Chapter 16: Free Drinks

The atmosphere was grim, so was the condition of the fat man. The casino called Den of Legends was no mere casino at all; the presence of the Chrono Crystal alone proved it.

Whether it’s the top-class embellishment or the quality of games, this casino rivalled those of the main city.

It is no news that nobility of all ranks tend to invest in such high profit-margin businesses, including the brother of the fat man, Baron Edward.

This was no small issue at all; Baron Edward now has to pay a lump sum of money.

The fat man unintentionally gave fame to Den of Legends.

The whole capital will now learn about this; whispers cannot be restrained by walls.

A casino in the slums whose manager was strong enough to easily and unhesitatingly crush a One-Lined Blessed noble’s hand.

This feat indicated several things: a mighty power that backed such boldness. A power that could hire such a calibre of man as manager. Hawk was at least a Two-Lined Blessed, if not Three-Lined.

Hawk was an elemental type; his power of diamond can’t give him that brute strength. That means he was a higher-lined Blessed.

A blessing is like a tree; it can be an oak tree or a pine tree. An oak tree does not bear the branches of a pine tree. Gifts are the branches of a blessing.

The blessing is divided into four ranks: from lowest, Warrior’s Blessing, Champion’s Blessing, Ascender’s Blessing, and God’s Blessing.

However, these are ranks, not types. A rank almost never changes, but in extremely rare cases, there are records showing that a Warrior-ranked blessing can evolve to a Champion rank with the help of a new gift, but that gift must have powers equivalent to that rank.

What never changes is the type of the blessing; it is something that has no record of changing in the past centuries.

The types define what kind of power a blessing an aspirant possesses.

Physical Type: Super strength, speed, durability, and regeneration. Almost all blessings of this type belong to the Warrior rank. They will be found on the frontlines.

Elemental Type: This type of blessing controls nature itself. There are two sub-types within this category: one that controls large-scale environments like Edniot Quintess, and others who can perform elemental body transformations, such as Hawk.

Support Type: The Blessed of this type are the backbone of the army. Healing, buffing, spying, and defense all fall within its forte. This type is treasured by others.

Bestial Type: An uncommon type, usually a bloodline blessing. Terrifyingly powerful, the Blessed of this type can transform into beasts they form bonds with; the stronger the beast, the more threatening their power becomes.

And lastly.

Exotic Type: The rarest of them all. Even the weakest blessing of this type will be given the rank of Champion. Time manipulation, space warping, telekinesis, illusions, control over death and life. This type challenges reality and the core mechanism of the world.

Ranks determine the potential, and type shows the nature of a blessing. This system was created by humans to keep records, an ideal way to keep an eye on friends and foes.

The eyes of the fat man moved from side to side, seeking any helping hand possible. But who would be naive enough to jump into such a mess?

It was at that moment that a loud sigh was heard, and a man stood from his seat. He was none other than the man with the white blank mask.

He nonchalantly walked towards Hawk, his stance showed no sign of weakness. He wore a suit, a mediocre one usually worn by washed-up nobles. He gently patted Hawk’s shoulder; his height and physique were similar to Hawk’s.

"You are ruining our mood, Manager. How about you let go of this pig and resume the games? I mean... you don’t want your esteemed guests to have a bad impression of this casino because of a sadistic fool, do you?" he said. His voice was gentle as a breeze, and his manner of speaking was friendly.

"As for the compensation, I’ll be the one to talk with Baron Edward," he added.

Hawk nodded and stepped back. "Anything for you, Mr. White. Your word is enough."

Hawk let go of the broken hand, and the fat man growled in pain. The man with the white mask looked at him with a side-eye and uttered, "Get lost. I’ll meet you in Edward’s chambers."

"Who are you?" asked the fat man. He was hesitant but still asked; he wanted to know if he was close to him, maybe he still wanted to gain something out of this casino.

However, something happened, and the big fat man suddenly collapsed on the ground. Nobody saw what happened, nobody except a few.

Hawk understood what to do next. He snapped his fingers, and two men came inside. They picked up the unconscious brother of the Baron.

"Throw him in my carriage," said the man called Mr. White.

Hawk paid no heed and turned towards the other players. He bowed and said, "We apologise for the unsightly disturbance. To compensate, we offer a drink to everyone. Cheers!"

The mood suddenly refreshed. After all, who doesn’t want a free drink?
