Chapter 77: Brewing Storm

Reymond and Selene walked into the reception area with calm expressions, their gazes falling on the guys who were drinking.

Reymond blinked in surprise, "Alcohol?"

Leon nodded and easily sobered up. However, looking at Richard who was still smiling foolishly, it was obvious that he was drunk.

"Miguel, help him to his room," Leon said.

The blonde guy was still in his right senses, so he nodded and supported Richard as they both went upstairs.

Leon finally turned to the two who had just arrived.

"How was your hunt?" He asked, his voice calm.

Selene turned her face away, seemingly disgusted by the smell of alcohol.

"Reymond, you speak with him. I’m going upstairs."

Without waiting for a reply, she left.

Reymond’s lips twitched, and he said apologetically, "Sorry about that, but she hates alcohol and cigarettes."

"Oh?" Leon raised a brow in surprise, then shrugged nonchalantly. He didn’t care. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"So, tell me," He said. "Did you guys find anything?"

Reymond nodded, his expression serious. He sat beside him, then said, "Although I’m not sure, we found traces of human movement."

"Oh. Survivors, eh?" Leon mused, though his eyes were cold. "What exactly did you find?"

Reymond’s brows furrowed, and he replied, "An abandoned car, and a few corpses around it."

This time, Leon frowned and asked. "Corpses? What could have killed them?"

He found it strange. Reymond had said they were corpses, not zombies, so it was obvious that they weren’t attacked by zombies. Were they attacked by their fellow humans?

"That... I don’t know," Reymond shook his head, a confused expression on his face.

"Explain better," Leon said, downing his last shot of alcohol.

Reymond nodded, then began speaking, "The corpses were shredded. I don’t know why, but their expressions were full of terror too."

He locked eyes with Leon, then continued, "It wasn’t normal terror of seeing a zombie or something. Honestly, I thought they were tortured to death."

His body trembled, as if the memory alone was a nauseating thing.

"Most of them had their limbs cut, and it seemed they were evolvers since I found a few broken weapons lying around them."

Leon’s frown deepened, and he realized the situation might be more serious than he had thought. At first, he thought they were probably attacked by their fellow humans.

But hearing that they were evolvers and were terror-stricken before death, the probability of their attacker being human had lessened greatly.

"Hm, this sounds troublesome," He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Reymond nodded, then sighed tiredly. "I’m a bit worried to be honest, but I believe we’ll all be fine."

He smiled weakly at Leon, patted his shoulder, then went upstairs.

Now alone, Leon buried his face in his hands.

"Hm, I guess there’s something else worth hunting again."

He raised his head, then looked at Thyra who was now sitting on the stool beside him.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" He asked, seeing her look at him with a peculiar gaze.

"Hm? Can’t I simply admire a handsome guy? Fufufu~" She answered, laughing softly.

Leon quietly rolled his eyes, not believing her one bit. Before the apocalypse, he was very average and had no special features. The only thing he knew was that his physique had improved greatly.

His face definitely hadn’t magically become handsome like some prince charming.

Thyra smiled but didn’t argue. It was better to let him notice from the reaction of the people around him.

’Hm? I wonder how many ladies will fall for you, Little Leon~’

She knew that in such a situation like the apocalypse, looks alone didn’t determine a person’s attractiveness. Most times it was strength—and Leon was a strong one, already at Level 25. So, she had no doubt that he’d soon be swarmed by admirers.

’Would you have a harem, or settle with only one?’ She was curious.

Suddenly, he stood up, stretching his shoulders.

’I should scout the area tonight.’

He turned around when Gwen came downstairs, wearing an apron and a chef’s beret.

She smiled at him, then said, "Dinner’s ready. Come upstairs. We found a proper dining room on the fourth floor."

He nodded, then followed her. When they arrived, everyone was already at the table, including Richard who had now sobered up.

Unexpectedly, tonight’s dinner was a feast, as the meal looked lavish.

’Hm, let’s see how good mutated pork is, then.’

He sat beside Marie, and began digging in quietly.

’Ohh. It’s really tasty! I feel like I’m eating meat soaked in honey.’

A smile unconsciously appeared on his face, and he began eating at a faster pace. Beside him, Marie observed his expression, then asked in a low voice.

"Boss, can I see you privately later?"

Leon glanced at her and nodded. He didn’t know what she wanted, but there was no need thinking about it.

"W-whoa-!" One of the non-evolved students gasped as he ate, his mouth wide open.

"What is it, Claus?" Gwen asked, her eyes reflecting concern.

The guy slowly closed his mouth, his gaze focused on something before him. Then, he glanced at Gwen.

"I... I suddenly got 1 Strength point," He answered, still surprised.

His answer stunned everyone at the table, and before they could react, another person at the table stammered.

"M-Me too!" A bespectacled girl said, her eyes wide as she looked at the glowing notification before her.

"Oh?" Leon was surprised, then glanced at Thyra for an explanation.

"Well, it’s natural. When you eat good food, you get nutrients from it. For a normal human like them, mutated meat can give them stat points of any kind," She explained, sitting on the table.

Leon tore his gaze away from her, then said to the others, "That isn’t too surprising. It’s because of the mutated meat."

Gwen turned to him in surprise and confusion, and asked, "But why didn’t we get the same boon?"

Leon was about to answer her, but Selene beat him to it, "That’s because we’re already above the level of the mutated pig. They’re still at Level 0, so they’re the only ones that can benefit the most."

"I see, that makes sense," Gwen nodded in understanding.

"But what if we eat something like Level 50 mutated meat? Will we get something from it?" Richard asked curiously.

"No idea," Selene shrugged and continued eating.

Some time later, everyone had finished dinner, and Fel healed Selene one last time, returning her injured arm to its pristine condition. The silver-haired girl flexed her muscles and stretched her arm, feeling no discomfort.

Then, she said to Fel, "Thank you."

The girl immediately shook her head and mumbled something under her mask. Then, she rushed downstairs to her room.

Meanwhile, Leon went to the reception area with Marie to hear what she had to say.
