Chapter 45: Chapter 37: Bloodline Factors

After leaving the dining hall, Isaac went straight back to his laboratory. He immediately buried himself in designing transformation plans for the Gale Demon Wolf, the Demonized Wild Boar, and the Horned Rabbit. The respective strengths and weaknesses of each were quite clear.

The Horned Rabbits could multiply rapidly, giving them an absolute numerical advantage. Their drawback was that they were individually too weak. Against a powerful foe, they would be helpless, without even a chance to maneuver. The Gale Demon Wolf was relatively more balanced; it could bite up close and cast Wind Blade from a distance. Furthermore, since the enemy’s tamed demons were mostly Gale Demon Wolves, the conversion efficiency would be high.

As for the Demonized Wild Boar, it had one simple advantage: its hide was tough and its flesh was thick!

A charge from a herd of them would be no different from a heavy cavalry charge!

However, their drawbacks were low Magic Power and insufficient speed and durability.

Therefore, they would need some degree of transformation before being sent to the battlefield. If he couldn’t achieve a breakthrough, he would have to send them as they were.

However, once he got started, Isaac was at a loss... 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

It wasn’t until he actually began designing transformation plans for War that Isaac suddenly realized how utterly inadequate his much-vaunted Biological Transformation Technology was.

When he really thought about it, he only had two usable transformation techniques: heart-swapping and blood-swapping, and his only advantage was a slightly higher success rate.

These two techniques alone were nowhere near enough to support the designs he had in mind.

Fortunately, this was Cheryl’s Mage Tower, which had an extensive library. Isaac could go look for any books he needed at any time.

The books in the Mage Tower’s library mostly belonged to Cheryl herself. Only a few belonged to the Truth Association and couldn’t be checked out. Besides, those books were generally protected by Magic seals; no one could get them without Cheryl’s permission.

Of course, Isaac didn’t need those books anyway. He only took some Magic Books on biological transformation, and they were all solid theory with very few actual Magic involved.

But that didn’t matter. In Isaac’s view, this knowledge was far more useful than any specific Arcane Art or Witchcraft.

And so, armed with these books and the anatomical diagrams of the three demons, Isaac once again immersed himself in the ocean of knowledge. He even brought a book with him to read during his meals.

Fortunately, Isaac was now eating alone in a new dining hall. Otherwise, if his father, Gaia, saw him, he would surely get an earful.

The fruits of his tireless studies, for which he had forgone food and sleep, completely surpassed his expectations.

He had previously imagined that in the field of biology, Wizards, with the aid of Magic, would have progressed further than the scientists of his past life. But he had never expected them to have come *this* far!

So comprehensively!

After studying the major, renowned theories of the Truth Association during this period, Isaac discovered that the Wizards’ Biological Transformation Technology was actually extremely advanced!

His own techniques of heart-swapping and blood-swapping had been obsolete for hundreds of years!

What was truly in vogue now was genetic modification!

Of course, in this world, the technical term for "gene" was "bloodline factor."

By editing these bloodline factors, one could perform much more detailed and comprehensive optimizations on a Demon.

In addition to optimizing a Demon, one could also add new bloodline factors to make it even more perfect!

A paper from the Truth Association even mentioned a concept called the "Perfect Being."

This was a creature that existed only in theory, a being that perfectly combined the strengths of all living things in the world, making it omnipotent!

However, it remained purely theoretical; there wasn’t even a process for its initial realization.

For one, different bloodline factors would reject one another. The more factors you tried to fuse, the stronger the rejection, and the higher the chance of failure. For another...

...the theory of bloodline factors was still incomplete. It could only affect Tier One and Tier Two Demons. Tier Three Demons—High-level Demons—possessed Authority, just like humanity’s High-level Mages and High-level Knights.

And most of the time, Authority superseded bloodline!

Only a small fraction of Demons had bloodlines that could override certain Authorities. For example, Giant Dragons!

Giant Dragons were one of the few Demons whose bloodline factors could not be interfered with, which was why their cultivation was currently stuck at the simple feeding stage.

And so, a week later, with the help of his perfect teacher—the Golden Finger—Isaac had successfully gained a preliminary mastery of all the Magic Books on biological transformation in Cheryl’s Mage Tower.

In truth, it was only eleven books. Cheryl herself wasn’t an expert in biological transformation; her research was in Alchemy, and her specialty was Alchemy Demonic Puppets. As a result, her collection of biology-related books was not extensive.

But even so, Isaac’s learning speed still astonished Cheryl!

This was, after all, self-study!

At least, that’s what it looked like to her.

To gain a preliminary mastery of eleven Magic Books in the field of biological transformation in just one week, all through self-study...

’Such talent... It’s a real shame he’s not becoming a Truth Mage!’

At this thought, Cheryl sighed. She closed the window showing Isaac’s publicly posted research progress, shook her head in resignation, and returned her attention to the manuscript before her. It contained the data on Shushu.

It would be of some help to her in researching her own Authority.

...

"Excellent. Harmon, get ready. We’re conducting the first bloodline factor transformation experiment!"

In the third-floor laboratory, Isaac was dressed in a white lab coat and white gloves. A menacing Demon Claw extended from behind his head as he held a scalpel and forceps in his hands. The eyes visible above his surgical mask were overflowing with excitement.

Before him lay a deeply slumbering Gale Demon Wolf. A young wolf, sleeping soundly indeed.

"HISS~"

Harmon swayed gently, indicating it was ready.

Isaac didn’t hesitate. Without even shaving the fur, he swiped the scalpel directly across the Demon Wolf’s body. Bloody wounds appeared one after another as he peeled back the wolf’s skin, layer by layer.

Harmon swayed gently again, and an obscure ripple of Magic Power fell upon the Demon Wolf on the operating table, staunching the rapid loss of its Life Force.

Soon, Isaac had roughly dissected the Demon Wolf. It looked horrifying, but it was nothing special. Although the Demon Wolf was now covered in wounds, several of them deep enough to expose bone, it was nothing compared to the Divinity Network implantation surgery Shushu had undergone. That was a truly different league.

Isaac had managed to keep Shushu alive through that incredibly dangerous procedure, so maintaining the life of a Demon Wolf with such minor wounds was naturally no problem at all.

After opening up the Demon Wolf, Isaac put down his scalpel. He took a pair of forceps from Harmon and carefully began embedding fine, blood-red threads into the wolf’s body.

These blood-red threads were divided into three types. The first was to promote the optimization of the wolf’s own bloodline factors. The second consisted of compatible bloodline factors from other Wind Elemental Demons. The third type had no direct function; it was a "buffer" unique to Isaac’s Golden Finger. Thanks to it, Isaac could stack the fault tolerance rate to two hundred percent!

In other words, unless he made a fatal error during the procedure—like his hand slipping and slicing open the heart—the surgery was guaranteed to succeed!

Naturally, Isaac wouldn’t make such a basic mistake. Soon, he had embedded all the blood-red threads into the Demon Wolf’s body and had completely sutured the wounds.

After casting a few Healing Magic Spells on it to completely stabilize its condition, Harmon placed the Demon Wolf into an iron cage. It then knocked out a Horned Rabbit and placed it on the operating table...
