World-saving Plan: The Only Savior
Chapter 1850 - 1: Fully Immersive Game
Water Blue Star, Hua Xia Country, Bai Yulan City.
Li Zixuan is a student who graduated from university nearly three years ago, currently working at a regular private company with a monthly salary of fifteen thousand.
Every day he works ten hours, taking home that pathetic income and experiencing the hardships of life.
Perhaps twenty years ago, when his parents were working in factories, fifteen thousand was considered a lot, but now, it’s really only a mediocre level.
But Li Zixuan doesn’t have a choice; he doesn’t want to end up like his mom and dad, working in those dirty factories. He wanted to sit in an office, but he lacks any advantage in education or work experience, so eventually, he found this seemingly easy but actually suffocating job that was neither high nor low.
At least he can sit in the office every day, avoiding the noise of the machines in the factory or the exposure to the elements on a construction site, and when his distant relatives ask about his job, it sounds a bit better when he says he works in an "office."
Before, Li Zixuan lived with his parents, without worrying about food, drink, water bills, or electricity. He only needed to read books and play games every day.
But after graduating from university and stepping alone into society, he realized how delightful life used to be. The so-called hardships of studying were nothing compared to the current job.
Although studying might feel monotonous and dull, it certainly didn’t give him the suffocating feeling of being stuck in a quagmire like now, where he can almost see the end of his life with no hope of escape.
Li Zixuan regrets not working harder during his studies, as it might have prevented such numbness now.
Sometimes, when the night is quiet, he thinks if the heavens could give him another chance, he’d seize it to change his future destiny.
However, fantasy remains just that; human thoughts cannot change what has already happened, and Li Zixuan knows it well.
"Changing now isn’t actually too late, Old Li, you’re only twenty-five, nothing stopping you from working hard. I’ve recently signed up for an English class, planning to improve my English skills for more opportunities in the future. Why don’t you join me? Stop clinging to that crappy game of yours. No matter how good you are in the game, it’s fake. Moreover, that Space Legend of yours doesn’t even have a professional league, so you can’t make money from it!"
In the employee dormitory, the voice of his good friend Wang Muchen came from the wristwatch communicator.
The two were best buddies for four years of college, and though they’ve seen each other less after graduation, they often keep in touch, maintaining a strong friendship.
Li Zixuan, while controlling his game character on the computer, replied to Wang Muchen on the other end of the video:
"I say, Old Wang, you don’t get it. Although Space Legend has few players, its technical content is really high. There’s real stuff in there; it’s definitely fun! I assure you! Why don’t you come play with me? I’m currently in the top ten power rankings in our region, purely based on skill. If I had money to buy equipment and beat those rich players, I’d definitely wipe them all out!"
Wang Muchen appears as a chubby fellow, he pouted on the other end of the video, showing disdain for Li Zixuan’s words.
"Pfft, what do I need your guarantee for? I’m not interested in sci-fi genres, too lazy to play. Besides, your game is really boring, just controlling a spaceship flying around in space, with the surrounding environment being pitch black from start to finish. I almost fell asleep during a novice tutorial last time; it’s just too dull!"
Being ridiculed by his friend about the game he loves, Li Zixuan couldn’t help but rebut:
"Who says this game is boring? You just didn’t understand it. Let me tell you, this game invited experts in the astronomy and aerospace domain as consultants. The various spaceship parameters are exceedingly realistic, definitely better than the trash games you play!"
"Alright, alright, I don’t want to talk about this with you. I have a class later. I came over today to ask if you want to learn English with me, if I pull someone over, I can get quite a bit of tuition refunded, so we can split it evenly!"
"Not to be mean, but Old Wang, look at the age we live in, the world is going to be ruled by our Chinese language, who’s still learning that stuff? And at a cost, pfft, even if they paid me, I wouldn’t learn! I’m saving my money for the new Game Box that’s coming out!"
"Game Box? What’s that? It couldn’t be that novel’s Game Box, right? Are you sure you’re not pulling my leg? Have our tech reached the point where we can make Game Boxes?"
Li Zixuan slapped his forehead, showing a surprised expression, and said:
"I say, Old Wang, how long have you been offline? Don’t tell me you don’t know about the Game Box just released by Light Blue Star Company, just like in the novels, with immersive experience, reportedly over 95% real simulation. Gamers worldwide are losing it over this! And you’re telling me you don’t know!?"
