When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds
Chapter 300: Tang Li 28
Director Hu’s gaze swept over the couple that hadn’t matched. "My gut tells me those two will definitely make some progress outside the show."
Tan You smiled. "Maybe. We’ll just have to keep an eye on them."
Director Hu was already lost in his imagination. "If they get together too, then when we do a second or third season, countless people will be fighting tooth and nail to get on our show. After all, your standards are very high."
"But it’s not easy to find such outstanding guests, is it?"
"It’s true, it’s not easy," Tan You didn’t deny it. "But love isn’t something only exceptional people deserve. Ultimately, we still have to return to real life."
"It’s just that reality shows with ordinary people don’t seem to get good ratings."
Director Hu thought about it and agreed. "Forget it. We’re not saviors; we can’t save everyone. It’s hard enough just to take care of ourselves and the people we care about."
After all the guests had made their choices, the first season of the dating show officially came to an end. Tan You generously extended an invitation, "It was fate that brought us all together. If you’re free tonight, how about we grab a casual meal together?"
Xu Jingyi was the first to respond. "I’m definitely free! I was hoping to get closer to you, but it’s a shame you haven’t been around these past few days."
Tan You glanced at Director Hu. "There was business at the company, and Director Hu was rushing me."
Xu Jingyi said, "I was just complaining off the cuff. No wonder we get along so well—we’re both career women."
Tan You replied, "Perhaps. I admire people who work hard for their careers. You and Yi Yang... is it official? Isn’t that a little too fast?"
Yi Yang smiled. "It’s alright. I wouldn’t say it’s that fast. We’ve already met each other’s parents, and they’re all very happy with us."
"She understands my dedication to perfecting my culinary skills in the kitchen, and I can handle the logistics and maintain a good home for her. We accept and admire each other, and that’s what matters."
Tan You smiled. "That’s great. What about you, Shuyu? Your boyfriend is graduating from university in the second half of the year. Will he be working in the same city as you?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Lin Qiao smiled as well. "I’ve already found an internship, and it’s not far from where Shuyu works. If all goes well, our work schedules will be almost perfectly in sync."
Shuyu was in a great mood. "Little Qiao is very capable and very smart."
Lin Qiao squirmed a little. "Little Qiao is a girl’s name."
Shuyu deliberately teased him, "Then how about Qiaoqiao?"
Tan You shivered. She exchanged a look with Xu Jingyi; neither of them could quite handle it. ’Who would have thought that the gentle and capable-looking Shuyu had such a mischievous streak in her?’
Everyone sat around talking, the atmosphere lively. Xu Jingyi rested her chin on her hand. "Seriously, coming on this show was a real win. Everyone here is so great."
Shuyu said, "That’s right. I came on a dating show and not only found a boyfriend I adore, but I also made some wonderful friends. I really hit the jackpot. And we got paid, too. It’s a win-win-win."
Everyone laughed. It was clear the show had left them all with fond memories.
Director Hu, not wanting to be left out, chimed in, "The show premieres tonight! After we all go our separate ways, make sure to promote it. And you, our great Director, shouldn’t you be updating your personal platform? I’ve never seen such a lazy producer."
"Me, lazy?" Tan You narrowed her eyes. "If I were lazy, would you be filming one show after another?"
"Alright, my mistake," Director Hu backed down instantly. "But seriously, Director Tang, Li Zi, seeing how lovey-dovey everyone is, don’t you want to find someone too?"
"What’s the rush? A woman with a career is forever young." Tan You flicked her hair. "If I went and fell in love, you can forget about getting your script."
"Pretend I didn’t say anything," Director Hu’s expression changed in a flash. "So, when can I get that script?"
"We’ll see," Tan You said, not deliberately stringing him along. "I told Chairman Wang I’d write it during the slow-life reality show. As for casting, don’t ask me to scout anyone. I’m very busy too."
Director Hu said, "Fine, fine. We’ll let someone else handle it then. You’re just so capable, you make everyone else look idle."
After having dinner with the dating show’s guests, everyone went their separate ways. To be honest, they probably wouldn’t see each other much in the future, as they all had their own busy lives to lead.
At eight o’clock that night, the first episode of the dating show officially premiered. Before the broadcast, Tan You casually reposted one of the show’s Weibo posts, not expecting the number of shares to quickly reach an unbelievable figure.
A quick look revealed that You Li, Director Liu, Xie Yunzhi, and others had all helped share it.
So, Tan You started a small group chat. "Promoting my show like this... I don’t have a budget to pay you for advertising."
Xie Yunzhi: "No need. Your friend’s script is worth more than any advertising fee."
Director Liu: "Exactly! Director Tang, when will your friend’s script be ready? I can’t wait."
Tan You: "Your current movie hasn’t even finished its run in theaters, and you already want a new script? Can you even handle it?"
Director Liu mulled it over. "Of course I can! The promotional tour is over. If you... if your friend has a new script, I’ll definitely drop everything I’m doing to focus on it."
You Li: "So if there’s a new script, you’ll include me?"
Xie Yunzhi quietly followed up: "+1."
The third male lead, the female lead, and others from the same cast all chimed in: "+1."
Tan You pinched the bridge of her nose. "We’ll see. I’ll ask my friend."
Xie Yunzhi looked down and smiled. ’She’s literally inventing a friend out of thin air.’ He decided not to expose her. ’Let her keep her little stubborn pretenses.’
As the industry’s first dating show featuring non-celebrities, everything from the guests’ professions and experiences to their attitudes on life sparked massive discussion.
Of course, the female guests’ excellence also showed everyone that women can carve out their own space in the professional world.
Watching the steadily climbing ratings, Director Hu’s already small eyes narrowed into thin slits. "This is great. I knew that with the two of us working together, Li Zi, we’d be an absolutely invincible team."
Sister Yun was happy too. Her wallet was about to get fatter, so how could she not be happy?
Director Hu: "Seriously, you have a real talent for capturing people on camera. Look how beautifully you shot the female guests."
Tan You: "That’s about the only thing I’m good at. If you asked me to direct a narrative, I’m pretty average at it, to be honest."
"Who can be a master of all trades?" Director Hu consoled Tan You. "It’s already incredibly difficult to perfect one thing. Look how beautifully you filmed Ning Yao before. Do you know how many people want you to do a photoshoot for them?"
"I’d rather not. There are plenty of excellent photographers out there; I won’t embarrass myself." Tan You was quite picky about who she filmed. She would only take on a project if she felt a connection with the subject.
It was precisely because of this connection that Tan You could keenly capture the subject’s unique qualities and bring them to life. If she were to photograph someone she didn’t know or understand, the pictures would turn out very ordinary.
