When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds
Chapter 280: Tang Li 8
The old woman brightened up. "That’s true. Oh, right, Li Zi, about that plot you mentioned this afternoon..."
Tan You gazed out the window. "He won’t be showing his face around me for much longer. Don’t you worry."
"That’s good, that’s good," the old woman nodded repeatedly. "You’re out there all by yourself, so you have to be extra careful. I’ve also been asking around. If you were to have some kind of accident, everything you own would go to your mother..."
Tan You felt a chill. "I understand. Don’t worry. I’m very careful with my life."
Grandpa Tang leaned in. "Be careful with everything. Call us anytime if you need anything."
After ending the call with the old couple, Tan You slowly sank into thought. ’Should I go ahead and write up a will? If something really did happen to me, I refuse to let Li Lanzhen benefit from it. If it falls into Li Lanzhen’s hands, doesn’t that mean it’ll end up in Li Wanjun’s hands?’
Tomorrow was a workday, which was perfect. Tan You made her decision: she would get it done tomorrow.
It wasn’t too difficult to take care of these things; she could just go to a notary public’s office. Of course, Tan You couldn’t just completely ignore Li Lanzhen. After all, the woman was Tang Li’s biological mother, and she didn’t have a job, which meant she had no source of income.
So, when Tan You wrote the will, she had to include a portion for her, but it would only be enough to cover her basic living expenses. As for anything else, Tan You naturally wouldn’t give it a second thought.
Tan You felt a weight lift off her shoulders as she walked out of the notary’s office. She had just gone in to submit the documents today. As for when she would receive the notarized will, all she had to do was wait.
It would probably take anywhere from half a month to a month. She could just hop on a flight to come back and pick it up then.
Putting these worries aside, Tan You returned to the office. Even though they were all meeting at the airport that evening, she still made a trip to the company. Seeing Fang Xiang’s former workstation completely empty, Tan You smiled in satisfaction.
’Director Wang sure works fast,’ she thought. ’He got rid of the guy so quickly.’
Meanwhile, Fang Xiang was grinding his teeth in a rage. He had spent so much to have someone forge his credentials, only to get fired the moment he showed up at the company this morning?
On top of that, Tan You hadn’t even come in today, so he couldn’t even ambush her like he’d planned. Fuming, Fang Xiang threw the things in his hand aside after leaving the company and immediately called Li Wanjun.
"I got fired. Aren’t you going to reimburse me for the money I spent?"
Li Wanjun was deeply annoyed. He frowned. "Didn’t I already give you twenty thousand? Why are you asking for more money?"
Fang Xiang sneered. "I used that twenty thousand to get all the documents made. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a full set nowadays? Also, how’s the plan going on your end?"
Li Wanjun’s brows furrowed. "Don’t even ask. Those two old fossils showed up yesterday, so I couldn’t move in at all. I even deliberately picked a time when fewer people were around, but who knew they’d show up at that exact moment."
Yesterday, the old Tang couple had essentially thrown him out. It would be a miracle if Li Wanjun felt good about that. For people like him, face was more important than anything. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
The old woman from the Tang family had not been polite in the slightest yesterday; it was as if she had ripped the dignity right off Li Wanjun’s face and stomped on it on the ground.
Fang Xiang said, "If you can’t move in, the plan won’t go smoothly. Things are tricky on my end, too. I need to figure something out. I absolutely have to get Tang Li."
His desire to conquer had truly been ignited. She was being so vigilant; if he didn’t successfully scheme against her, wouldn’t he be letting all her caution go to waste?
"Bastards," Tan You cursed under her breath as she watched Fang Xiang and Li Wanjun run their mouths.
She tapped the Beauty System. "This Fang Xiang was able to get those documents made. There must be someone behind him. Can you find out who?"
The little puppy-like figure spun in mid-air. "No problem! Tongtong will get right on it!"
Tan You’s eyes crinkled into a smile. "See? You’re plenty capable. Next time someone calls you a useless little thing, you can just shove it right back in their face."
The Beauty System wagged its tail frantically. "Tongtong understands!"
Watching the Beauty System vanish, Tan You smiled, her curiosity about Fang Xiang and his backers growing. ’It seems Fang Xiang belongs to Yan, but not just to Yan,’ she mused. ’So who else is backing him?’
"Some people just won’t do honest work, spending all their time swindling and scamming," Tan You murmured, glancing at the image of a re-energized Fang Xiang. "I refuse to believe your past is spotless. I’m going to dig up every single thing about you."
With the old Tang couple looking after things at home, and the Beauty System keeping an eye on Fang Xiang and his backers, Tan You drummed her fingers. ’Speaking of which, maybe I should learn some computer skills?’
’I can’t rely on the little system for everything. In the last world, the system had to step in too. I need to be able to do these things myself.’ Once Tang Li woke up, Tan You decided, she was going to study computer science.
At eight o’clock that night, Tan You and the rest of the show’s production team gathered at the airport. Away from the glitz and glamor of the screen, the three celebrity guests were all dressed very down-to-earth. They weren’t walking a red carpet; their daily wear was mostly simple and casual.
Tan You was following the crew for the shoot, so for now, she couldn’t worry about matters at home.
Back at the Tang residence, Li Lanzhen was about to lose her mind. She had assumed her in-laws would stay for a couple of days and then leave, but they had now been there for almost a week. Not only did they show no signs of leaving, but the number of things in the guest room was steadily increasing.
Seeing this, Li Lanzhen’s heart sank. Were they planning on moving in permanently?
Before, she was the only one at home, so she could live however she pleased. Now, with two extra people in the house, Li Lanzhen felt uncomfortable no matter what. She wasn’t a very diligent person; she usually just tossed her clothes, shoes, and other things around wherever she felt like it.
But the old woman was the opposite. She was a very neat and tidy person who lived by the rule of "a place for everything, and everything in its place." After a week of this, Li Lanzhen couldn’t stand it anymore.
This was her mother-in-law, after all. Even though the woman hadn’t said anything, just seeing her furrowed brow made Li Lanzhen’s heart lurch.
That evening during dinner, Li Lanzhen started beating around the bush. "Mom, have any of your friends contacted you while you’ve been staying here?"
The old woman knew exactly what Li Lanzhen was getting at the moment she started talking. She glanced at Li Lanzhen. "Of course. They’re all jealous of me, jealous that I get to enjoy the blessings of my wonderful granddaughter."
Li Lanzhen choked. She knew it; this old hag never had anything good to say. But she wasn’t one to give up so easily. She immediately pressed on, "Don’t you want to get together with your friends? I thought you enjoyed square dancing these days?"
The old woman put down her bowl. "Lanzhen, are you saying you find us annoying? Are you trying to drive us away? So that you can let your nephew move in?"
"That’s not what I meant," Li Lanzhen said, even though that was exactly what she thought. She wouldn’t dare say it out loud. "I just think that you and Dad are cooped up at home all the time, and I’m worried you’ll get bored."
"Oh, we’re not bored at all," the old woman said with a chuckle. "You do enough square dancing and it all feels the same. Isn’t there a saying? ’Life’s true value is found in stillness.’ I think there’s a lot of truth to that."
