Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Lu Wen 47

"I’m very grateful they accepted and embraced me," Lu Wen said with a smile. "When choosing a partner, a lot of people want someone from a complete and perfect family, but I don’t have that. My career is doing fine, but when it comes to family, I have no confidence at all."

"That’s not your fault," Jin Xi said, pushing a glass of milk toward her. "Mom’s heart really aches for you; you had it so tough at such a young age."

"I know she feels for me," Lu Wen said, not trying to be overly sentimental. "That’s why I feel so lucky."

"I’m the lucky one," Jin Xi said, ruffling her hair again. "It feels like meeting you used up all the luck I’ve saved up in my entire life."

He smiled. "Breakfast will be ready in a moment. Why don’t you play with Little Leopard for a while? We won’t be back for a whole week."

Lu Wen’s eyes curved into crescents as she looked at Jin Xi. "Okay, I’ll spend some time with him. Little Leopard, we’re going to miss you..."

She sat down cross-legged beside Little Leopard, and the big dog immediately rested its front paws on her lap, nudging its head into her embrace. It was obvious how much he loved being with her.

Jin Xi glanced at Lu Wen, his eyes crinkling with a smile.

While Lu Wen was busy petting the dog, a wave of sympathy for her swept across the internet. Lu Wen was very private and had never publicly mentioned her family of origin.

Only now were people learning just how difficult her early years had been.

The cameraman glanced at the livestream comments, then at Lu Wen, and asked carefully, "Sister Wen, could you tell us a bit more about your past?"

"There’s not much to tell. It’s all in the past." Lu Wen’s hand paused on Little Leopard’s fur for a second before she smiled. "Besides, I’m doing very well now. A happy present is the best way to heal old wounds."

"If I keep harping on about it, it just seems undignified."

The cameraman agreed and switched topics. "Everyone’s curious. You’ve kept a very low profile these past few years, so why did you decide to join this show? Was there a particular reason?"

"I’d say there are two reasons," Lu Wen said, resting her chin on Little Leopard’s head as her eyes drifted toward the kitchen. "Jin Xi... he gets a little jealous."

"Jealous?" The cameraman was quick on the uptake. "Because of Ji Mingxi?"

"He said he’d be jealous no matter who I did a romance show with; it just happened to be Ji Mingxi." Lu Wen’s eyes crinkled. "And that’s despite knowing that my relationship with Ji Mingxi is purely platonic, like a brother and sister."

"But he gets jealous when he gets jealous." She scratched Little Leopard’s neck. "So, to keep him from stewing, I agreed to do this show."

When Lu Wen mentioned his jealousy, Jin Xi’s expression didn’t change a bit. He had always been open about his feelings. Even if it earned him a reputation for being possessive, he never tried to hide how much he loved and cherished Lu Wen.

The female director was clearly enjoying the couple’s sweet dynamic and couldn’t help but smile. "And the second reason?"

"The second reason is much simpler. Everyone is curious about him and worried about whether he’s taking good care of me. Plus, my fans keep saying I haven’t made an appearance in a long time, so I figured I’d use this opportunity to let everyone know I’m doing well."

"And to show everyone that I’ve truly met a wonderful person."

The director asked, "So you’re standing up for Mr. Jin?"

"Mhm. He’s not in the entertainment circle and has no contact with it in his daily life, so of course I have to protect him." Lu Wen’s demeanor was poised and generous. "A marriage is something you have to work at. We look after each other and stand up for each other. It’s not about one person unconditionally indulging the other."

"That might look sweet on the surface, but over time, it gets exhausting for the other person."

The director finally gave Lu Wen a break and looked around the spacious apartment. "Is this your own place, Sister Wen? Could we have a look around?"

She added with a smile, "To be honest, we’re mostly interested in seeing your trophies."

Lu Wen chuckled. "I’ll show you. I didn’t live here before. This is Jin Xi’s apartment. I moved in after we got married and brought all my trophies with me."

She led them to the study, which had a smaller, partitioned-off room inside. It contained a display case filled with various trophies.

At the very top, right in the center, was Tan You’s Best Screenplay award. The glittering golden trophy sat there with a commanding presence.

Lu Wen tilted her head back to look at the trophy. "Jin Xi said this room will be dedicated to trophies from now on."

This was Tan You’s glory, which Lu Wen envied but never resented. In fact, Lu Wen felt nothing but honored to be the custodian of Tan You’s award.

The director was especially curious. "The film crew won eight major awards for that project, but there’s only one trophy here..."

"The rest are with their respective winners, of course. For example, the awards for Best Costume or Best Picture are kept by the people who won them." Lu Wen shrugged. "Those are their personal honors. Besides, we’ll go on to create more and even better works in the future."

Her words immediately sparked curiosity about her future work plans. Fans were worried that she might retire to be a pampered wife now that she was married and neglect her company.

Lu Wen saw the comments and laughed. "My work plans are proceeding steadily. I’m not going to give up my career just because I got married..."

"My plans for this year? You all probably have a good idea. Director Qi’s production team isn’t fully set up yet, mostly because the actors have a lot of prep work to do... The new script is a real grind..."

"Old Qi? Ah, Old Qi and Director Wang are busy too..."

Lu Wen read through the comments, answering a question here and there, until she came across one that read: "If Director Qi, Old Qi, and Director Wang all have works nominated next year, wouldn’t that be a clash of the titans?"

Lu Wen laughed, her two dimples appearing. "I suppose it would be. But no matter who gets nominated or who wins, I’m the biggest winner either way, right?"

Her smile was both adorable and sweet. Before anyone could even process her answer, they were hit by a stunning wave of her beauty. This was mainly because Tan You was usually so low-key; even in the rare photos of her posted online, she always had the air of a capable, formidable career woman.

But Lu Wen was different. At home, she was relaxed and at ease. She wasn’t cold like Tan You, either; she was smiling more and more these days. The thought of another one of her works being nominated made her especially happy.

The live comments paused for two seconds before flooding the screen. "Is it just me, or is Sister Wen’s smile way too beautiful?"

"Seeing her smile makes me smile, I can’t help it."

"And those dimples are just the sweetest!"

Moving past that, Lu Wen continued discussing her future plans. "My focus will remain behind the scenes. After I finish this show, I probably won’t be appearing on-screen anymore."
