Chapter 996: He’s Much More Exhausted Than I Am
She opened the door and walked out of the bedroom, then crossed the corridor and went downstairs.
There was a maid on duty at night.
When Scarlett reached the hall, the maid was leaning on the sofa asleep, perhaps just resting for a moment with her eyes closed, not deeply asleep, and upon hearing Scarlett’s footsteps, she immediately opened her eyes.
Seeing Scarlett walking towards her, the maid rubbed her sleepy eyes and quickly stood up, speaking in a hoarse, sleepy voice, "Miss Yates, is there anything you need?"
Scarlett turned her head to look around, furrowing her brows, and asked in confusion, "Do you know where Matthew Saxon went? Did he go out again after we came back?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"You mean the Second Young..." The maid was about to call out Young Master but seemed to remember something, her expression changed slightly, and she quickly corrected herself, "Miss Yates, the Young Master is in the study. He instructed that Miss Yates would be very hungry after waking up, so the kitchen prepared some food, are you hungry, Miss Yates? I’ll go to the kitchen now..."
"Wait." Scarlett called her back, thought for a moment, then said, "Pack the food into the containers, I’ll go to the study later."
The maid immediately understood, smiled, and said, "Okay, I’ll do it right away."
The maid was swift, and in less than ten minutes, she brought over a delicate food container.
"Miss Yates, Young Master hasn’t eaten either. After he carried Miss Yates back to the room, he went straight to the study, without asking anyone to send dinner over. When Young Master is busy, he often does this, and we don’t dare to disturb him, but if Miss Yates goes to find him, Young Master will surely be very happy."
Scarlett took the food container, listened to the maid’s words, and frowned, "He didn’t eat dinner?"
The maid nodded, "No, he didn’t."
Scarlett originally intended to bring him a late-night snack, but who knew he hadn’t even eaten dinner.
She also knew that after taking back Seymour, there would surely be a lot of company matters, and he would be very busy these days, not having much time to accompany her.
But today, for the wedding photoshoot, he didn’t go to the company the entire day, so he had to work overtime to handle the accumulated business.
Scarlett suddenly felt very distressed.
She was indeed tired all day today, and Matthew was not much lighter, if not even more tired.
Though she was tired and could lie in bed when they returned, he still had to deal with the company matters without a moment to rest.
In comparison, he was far more tired than her.
"Miss Yates, you should persuade Young Master to pay more attention to his health. We dare not say such things, nor do we have the right to say them, even if we did, Young Master wouldn’t take it seriously. But Miss Yates, you’re different. Young Master cares for you so much, he’ll more or less listen to your words."
Scarlett nodded and said, "Yes, I’ll make sure he takes care of himself."
--
The corridor was covered with a thick carpet, making no sound when stepping on it.
Scarlett carried the food container to the study door.
The door was tightly closed; she reached out and gently knocked, and a slightly displeased voice came from inside, "Didn’t I tell you guys, if it’s not important, don’t disturb me?"
The voice was low, hoarse, and full of exhaustion.
Scarlett pursed her lips and softly said, "It’s me."
"Scarlett?" The voice, still low and hoarse, however, no longer carried dissatisfaction.
"Yes, it’s me, Matthew. Open the door."
