Will of a Prince
Chapter 147: Princess of Chance
Sarah’s mind was completely blank. The threat level was already making her legs weak, but the description of her power was beyond insane. And the weakness...
’Presumably vulnerable when sleeping? Is the charm unsure if that is even her weakness? What kind of monster are we befriending?’
Squabee was looking at Sarah with desperate curiosity.
"What is it, Sarah? What does it say? What’s my power?"
Sarah jumped hearing her voice and cleared her throat before responding.
"Well, you do have quite a powerful Zalo. That is for sure."
"Can I control it? How does it work?"
"I’m not sure you need to."
"Just tell me."
"You can manipulate luck to fit any outcome you wish. It seems like your area of affect is only increasing every passing day. If that’s the case, it’s no wonder you survived escaping those crazy cultists so easily."
"Wait, you mean that I’m not just naturally lucky? It’s been a Zalo the whole time?"
"Indeed. That would also explain why every time I tried attacking you, something randomly happened to get in my way. Now imagine something like that and expand its influence for miles. That is how powerful your Zalo is."
Squabee didn’t seem surprised hearing the information Sarah was telling her.
"Oh. That would explain why I never saw any creatures when I was all by myself. I think that also explains why I’ve never gotten hurt in a battle before... or been in a fight."
"Do you realize how crazy that is? How are you not more shocked?!"
Squabee twirled her hair and smiled.
"I don’t really know. It’s a neat power, sure. However, I would much rather try and control it so I can protect my friends like you instead of myself."
Sarah rubbed her forehead.
"Why are you being sentimental. You could at least show a little bit of ego."
Sarah started walking out of the shop while fixing the glasses on her face. Before she left, she turned to Enki.
"Oh, I forgot to mention. It was nice meeting you, Enki. I will come back with the most delicious meal you’ve ever had tomorrow. And because I’m feeling generous, I’ll even bring you some more customers."
Enki’s golden eyes shined bright in the dark void of the cloak.
"That would be great! See you tomorrow!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
As the two walked back towards their house, Squabee started talking with Sarah a bit more.
"That enchanter guy really knows his stuff. Do you think we should recruit him if we ever leave this place?"
"I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. He seems really comfortable with the spot he’s in now. Besides, we would have to get Miss Lidia involved for that and she is probably swamped in work right now."
"Still, look at the quality of those glasses he gave us! Those are going to be extremely helpful for producing plans and understanding the essence of our powers."
"Hm. Maybe I’ll talk to everyone else about it and get their input."
Squabee poked the glasses on Sarah’s face.
"Can I try them on to see how they work too? I could also tell you how your power works!"
Sarah sighed and handed Squabee the glasses. Her eyes grew double the size through the lenses. She stared at Sarah with a smirk as the words slowly appeared next to her.
Name: Sarah Frost
Zalo: Invulnerability
Zalo Type: Curse
Zalo Description: This user is able to make any part of their body invulnerable, allowing any and all things to pass through her. If the user is holding an object or wearing a set of armor, they may also turn such items invulnerable as well, for these things are an extension of the body.
Threat Level: Infant Beast
Weakness: Gravity will pull the user through the earth if they are not careful, so there will always be part of her body that stays vulnerable.
Sqaubee giggled.
"Wow, your power is really cool! I wonder how it knows what your weakness is?"
"I wondered that too when I read yours. I’m assuming it takes your power and thinks of the most logical explanation on how to counter it in some way. However, to make that an enchantment must have been a really complicated process if it works with any and all Zalo powers."
"But that random person made this is mere minutes! That’s why we need them on the team!"
Sarah sighed and approached their house.
"I suppose it wouldn’t hurt. I wonder if anyone has made it home from school yet."
As she opened the door, she saw Slimo and Lidia kissing each other passionately. Sarah simply watched the scene in awe. It took them three moments before they realized there was someone watching them and they pulled away from each other. Lidia’s face turned bright red and she held her hands behind her back innocently.
"Oh... hey you two."
Slimo coughed into his hand and looked away.
"We thought no one was going to be here for a while. Sorry. Since when do you wear glasses, Squabee?"
Squabee looked like she was about to explode. Sarah was trying her best to hide her shock.
"You two are a couple?! How long were you going to hide this from us?! How long has this been happening?!"
Lidia still refused to look at anyone.
"Well... it just kind of happened, you could say. Please don’t tell anyone!"
"I thought you both were supposed to be working for the palace as guards?"
"We were told to come back tomorrow for mission assignments. Sorry. Why are you both back early anyway?! Did you figure out your powers that quickly?!"
"Don’t try to change the subject! We just caught you two kissing!"
Slimo walked over to Lidia and put an arm around her.
"We are all adults here... except maybe Squabee with how she’s acting. Let’s be civil about his and keep it between us. Okay?"
"Hey! That was mean!"
"Fine. But why do you want to hide this from everyone?"
Lidia walked forward and played with her thumbs.
"Well, I’ve never really had something like this before. I want to keep it personal. I love my family, but even I deserve some privacy every now and then."
Sarah nodded and gave Lidia a small hug.
"It’s okay. My lips are sealed. I’ll make sure that loudmouth next to me doesn’t tell anyone either."
Instead of responding, Squabee simply stared at both of them with shock on her face through the glasses. Lidia and Slimo noticed her weird gaze.
"Squabee? Did you hear us? Please do not tell anyone about this. Okay?"
Squabee hesitated for a moment before responding.
"Oh, yes! Sorry, I got a bit distracted with these glasses looking at you both."
"That’s right, you neither of you answered my question earlier. Why are you both back so early?"
Sarah stared at the glasses on Squabee’s face.
"Well, I think I should start by telling you we met a friend. Or rather, a potential ally."
