Chapter 28: Internal Conflicts

After the mutated rat was killed, everyone finally had a weapon.

Richard got a black machete with strange inscriptions, while Miguel got a spear.

It wasn’t as good as Marie’s red spear, but it was enough to handle creatures of his level.

"As for you..."

Leon looked at the weapon in his grasp, his expression a little conflicted.

His eyes shifted to Fel, and he shook his head.

"This isn’t going to work. She can’t even carry it properly."

When the reward were dished out by the Star Stream, a cube had appeared in the hands of the three.

He had helped them crack the cubes and check out the weapons before returning them to their owners.

It was just that Fel’s reward wasn’t suitable for her.

"She can have my spear, though."

Miguel suggested with a friendly smile, glancing at the girl.

"E-eh?"

A surprised sound escaped the girl’s cute lips as she looked up at him.

"Can I try it out?" He asked Leon, receiving a nod from him.

Miguel walked up to Leon, then grabbed the hammer by its handle.

The pole alone was as long as a sword. The head of the weapon was large, the size of three human heads joined together.

He grunted as he felt the weight, then decided to add some free stat points into his Strength points.

After adding five, he was finally able to lift the hammer with little effort.

"Alright. That should work."

Leon nodded, collecting the spear and handing it over to Fel. Although he knew Miguel was just trying to be nice to her, he didn’t care.

As long as their relationship didn’t affect his plans negatively, then it was fine.

"That’s enough lingering here. Let’s g—"

Suddenly he heard squeaking sounds and looked around. From the buildings around them, mutated rats crawled out in numbers, surrounding the group.

Leon’s eyes narrowed. ’They’re this many? I can’t imagine a mutated rat tide.’

It would be horrible.

"Boss... what do we do?"

Richard’s voice trembled, holding onto his machete tightly.

He had never faced anything this much before. The same went for the others, including Cassie and Marie.

"I’ll handle it."

Leon’s voice remained calm, and he took a step forward.

He lifted a hand to grab the hilt of his weapon. The gesture was casual and filled with confidence, causing the five students to relax slightly.

"Watch and learn."

He suddenly took off, striking the closest mutated rat in one wild swing.

The rat’s head was crushed into pieces, and its body fell to the ground, lifeless.

The rat’s squeaked and instantly diverted their attention to him.

Leon was unfazed.

Holding the black greatsword in his hand, he struck every rat with precision and raw power, killing them with a single strike each.

In less than a minute, he had killed the twenty mutated rats.

Their corpses littered the ground, creating a sinister atmosphere around him.

"He’s really strong..."

Miguel heard Fel mutter to herself, then glanced at her with a smile.

"Hm, he really is."

Leon walked back to them, looking at the bloodstains on his clothes. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"I’ll have to get it washed then."

The group made their way back to the field house, killing stray zombies and clearing the way back.

"Honestly, I can’t imagine how much zombies there’d be on campus right now."

Richard said to Miguel, looking around carefully.

The other guy looked disturbed too, but managed to put on a smile.

"I just know that we’re going to leave someday."

Leon heard their words but wasn’t concerned. He had another thing on his mind.

’If those mutated rats could group up just like the zombies, then our trip to get the buses might not be pleasant.’

After returning to the field house, the first thing he did was to take a shower and wash the blood off his combat clothes.

When he got back out, breakfast was just being served. He went directly to the kitchen, cut the line since no one dared to complain, and was served his own portion on a tray.

"Hey, Leon. Come join us."

Gwen waved at him with a smile, sitting at the table with the other leaders.

He was planning to eat alone before, but since he had something to tell them, he decided to do it now.

He sat at the table, placing his tray of food down. Every leader was served with white rice and stew, with chicken lap and a bottle of juice to top it up.

It wasn’t the same for the others, though. The people who volunteered to go get the foodstuffs from the restaurant were served rice and stew, while Leon’s little team of five were served the same with a chicken wing each.

As for the others, they were merely served white rice with a sachet of water—just like Leon promised.

Naturally, there was dissatisfaction, and the murmurs were getting loud.

At some point, a pair of tough-looking students walked up to Cassie and Fel, glaring at the girls.

"Hey, Josh. Look at these bitches. They even have fried chicken to eat! Damn it!"

The other guy also growled. "I told you this is bullshit. Look! They only gave us white rice! How dare they do that? Are they gods now or something?!"

His voice was loud, and the leaders heard him clearly.

Selene paused eating, but didn’t look up. After a moment, she continued eating and did not pay attention to them.

"These guys..."

Reymond sighed in exasperation, but seeing Selene not reacting, he didn’t complain too.

Leon didn’t even pause, only eating his food as if he hadn’t heard the complaints at all.

Seeing that none of the leaders reacted, Josh and his friend grew bolder.

Josh grinned and grabbed the spear by the girl’s side.

Cassie wanted to snap back, but the guy had already grabbed Fel.

He pressed the blade of the spear against her neck and turned to Leon, his eyes wide and fierce.

"Hey! Bastard, if you don’t change that fucking rule you made, I’ll run this girl through with the spear."

Finally, Leon’s eating paused, and he slowly turned to him.
