Chapter 20: Ring

A while had passed after her calling me dumb for laughing without a reason. At first we talked about random things, but soon, an awkward silence emerged between us.

She was still holding my hand, but since nothing was coming up in either of our minds we just tried to start the chat with random dialogues.

"A... Am... You aren’t thirsty, right?" I asked and she just shook her head, "Nu..."

"Well, then I will go back to my bed." I said and she let go of my hand.

"O...k..."

She gave me her consent, but I didn’t stand up or even move. Because there was something that had caught my attention.

On top of the side table, I saw a silver wire. It was really thin and most importantly it was shaped like a ring. I don’t know what it was doing here or what it was used for.

But, I think I should try to put it on Viora’s finger. It is almost the same size as one of her fingers too. I just need something that can be detected as a ring by the system.

If it can do the charm then I won’t have to go out and look for one. Above all, I also don’t think I have much time for that.

"Viora, since you have agreed to go with me then how about I give you something in return."

I said and waited for her to reply. But, I didn’t think she would be so eager to get something from me that she wouldn’t even wait and just extend her hand toward me.

"Giv..."

’That was kinda fast.’

I grabbed the wire from the table. Then, I examined it thoroughly. It was bent in many places and wasn’t straight. Yet, I hope it can do what I want it to do.

"Viora, it isn’t a real ring. It isn’t even really a ring. It is just scrap wire I saw laying there. But I am giving it to you because—"

Hmmm... What am I supposed to say? I am giving it to you because I like you? This is a ring we are talking about. Unlike other things there has to be a solid reason for me to give it to her.

Should I say it is for her protection? But it doesn’t seem believable enough. Then how about saying it is a proof of a promise that she won’t be alone ever again? Nah, that too doesn’t feel right.

"Jus... Gev... Me... Na... Speech..."

I was troubled with coming up with what I wanted to say when Viora told me to just give it to her without any big speech.

Well then, alright.

I grabbed her hand, turned it around gently and placed it on her small finger cause the wire was just too small for the other fingers. As it settled on her hand I decided to atleast say something after all it is her first time receiving something like this... Maybe?

Ahem.

Ahem.

After coughing two times and clearing my throat I began.

"I don’t have a diamond. I don’t even have a real ring yet," I said while keeping my grip on her hand. "But I have this. It’s a promise. A promise that I—"

"Pwease... No... Bore... Me..."

Those four words from Viora made the imagination that I had in my mind break completely and the kind of romantic mood which was visible instantly shattered too.

"W-what?!"

My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. Was I really boring her? But I haven’t even started yet. She should have atleast let me finish.

"I... Nu... Lik... Speych..."

She doesn’t like speeches? Then does that mean everything I told her about the sun and flowers was in vain? Don’t tell me she just listened to it with one ear and let it out from the other?

"I... Lyk... Ur... Vice... Jus... Lyk... Sun... N... Fower..."

Okay, so she was listening. Thank god. Because I don’t think I can say anything cool like that again anymore.

"Okay, I will skip the speech about the ring and all."

I said and gently placed her hand on the bed, then I let my hands rest on my legs. But even after the wire had settled on her finger the system still hadn’t responded.

’Looks like, I need a real ring for it to work.’

That is what I thought only until Viora hadn’t touched the wire ring with her other hand, and whispered one specific word.

"Nat... Petty... Bat... Like... It..."

Just when she caressed the ring and said she liked it, that was the very moment a sound rang in my mind and then a blue screen appeared in front of me.

Perhaps simply wearing it wasn’t enough. She had to accept it willingly. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Ding!

[Congratulations Host! The Last Condition has been met!]

First the system congratulated me and then the screen disappeared and a new screen appeared. Unlike the screen that appeared earlier, this one was completely red.

[Warning: Contracting the candidate ’Viora’ as Host’s ’Wife’.
