Black Stone Stronghold’s defenses are extremely sturdy; those knights can’t even transport their catapults in front of it. Taking the fortress is merely a fantasy.
However, Kemler also has his problems.
Firstly, it’s no secret that Laine and Francois have invited the Dwarf Angland Clan to form a large Alliance Army to attack the Black Stone Stronghold. Such large-scale troop movements and material preparations can’t escape the Vampire’s notice. Kemler knows Francois is preparing for revenge, and the Dwarves’ heavy artillery is not like catapults; they are notorious siege weapons.
Secondly, Kemler cannot afford lengthy scheming and slowly replenishing forces. From the moment he accepted the Chaos Four Gods’ covenant, the moment he gained control over Guer and those Undead Chaos Chosen Warriors, he was destined to constantly please the Chaos Four Gods through slaughter and destruction. Otherwise, the Evil God could reclaim its power at any moment and abandon him; the God of Darkness’ patience is extremely limited.
He too must take action.
The Ancient Tomb Legion is no longer on par with when he first entered Brittania for a decisive battle with Francois, or when he entered Brittania through Aisloron for the second time. When Kemler entered the Aisloron Forest for the second time, the Wood Elf Army could not defeat him and had to awaken the Divine Sword Tree King Dursu and seek reinforcement from Brittania. The Lake Fairy Oracle dispatched a squad of Holy Grail Knights leading a large group of knights and elves, and the tree spirits formed a massive alliance called "Nature’s Fury" and defeated Kemler.
Spanning over a decade, Kemler existed in madness and now urgently needs reinforcements.
When Kemler needs Mathew Bade, and Mathew Bade needs Kemler, the alliance of these two Undead Generals fell into place.
To show respect to Kemler, the underpowered Mathew Bade led a few Black Chalice Knights, two Vampire Lords, and a Corpse Demon King through the Duchies of Bastogne and Montfort, reaching the foot of the Gray Mountain Range, and arranged to meet Kemler in a deserted noble villa.
The villa, located at the foot of the Gray Mountain Range, was once a holiday villa of a knightly noble, now abandoned for many years. Undying Creatures constantly roam here, and at night, undead have been observed moving around the villa multiple times. Villagers regard this place as forbidden, leaving many terrifying legends.
