When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds
Chapter 310: Tang Li 38
She put down her phone and leaned back on the sofa. "I’ve slowly come to understand some things lately. My parents only paid me lip service. But when it came to my little brother, they thought of everything for him."
Li Lanzhen said as she wiped her face, "Forget it. What’s the point of talking about this? I can’t even bring myself to face Tang Li these days. I always feel like I owe her so much."
Sun Zhicai remained silent. ’When you do something, you have to be responsible for it.’ And this was a matter between Tang Li and Li Lanzhen; it wasn’t his place to interfere, nor could he.
When Li Lanzhen and Sun Zhicai came out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, they saw Tan You and the two elders of the Tang family standing beside her. She paused for a moment before walking over. "Dad, Mom, what are you doing here?"
Although Old Mrs. Tang was very displeased with Li Lanzhen, she wouldn’t embarrass her at a time like this. So, she smiled and said, "We’re all very happy that you’ve found a life partner you love. Now that you two have your happy ending, we should all get together for a meal. From now on, you’ll be starting a new Chapter in your life."
’Of course,’ she thought, ’from now on, they wouldn’t have to worry about Li Lanzhen anymore. She can be Sun Zhicai’s problem now.’
Li Lanzhen was a little touched. "Mom, I know I did many things wrong in the past..."
The smile in Old Mrs. Tang’s eyes faded slightly. "What’s the use of talking about that on such a happy day? Li Zi has already booked a private room. Let’s all go celebrate together."
Li Lanzhen hadn’t expected Old Mrs. Tang to say that. The other woman didn’t mention a single word about forgiveness. ’What am I supposed to say next?’
Tan You didn’t give her a chance to get sentimental, taking the lead. "Let’s go. We can talk about whatever you want over dinner."
But during the meal, the Tang family didn’t give Li Lanzhen an opportunity to apologize. Some things, once done, were done. A simple, casual apology couldn’t erase them.
Li Lanzhen seemed to have understood what they meant, so she didn’t bring up the topic again during the meal.
As they were about to part ways, Tan You handed her a bag. "A wedding gift. I hope you’ll have peace and happiness in the future."
Li Lanzhen took the bag. "Thank you, Li Zi. I... The one I’ve wronged the most is..."
Tan You looked away. "What’s in the past is in the past. I’m not going to tell you it doesn’t matter. I’m already grown up, and I don’t crave that sort of thing anymore. Just live your own life well."
"Grandma, Grandpa, and I are leaving now. You take care."
Watching Tan You and the old couple leave once again, Li Lanzhen wiped her face. "It seems like for the past year or so, all I ever see is her back. She’s always the first one to turn and walk away."
Sun Zhicai patted her hand. "Come on, let’s go home too."
He was, of course, well aware of the situation between Li Lanzhen and her daughter. But life is cruel like that. It doesn’t give you a second chance. The mistakes you’ve made will follow you forever, and they can’t be easily erased.
Tan You truly felt a lot more relaxed now that Li Lanzhen had remarried. Her steps were very light on the way back.
Old Mrs. Tang: "You really don’t feel reluctant at all?"
"Of course not," Tan You said with a smile. "From now on, Sun Zhicai will be there to worry about her. I just feel relieved, not reluctant in the slightest."
The old woman sighed. "You’ve been wronged."
Tan You kept smiling. ’Perhaps it was a great injustice to Tang Li. But I’m not Tang Li, so of course I don’t feel wronged at all.’
After lazing around at home for a few days, Tan You couldn’t stand it anymore. She wasn’t the type to sit still, so after a week of rest, she went back to work. After all, overtime came with a nice little bonus, while resting at home didn’t pay a single cent.
Seeing her back at the office, Old Hu merely flicked his eyelids open. "Knew you couldn’t stay idle. Since you’re here, how about we discuss the production of the first drama of my life?"
Tan You: "Hasn’t the female lead already been set as Ye Qian? Have the other actors not been decided yet?"
Old Hu: "She’s set, but what about all the different shots? I can’t break down the script by myself."
Tan You looked at Sister Yun. Sister Yun waved her hand. "I’m already helping him oversee post-production for the slow-life variety show. I don’t know anything about the other stuff."
Tan You understood. "Fine, I’ll help you."
Although she had never personally directed a movie or a TV series, she was familiar with the entire process. With her help, Old Hu’s workload was immediately cut by more than half.
While she was busy with work, subordinates or artists would occasionally come by to show their faces. The company had its own signed artists, two of whom had successfully auditioned for this drama.
Now that Tan You was at the company, they made sure to pop in even more often, hoping the director would remember them.
It wasn’t until Ye Qian arrived that Tan You showed some surprise. "Shouldn’t you be on Director Liu’s set?"
Ye Qian was frank. "Yes, I have scenes tomorrow. I heard from Sister Yun that you were in the office today, so I made a special trip to see you. Once I join Director Liu’s crew, I won’t be able to get away for two or three months."
"Besides, I also want to learn more from the veterans on set."
Tan You understood. "I’ll be at the company; I’m not going anywhere. My focus right now is on this slow-life show and Old Hu’s drama. After you finish with Director Liu’s project and have polished your acting skills, I imagine filming a TV series will be even more effortless for you."
Ye Qian’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled. "Okay. Actually, there’s something else I came to see you about."
Tan You put down her pen. "Did your company talk to you about renewing your contract?"
Ye Qian was direct. "Yes, but I don’t want to renew. I just wanted to ask you, is your company still signing artists?"
Tan You thought for a moment. "Hang on, let me contact Brother Chen."
Brother Chen was the head of artist management at the company. In less than two minutes, he arrived at Tan You’s office. After Tan You explained Ye Qian’s situation, Brother Chen didn’t hesitate for a second. "Sign her! Of course the company signs artists."
"If you sign with our company, I’ll personally manage you."
Tan You raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Brother Chen, you haven’t personally managed an artist in a long time."
Brother Chen: "Isn’t this my chance to ride Sister Li Zi’s coattails? Besides, she’s already starring in Director Liu’s movie. Her status is already there, so managing her will be a breeze."
Tan You: "I think you’re just eyeing the scripts I have over here."
"Sister Li Zi, we both know what’s up, so let’s not spell it out. Leave the matter of Ye Qian’s contract termination to me!" Brother Chen slapped his chest, guaranteeing it. If he signed Ye Qian, wouldn’t Tan You’s resources naturally favor her in the future?
’Ye Qian gets the meat while he gets the broth. That’s a good deal, right?’
Tan You looked at Ye Qian. "What do you think?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Ye Qian was thrilled. "That’s wonderful! I didn’t expect it to be this smooth. It’s just... Sister Hu, she’s always managed me... and she’s been very responsible..."
Brother Chen took charge of everything. "Don’t worry, we’ll definitely poach her too. We’ll even have her be your executive agent. But from now on, I’ll be your main agent."
Ye Qian understood Brother Chen’s meaning. "If Sister Hu knew about this, she would be overjoyed."
’If she could come work at Tan You’s company,’ she thought, ’Sister Hu would be thrilled, right?’
