"You should eat a little something first," he coaxed. "I called our mom. As soon as she heard you fainted and were hospitalized, she immediately took a few days off to come take care of you and help you recover."

Zhu Yun opened her mouth, and he fed her a spoonful of the warm, sweet rice porridge. After a few spoonfuls, her stomach was soothed and settled, no longer making its presence known.

As she ate, she processed the information. After she finished, her eyes suddenly widened, and she placed a hand on her stomach in disbelief.

’I’m pregnant?’

’With Chu Shenyu’s baby?’

’And three months along, at that.’ She glared at Chu Shenyu and whispered in his ear, "You’re clearly the one who’s not paying attention to me. How could you not know I was pregnant?"

’Talk about shifting the blame! That’s my wife for you.’

Chu Shenyu pinched her chubby cheek. "You’re the one who said your health was poor and your period was always irregular. Besides, you had some spotting last month. How was I supposed to know you were pregnant?"

"No wonder you’ve been so sleepy lately, with such a big appetite, and getting moody from time to time."

Zhu Yun looked from side to side. "No, I haven’t."

"Who was it just now that opened her eyes, didn’t see me, and started crying until she could barely breathe?" Chu Shenyu teased her quietly, amused.

She bared her teeth and put her hands on her hips. "I already told you, it was a nightmare! It wasn’t because I didn’t see you."

Her voice trailed off by the end. Looking at the man’s handsome face, filled with a doting smile, Zhu Yun’s eyes started to well up again.

Chu Shenyu’s heart softened at the sight. He ruffled her hair and caressed her cheek.

The young couple’s sappy display made the old lady nearby cringe.

Zhu Yun was fine. After drinking some rice porridge, she was full of energy again and insisted she didn’t want to stay in the hospital any longer.

The ward was mostly filled with pregnant women or new mothers. The doors and windows were always shut tight, and the room had a faintly fishy, foul smell. The intermittent crying of babies was enough to drive anyone mad.

Seeing that she was truly insistent, Chu Shenyu quickly packed their things and took her to handle the discharge procedures.

The moment they got home, she started banging on the door across the hall.

It was noon. Although Wang Xianbing and Lin Jin were still in the middle of a cold war, Lin Jin was pregnant, after all, and her family lived in the city.

Wang Xianbing brought her meals on time, every time, though the portions were a bit smaller.

Right then, the two of them were inside. One was picking at her rice, counting the grains as she ate, while the other was reading the newspaper with a cold expression.

Zhu Yun had already seen them through the Teletubbies. When it was clear they had no intention of opening the door, a glint flashed in her eyes.

With a slight exertion of force, the metal plate connecting the wooden door to its frame twisted. The lock became useless along with it, and with a loud BANG, the door came crashing down.

The noise was so loud that many neighbors who heard it opened their doors and came running, some in such a hurry that they lost a shoe.

Zhu Yun looked at her fist in feigned confusion. ’This incredible strength really is awesome,’ she thought.

Then, her face filled with indignation. "Aha! So you two are schemers after all. I was standing here knocking for ages and no one answered. I thought no one was home, but you two were just sitting in here, taking your sweet time!"

"Lin Jin, what was with this morning? You thought you could use your pregnancy to frame me, didn’t you?"

"You’re not the only one who’s pregnant!"

"It’s a good thing my husband was there. If I had fallen down the stairs and something had happened, could you have taken responsibility for that?"

"You’re not much to look at, so why is your heart so ugly too?"

Lin Jin’s face was deathly pale, and she pressed her lips into a thin line. "Zhu Yun, I’ve already tolerated so much from you. Why must you still be so aggressive?"

"Who saw what you’re talking about? Your husband will naturally take your side. You really have the gall to make up such lies."

"With a belly this big, wouldn’t I give you a wide berth? Why on earth would I risk my life to run into you? And are you the type to just stand there and let me run into you?"

Zhu Yun sneered and raised an eyebrow. "When it comes to twisting black and white, I’ve never been impressed by anyone, but you? You take the cake!"

"This isn’t over between us." With that, she turned to go back to her apartment. As she closed her own door, she added with a light laugh, "Your door is such poor quality. I guess it was so disgusted by a malicious owner like you that it committed suicide on the spot."

"Couldn’t lay a finger on a delicate pregnant woman like me, though."

When the onlookers heard this, their eyes, now practically gossip radars, darted from one person to the next. They smiled and congratulated Chu Shenyu and Zhu Yun.

Wang Xianbing stood up and said coldly, "I’ll find someone to fix the door."

Lin Jin bit her lip. "You don’t believe me either? In your eyes, am I really that venomous and cruel?"

"So, you regret not ending up with Zhu Yun as a real couple, and now I’m just a burden to you with this pregnancy?"

Wang Xianbing took a deep breath. "Lin Jin, the problems between us have never been because of other people."

"You should think about that yourself. Work is going to be busy for the next few days. I’ll have Jingjing bring you your meals."
