When the Serial Killer Next Door Gained Harem System - Chapter 27: Classes Tomorrow
I pulled the glove from my pocket, turned it over in my hands, and with a shaky breath slowly slid it on. Nothing happened. No electricity, no pain. It felt like any ordinary fingerless glove, soft black leather, surprisingly comfortable.
"Good." Professor Kroua’s shoulders relaxed a fraction. "Normally, the test would determine which class every student would attend."
"Oh... how does that work, ma’am?"
"Each ring has its own levels that we can read from the energy it radiates," she explained. "Your mark, however... I have never seen anything like it. This academy has never had a student blessed by the Goddess Ambly before. And considering your past, how you were forbidden to use magic... I’m afraid I have to assign you to F-class for now."
"That’s fine," I said quickly, forcing a small smile. "I’m just here so I don’t get thrown into a dungeon for skipping school."
"Mm. Not upset at all?"
"I’m not." I shook my head. "Um... where’s the F-class, ma’am?"
"This floor. When you leave my office, take the path to the left of the elder tree and walk straight. You’ll see the classroom on the left side."
"Alright." I nodded. "Thank you, ma’am."
"Before you go there," she added, "visit Mr. Marble. He would like to speak with you."
"Right." I stood up and gave a small bow. "Thanks for all the information, Professor Kroua."
"Mm." She hummed. "Now go. Don’t make Mr. Marble wait any longer."
I gave another quick nod and stepped out of the room. The elder tree greeted me once again, its glowing leaves rustling softly overhead.
Damn. This was getting more complicated by the second. I now had to talk to the headmaster again? Just how powerful was Ambly? And if she was really that strong... what about her daughter? Was Kara some kind of lesser deity? Fuck... just what in the hell had I gotten myself tangled up in?
I climbed the stairs back to the second floor, my boots echoing softly on the stone steps. A few students who had been lingering in the hallway turned to look at me. Their eyes quickly dropped to the black glove now on my left hand. Whispers broke out immediately.
"Is that the guy Ambly blessed?"
"Goddess of Lust... hasn’t happened in decades..."
"Why him?"
I kept my head down and walked faster until I stood in front of Mr. Marble’s door. Taking a deep breath to steady myself, I raised my hand and knocked.
A few seconds later, a calm voice answered from inside. "Come in."
I pushed the door open and stepped into the room. Mr. Marble was standing in front of the large window, his back turned to me, hands clasped behind him as he looked out over the courtyard.
I closed the door quietly behind me. Without turning around, Mr. Marble pointed toward one of the empty chairs in front of his desk.
I walked over and sat down. Only then did he turn, move to his chair, and settle into it. He placed his elbows on the desk and linked his fingers together, studying me with a measured gaze.
"Mr. Walker," he began. "I heard you were blessed by Goddess Ambly. Is that correct?"
"I, uh... it seems so, sir," I replied. "That came as a surprise for me, too."
"This is a first in our academy," he said evenly. "And it is a somewhat important matter. The Queen should be notified."
"Oh... there’s really no need," I said quickly, raising both hands. "Really, sir. I’d like to keep things to myself."
"Let alone the academy, Mr. Walker, you are the only one blessed by Goddess Ambly, bless her name, in this entire kingdom. This is important. The Queen needs to be informed."
"Can we just... not?"
"Why not?" He cocked an eyebrow. "Why would you not want that? You would receive recognition from Her Highness. Perhaps even some rewards."
"I just... I mean, she is the Queen of the kingdom, right?" I shrugged. "I’m sure she has far more important matters than me, an F-class student."
"Oh... you were assigned to F-class, huh?" He leaned back slightly. "Professor Kroua told me you were forbidden from using any form of magic by your village chief. Such barbaric thinking. What a pity."
"Y-yeah..." I muttered. "I’d still prefer to keep this hidden from people, if we could, Mr. Marble."
"No can do, Mr. Walker." He shook his head firmly. "Now, take the rest of today off. I need you to sign some papers before you go, though."
He reached into a drawer, pulled out a small stack of documents, and placed them neatly in front of me along with a quill.
I began signing. Most of the papers were standard agreements, promises not to use dangerous or uncontrolled magic inside the academy grounds, confirmation that I understood the rules regarding spell practice, and a declaration that I would attend classes regularly. Basic stuff.
When I reached the last paper, I paused. Place of residence?
"Um..." I muttered. "I don’t have a place to live, sir."
"What?"
"I’m staying at a tavern for now," I shrugged. "Should I put that here?"
"Yes, that will do for now," he replied. "You’ll be assigned to a dormitory anyway, Mr. Walker. That section is mainly so we can deliver your school uniform."
"Alright... may I ask something?"
"Sure, Mr. Walker."
"How much would I have to pay for the dormitory?"
"None," he said simply. "Why would we charge gold for that?"
No student loans. Alright. Phew. Fucking phew.
I finished signing the rest of the papers and slid them back across the desk toward him.
"That would be all, Mr. Walker." Mr. Marble nodded once. "We will have your school uniform delivered to you this evening. Classes start at nine sharp. Don’t be late."
"Will do. Thank you, sir." I stood up. "I, uh... I should get going. Big day tomorrow."
He gave a final nod, then rose from his chair and walked back to the window without another word, clasping his hands behind his back. I quietly stepped out of the room and closed the door behind me.
Well, fuck. Classes tomorrow already.
